IC: Evan Tierra
At Symbio's crying out in pain, Gnip sprung into action, rushing towards her two foes. As soon as she drew close, The Garchomp spun around, lashing her tail out towards the Tyranitar's legs. She wasn't going to let Symbio have all the fun.
Evan looked at Shannon. "So, before we.......dragged you into our little sparring match, what were you up to, Shannon?"

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City "I, um . . ." Shannon kept her eyes on the battle as Tyranitar released his grip on Symbio and Crunched down on Gnip's tail instead. "I was just . . ." The Reuniclus used his moment of freedom to pummel both of his opponents with twin Dizzy Punches. "I mean, we were . . ."
"Battles can get pretty chaotic, especially when it's more than just one-on-one." Ellen walked around the battlefield towards Evan and Shannon with a knowing smile. She had finally relinquished her grip on Chrono, who slinked back to the sidelines to lick his paws in vexation. "But I think we can trust our Pokémon to fight on their own. Your Tyranitar may be a little rusty when it comes to battling, but you can tell he's been well trained. Besides, it's not like this is a life-or-death match."
Shannon stared at the young girl apprehensively. "You speak as if you've had a life-or-death battle before, yet you look barely older than Aori. Just who are you?"
The girl laughed lightly. "Ellen Burks. I'm just a girl from Village Bridge, in Unova. I may be young, but that doesn't stop me from trying to save the world -- or at least protect the people I care about. What about you? You must have been pretty close to Ryan Hikari for him to entrust you with his Tyranitar, but you don't seem to have much battle experience; not even causal trainer fights."
Shannon felt a tinge of color rise to her cheeks. "I don't like fighting," she said, finally tearing her eyes away from the battle. "I think it's crude and abhorrent. I get that it's necessary at times, but I'd rather let other, more experienced people, handle it." A knot formed in her stomach as she thought back to the incident at the general store. "Ryan thought differently, and so does Tyranitar. Earlier today, we witnessed a robbery. Tyranitar tried to stop it, but I held him back. Just like I've been holding him back from fighting." Shannon glanced back at the green lizard, who had wrapped his stubby arms around Gnip's tail and was trying to repeatedly kick her with his clawed feet. "We're just not cut from the same cloth, I guess."

-==IC: Lucia Zyther - Mess Hall, The Alamo==-
"Yeah... feels like years, but it's just been a couple months since we were all together, hasn't it?" Lucia said as she scratched the back of her head. She felt like there was a chill in the room as she realized she'd been dodging the question Skye asked for entirely too long to actually put it off for any longer. So with a deep breath, she began to explain all that what had happened in Kalos since she had left Four Island - feeling like she had been talking for over a month by the time she finished talking.
"... So... that's about what's happened with me... since that, I kinda just like... rested up and helped in different places, usually around here." She chose her words carefully, but a bite of her lip betrayed that there was something she was leaving unsaid there.
-==IC: ? ? ?/? ? ?/Jenny Hakuda - Park, Ecruteak City==-
"Hmm, is that so?" A voice called out from behind Shannon as three figures walked up to the group. "I only heard a bit of the conversation, but you say you've been holding your Tyranitar back?" The girl who spoke up asked as she looked to the sky with a pondering look. However, something about Shannon's appearance caught her attention, as she looked back down in surprise. "Wait, Shannon? How've you been doing lately?" The girl asked with a suddenly more comforting tone to her voice.
The blond behind her simply crossed their arms with an incredulous look. "You didn't recognize her at any point before you got here? I would've thought that you would have recognized her like halfway across the park if you knew her. ... Then again, you didn't recognize me back when we met in Goldenrod last time..."
"Hey, I said I was sorry, Corey! ... hey, that rhymed."
"Okay, okay, enough you two." The shorter girl behind the two of them said as she put her hand on her hip. "I didn't go grab you two just to have you two make up for lost bickering time." Jenny said with a raised eyebrow as the autumn breeze blew through her hair.
"... Yes, ma'am."
-==IC: Colleen Llyan==-
"Okay. This situation just got a lot worse than we ever thought..." Colleen thought as her eyes frantically scanned the surroundings - even if they managed to clear the immediate area, she figured that the ship had enough range to likely attack any part of the island it wanted. "Do we have any ideas of how to actually... do anything here?" Her eyes turned to everyone else - while she was fine with running or fighting, she had to admit that the fighting part might be a bit hard to do against an entire ship.
-==IC: Marie Homura - Ecruteak City, elsewhere==-
Marie took a deep breath as she focused on her Espeon. "Alright... Psychic!" She called out as the Espeon struck out at a wooden sign she had set up. It splintered upon being hit, but even as the wooden splinters clattered to the ground, the blonde didn't look any happier. She stared at her hand with a grimace. "What am I missing? Everyone else is getting better with this evolution stuff, but we're still stuck behind... At least I'm not behind Corey too, but still..." She mumbled out loud as she clenched her fist with a defeated look in her eyes.
With a sigh, she grabbed the Poké Ball that belonged to her Espeon and called the small purple cat back. She'd master this at some point - just not now apparently. With a glance around the area to make sure no-one was around, she pulled out her foreign Poké Gear and began to send a message to Corey to find out where they had gone off to.

IC - Skye Hall/Gavin Braner - Mess Hall, The Alamo:
"Sounds like Kalos was a stressful time," Skye said. "We've been pretty inactive around here--just doing what we can when we can. Got a feeling that's going to be changing soon." She couldn't help but hide a half-smile at Gavin. After a moment, she looked back at Lucia, tilting her head. "Hopefully I'm not being presumptive, but is there something else bothering you, Lucia? You told us about a lot, but you're still somehow being real quiet." She looked around. "Also Jamie's not here. That's unusual. Did she come back with you from Kalos?"
IC - Sonja Baron (Neith, Tanith)/Ethan Worth (Julia, Baya) - Beach, The Alamo:
It had been a long time since either had had a traditional battle, but Sonja and Ethan but knew the rules. They took up positions on opposite sides of the field, both clutching two Poké Balls in hand. The air blew gently around them, electrified with the energy of a friendly competition that neither intended to lose.
"You ready?" Ethan called.
"Ready as ever."
Ethan grinned. "Then on the count of three! One . . . two . . ."
Both lobbed their Poké Balls forward. In a dual flash of light from each, two Pokémon appeared. Neith the Noibat emerged onto Sonja's side of the field, flanked by Tanith the Tyrunt. Across from them, the smaller forms of Baya the Combee and Julia the Joltik appeared. Despite the size discrepancy between them and their opponents, the two Bug-Types did not look concerned. In fact the former buzzed her wings aggressively, and the latter sent webs of electricity through her fur in challenge. In response, Neith merely chirped, while Tanith growled threateningly.
"And off we go!" Ethan called. "Julia, strafe and use Thunder Wave! Baya, distract 'em with a Sweet Scent!"
"Neith, fly up and dodge! Tanith, charge and get that Combee with an Ice Fang!"
All of these Pokémon being . . . relatively inexperienced, the resulting chaos was quite a display. Tanith thundered across the field just as Baya began to release a sweet scent from her body. The move didn't seem to deter Tanith much, as she clamped her jaw shut where Baya had been, the Pokémon having moved backward in response. All of this movement, plus Neith elevating himself, meant that Julia's Thunder Wave did not take.
"Press on, Tanith!" Sonja called. "Neith, use Gust!"
Tanith lurched forward, her fangs glistening with frost. Baya's bravado seemed to melt as the dinosaur's jaws snapped toward her; she barely managed to roll to the side, avoiding anything more than a wisp of ice. Neith, meanwhile, flapped his wings rapidly, sending a burst of wind down at Julia.
"Ride that wind, Jules!" Ethan yelled. "Use it to your advantage!"
If the Joltik could verbally communicate her confusion, she would have. Nonetheless, she opted to follow Ethan's advice. The wind immediately sent her careening into the sky, spinning uncontrollably toward the ground. As she fought to comprehend the spinning world around her, she saw the flying form of Neith before her, and spat out an electrified web. The sticky substance hit her target, shocking Neith and allowing Julia to plant herself firmly on his back.
"That's what I'm talking about!" Ethan yelled. "Bring that bat down, Julia!"
"Neith, do a barrel roll!" Sonja responded.
Both acted at the same time. As Julia cycled through her move set, trying to figure out the best plan of attack, Neith dropped and spun. The Joltik clung on, catching Neith with a point-blank Electroweb that thoroughly shocked him and forced him out of his controlled spin and into a rapid spiral. As he desperately flapped his wings, he managed to correct their course just enough to slam into the head of Tanith, who had managed to catch Baya smack-dab in her jaws.
The four Pokémon launched sideways like a pile of rag dolls, none of them quite fainted (Tanith appearing the least dazed of all) yet all of them visibly disoriented from what had just occurred.
For their part, Ethan and Sonja could both only stare at the mess in silence.
". . ."
". . ."
". . . Best two out of three?"
". . . Alright."
IC - Kyle Eston/Esen Windred/Sam Moreno - Nursery, The Alamo:
The Nursery hadn't changed much from the last time Kyle had been here. Some of the Pokémon occupying the place were gone, presumably having been adopted by trainers--or, if already owned, had been rotated back into action. Others remained from the previous visit, though many of them were bigger now, having had several months to grow. As Kyle and Esen entered the observation deck, they found a girl there. She was young, no older than sixteen or seventeen, and wore an outfit consisting of black pants, a green shirt, and a purple bandanna that appeared to be hiding a head of green hair. A coat, the same color as her bandanna, was tied around her waist. She was hunched over a laptop and facing away from the environmental fields below. Esen led Kyle over to her; their approach seemed to catch the girl's attention, as she looked up from her computer.
"Hey, Sam."
"Esen." Sam smiled up at Esen and then looked at Kyle with a clear expression of doubt and distrust. She glanced back at Esen. "Who's this?"
"This is Kyle," Esen said, gesturing to him. "He's a friend."
"Kyle as in 'Mr. Kyle'?" Sam asked. She gave him a square look. "Nice to meet you, I guess."
"Er . . . You, too," he said. The frost between them was all but visible. "You can just call me Kyle."
"Sure." Sam turned her attention back to her computer. "And you can call me Sam. Just try telling Levi that whenever you see him."
There was an awkward silence between them all. At last, Kyle cleared his throat. "Aaalright," he said. "Yeah, I'm just gonna . . . go look for him."
"Should be somewhere down in the enviro fields," Sam said dismissively.
"I . . ." Kyle sighed, pressing the annoyance down. "Thanks, Sam." He gave Esen a look before turning and heading down the stairwell.
Esen watched him go and then took a seat across from Sam. Her expression shifted, a concerned frown crossing her lips. "Everything alright, kiddo? That's not usually like you."
"Maybe it is. You don't know me that well, Esen."
She took a deep breath. "I guess not," she said. "Still, it's not that hard to tell when someone's upset about something." Esen looked at her pointedly. "So, if you want to talk about it, I'm here. And if you don't, that's alright, too."
The rapid typing on Sam's keyboard ceased immediately. She chewed the inside of her cheek for a moment. "I'm worried about my mom." They sat in silence. "Just . . . She's out there, trying to fight that thing by herself, and I'm stuck here babysitting."
Esen rubbed her knuckles. "I can't really say that I relate," she said. "But I'm sure your mom is worried about you and your brother, too. And I'm sure that she feels better knowing that you're around to keep an eye on him."
"I guess." Sam rubbed her face with the back of her hand. "I just feel so useless here . . ."
"Well, just give it time," Esen said. "There are ways to help here. We just have to find them."
IC - Evac Team Heaven Sing (Executive Josiah Lorn, Jordan Robins, Gargi Sultana, Wilford Brannon)/Evac Team Royal Watch (Executive Jessica Ortrune, Jackson Sang, Dalila Pond, Pelle Byrne) - Rocket Research Facility, Cinnabar Island:
It was surreal to fly again, embarking on what felt like a repeat of the last mission Sang had undertaken. Seated in a helicopter, much like he had been on the way to Two Island, with Executive Ortrune and two members of her team, the four of them encased again in Power Suits loaned from Team Liberty. Across the way, four Liberty Agents--among them the Executive named Lorn--likewise equipped for this mission. Below, the waters of the ocean churning, blood red and glowing for miles, as the form of Missing Zero continued to expand endlessly beneath the waves. The circumstances were different now, in some ways--this was not a mission of urgency, thrown together in a desperate attempt to reach a civilian center before the creature and its Instances did; nor was this a team of inexperienced operators hoping to buy time against an enemy whom they knew nothing about.
No; this was careful, calculated. From Four Island, they flew to the mostly-abandoned island of Cinnabar. Expansion estimates for Missing Zero gave them roughly two days before the creature reached and ultimately engulfed the island, taking with it the carefully-guarded research facility that Team Rocket maintained there. Over the past week, they had already begun the process of relocation and evacuation, meaning there was little left to protect aside from the few researchers that remained and the advance guard that had been sent to hold off the Instances encroaching on the beach. The goal of Heaven Sing and Royal Watch, then, was to provide back-up to these remaining forces, allowing them to withdraw before the Power Suit operation teams finished the work of detonating the facility--leaving little but a barren rock in the middle of the ocean for Missing Zero to devour. Hopefully, that would provide it with at least a few fewer resources to repurpose.
Hopefully. As Sang and the others were fully aware, the ideal situation was hardly ever the likeliest to occur. One Island had proved that.
But then, there was the final difference between then and now: Pokémon were back to their full power. The bond between trainer and Pokémon had proven instrumental against Missing Zero in the past; with all Pokémon back to fighting form, they had regained an edge that they had sorely needed.
"Cinnabar's coming up," Lorn's voice crackled over their radio. "Prepare to deploy."
The members of Royal Watch pulled themselves to their feet, each mentally prepping themselves in their own way. Sang took a moment, pressing his knuckles into his palm; as they cracked, the edges of his form shifted slightly. The side door of the helicopter hissed open. With a nod from Ortrune, Pond hopped out, followed by Byrne. Sang lifted himself up and stepped out after them; it was about a six foot drop from the vehicle to the ground, but with the suit amplifying his abilities, he hardly felt the impact as he landed in the sand below. A few yards away, the second chopper had deployed Heaven Sing. Ortrune landed beside Sang, waving the helicopter off. First one, and then the other took off, heading to the position of their eventual evac site.
Burnt stone surrounded them in all directions but the east, from which they had just arrived. Sprawling magma from the eruption years ago had cooled down into uneven hills of stone, encroaching on the beach in many areas. It wasn't ideal terrain for a combat encounter of any kind, but that couldn't be helped. Somewhere to the north, in a sort of quarry that had been cut into the slag, lay the research facility; somewhere to the south, the sounds of battle rang in the distance as Team Rocket's defense forces continued their attempts to hold off Missing Zero.
"Alright," Ortrune said after a moment. "You all know the mission. First objective is to provide relief forces and allow the advance guard to finish evacuation of the Cinnabar Research Facility. Secondary objective once those evacuations have been completed will be to ensure the destruction of said facility. Third objective is our own evacuation. Royal Watch will provide primary offensive power while Heaven Sing focuses on supporting Royal Watch. Is that clear?"
A chorus of "Yes, ma'am!" and "Affirmative!" arose in response.
Ortrune nodded to the Liberty Executive. "Lorn, lay the path."
With a mental command to the T-15, two of the four disk-like nodes on the back of Lorn's suit detached. They hovered in the air for a moment with a low sound like a continuous vibration, before rapidly rising above the group and moving south. The lights on the eyes of the T-15's helmet flickered as Lorn synced with the drones, observing the land from above. After a few seconds, a map appeared on the HUD of each suit, displaying the route they could take to reach the skirmish site.
"Looks like Instance forces are minimal, for now," Lorn said. "Primary threats are Sinystal and Driprown, per usual. No major Instances to report yet, though."
"Check in every so often while we approach," Ortrune said, already moving down the designated path. "Last thing we want is to be caught off-guard. Sultana, keep on Lorn--if anything targets him, a diversion should buy us enough time to regroup and suppress the threat."
"Roger that."
"Tight formation, everyone. Let's go."

IC: Evan and Gnip
Gnip roared in pain at the dual assault she was being inflicted with, and unleashed an earth-shattering roar, sending out a shockwave to hopefully give her some breathing room from her two foes. As he watched, Evan was caught off guard by the newcomers. "Well, pump the brakes!" The man said happily. "Look who's here! I may have to make Gnip stop holding back if we get more of an audience!"

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows Shannon looked at the newcomers in surprise. She recognized Corey and Jenny, but the other girl -- the one who had called her by name -- seemed less familiar. "I'm fine," Shannon mumbled in response as she stared at the girl in question. "I'm sorry, but do I know you?"
Before the girl could respond, Ellen ran up and threw her arms around her. The newcomer attracted Symbio's attention as well, enough that he found himself completely blindsided by Gnip's shockwave. Tyranitar, likewise was thrown off the Garchomp's tail, but he only offered the trio of trainers a brief nod before jumping back into the fray, his clawed hand glowing with the dark energy of Payback.
"I missed you so much!" Heedless of the battle behind her, Ellen smiled up at the new girl and embraced her again. "It's so good to see you, Chloe!"
IC: Dack Majors/Jayron Aaron/Luke - Pier, Moro Island Harbor
"Colleen has a point," Dack said. "We can't hope to defeat all of them. Even if we somehow did, they'd just keep coming like they did on One Island. Our priority is to find Madison and get out of here."
"Easier said than done, man." Luke shook his head. "We've got fire behind us, and ahead we've got to fight the zombies, the witch, and the freaking wardrobe. Not to mention that monster ship. Mads can take care of herself; right now we should be worried about our own safety."
"We should be able to push through these few easily enough," Jayron said, his eyes trained on the fast approaching pair of twirling dresses. "Once we do, we need to make a run for it, get to a safer part of the harbor before more Instances come off the ship."
"Much more of this and there isn't gonna be a safer part of the harbor," Dack muttered as the ship flailed about in a frenzy. "Bastiodon, use Ancient Power! Blast them all out of our way!" The fossil Pokémon stomped her feet as she roared at the oncoming Instances. A handful of boulders rose from the waters on either side of the pier before hurdling themselves at the Missing Zero's army.
The dresses easily spun around the boulders, but the Walkorpse were less fortunate. Four of them became pinned under the massive rocks, leaving two zombies still staggering towards the group.
"Machoke!" Luke threw a Pokéball a split second before the dresses reached them. "That thing's gonna need stitches by the time you're through with it! DynamicPunch!" The fighting-type swung at the nearest dress with all his might.
The fabric folded at the impact, but the attack did about as much damage as a punch would do to a regular dress. The Instance cackled and waved its arms in a flowing motion. A sparkling Fairy Wind spewed from its sleeves, sending Machoke to one knee.
As the second dress engaged Colleen, Lucario directed Jayron's attention to the book-toting phantom floating above the nearby shops. That thing summoned the fire behind us, Lucario said. And the fire has not dwindled despite the heavy rain. I wonder if our escape might be made easier once that creature is taken care of.
"It's certainly worth a shot," Jayron said. "Looks like a ghost-type. You know what to do."
Lucario sprang up onto the roof of an adjacent shop. The moment he landed he extended a palm and shot a Dark Pulse at the hooded figure. The blast struck the phantom, which shuddered before extending a palm in kind. A yellow sigil appeared on the cover of the book and an instant later a Thunderbolt shot out from the phantom's palm. Lucario deftly slid down the slanted roof, which bore a blackened mark where he'd been standing just a moment ago.
IC: Madison Morrow - Comfey Gift Shop, Moro Island Harbor Madison whirled around to face the shopkeeper. "Is there a back door to this place? Somewhere we can all get out safely?"
The shop's owner, an elderly woman who looked like she'd seen quite enough action for one day, shook her head. "Don't you think we'd have tried that already? This is a humble little shop, dear, we only have the one door." She nodded to the entrance, where the snail-like Instances had pushed past Anzu's feeble defense.
"Then we'll just have to improvise." Ignoring the woman's protest, Madison grabbed a wooden stool from behind the register and hurled it at the nearest window, which exploded in a shower of glass. "Listen up, everyone!" the skier cried. "I'll hold them off as long as I can, while the rest of you climb out the window. These things are just going to keep coming, so you need to get as far away from the harbor as you can!"
Immediately the gift shop's occupants crowded around the broken window, all clamoring to escape. Madison could only bark an order for them to stop acting like a bunch of six-year-olds before she was forced to turn her attention back to the oncoming trash snails.
"Anzu, Ominous Wind! We just need to focus on slowing them down!" The Froslass raised her arms as an eerie breeze wafted through the shop. The snails slowed their progression in the face of the headwind, but as soon as Anzu let up they continued their advance. Anzu quickly summoned another wind, but it was clear she couldn't keep this up.
Seeking to help her Pokémon out, Madison grabbed a surfboard off the wall and swung it with all her might at the nearest snail. The Instance was flung against the wall, leaving a trail of gooey sludge as it slid to the floor. Invigorated by her success -- and wishing she had more practice with golf -- Madison swung her weapon at another snail.
The joint attacks seemed to be working, but while Madison and Anzu focused on the snails already inside the shop, even more started to pour in through the unguarded door. By the time everyone else had made it out the window, the entire front half of the shop was swarming with the Instances.
"Good work, Anzu!" Madison cried as she batted away one last snail. "Give them one more Ominous Wind, then let's get out of here!"
As Madison scrambled through the window, she saw the last of the former occupants running toward the mainland. A torrential rain fell from the dark clouds, soaking her to the skin. Madison took a deep breath, then made her way in the opposite direction, towards the massive boat that seemed to be thrashing about in the water.
Her thoughts shifted to Dack and Luke and what trouble they might be facing. She never suspected she'd run into a horde of zombies herself.
IC: Ryan Sanders - Timburr Pub, Moro Island Harbor "Samurott." Ryan's hands were shaking as he pulled out a Pokéball. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the man covered in Pollucant sludge. The man he had mistakenly attacked. "See if you can wash away that grime. Be gentle." While Togie and Quil fought to keep the remaining Pollucant out of the pub's newly-formed entrance, Samurott doused the unfortunate man in a spray of water.
Washing away the sludge only made the man's burns more apparent. While he was still conscious, the attacks had left him weak. The woman next to him gingerly helped him to his feet, and Ryan saw the man holding back a wince.
"You need to get him to a hospital or Pokémon Center," Ryan told the woman. "His body may have absorbed some of that sludge. And . . . he should also get treated for those burns."
"Burns which you so rudely inflicted on him!" the woman shot back. "You hit him with a Flamethrower at point blank range! Just what were you thinking?!"
Ryan held the woman's furious glare. "I'm truly sorry," he said. "But what he needs now is immediate medical attention. I can hold off those snails, but you need to get out of here."
The woman looked ready to argue, but a Sludge Bomb from one of the Pollucant sailed over Quil's shoulder and spattered across the ground at her feet. Putting an arm around the burned man's shoulder, she made her way out of the pub as quickly as she dared.
Pushing the man's predicament from his mind, Ryan turned to face the sea of snails. "Alright, Samurott," he called out. "Push them back out to the ocean! Aqua Tail!" Samurott spun around, sending a wave of water at her opponents. One or two of the Pollucant managed to cling to the docks, but most of them were carried back out into the sea from which they came. Quil and Togie picked off the stragglers, making extra sure they really were Pollucant and not more grime-covered victims.
Ryan made his way back out into the storm, letting his feet wander as his Pokémon followed behind him. He couldn't get the Pollucant victim's pained expression out of his mind. He had tried to help, tried to be a hero, but in acting rashly he had only succeeded in making things worse.
Before he could delve too deeply into self-doubt, a familiar scream caught his attention. He turned around to see Madison being assaulted by three haggard, almost skeletal zombies. Her Froslass was fighting ferociously, darting back and forth between the three Walkorpse to keep them each at bay.
"Hey!" Ryan called out as Quil's fur bristled. As one the Walkorpse turned toward him. For a moment they simply stared through dull, lifeless eyes. Then their faces contorted into what almost looked like an expression of rage. Abandoning their former targets, the zombies moved toward Ryan with frightening speed.
They were on top of him in an instant. Quil, still in his Mega Evolved form, managed to clip two of the Walkorpse with a Flamethrower. The third found itself impaled on Samurott's seamitar seconds before it would have tackled Ryan. What would have been a fatal wound to any normal living creature, the zombie shrugged off without so much as a twinge of annoyance.
Samurott lost her grip as the Walkorpse lunged at Ryan once more, the seamitar protruding mockingly out of its chest. He could feel the Instance's cold, clammy breath on his face, and it was all he could do to fight back his terror as he grabbed the hilt and twisted it. But the undead warrior refused to die.
A series of Ice Shards pelted the zombie's face. Anzu flew up and proceeded to pummel the Walkorpse with a Wake-Up Slap. That gave Togie an opening to swoop down and grab the Walkorpse with his talons. The seamitar slid out of the zombie as Togie took his opponent into the sky. When his flailing passenger proved to be too unruly, the Togekiss simply dumped the Walkorpse into the ocean.
"Are you alright, Ryan?" Madison ran up to him as Anzu helped Quil finish off the other two Walkorpse.
It took Ryan a moment to catch his breath. "I . . . I'll be fine." He looked over at the skier. "Dack's looking for you."
"I know," Madison said. "I was trying to find him when those zombie things jumped me. Luke said he's up near that ship. The one that keeps flailing around like a Magikarp on land."
Ryan stared at the massive ship -- which looked very un-ship-like in its movements -- and took a deep breath. "Well, we'd best not keep him waiting. Whatever that thing is, he could probably use our help."
They had taken no more than a dozen paces when an achingly familiar voice rang out. Ryan stopped in his tracks. Amidst the crowd of civilians struggling to escape the harbor, a lone woman was fighting her way toward him. Light brown hair fell to her shoulders and the lines that creased her face betrayed both her age and her worry. Even over the roar of battle he could hear her calling out his name.
"Ryan? What are you doing?" Madison had noticed he was no longer following her, and now looked back in concern.
At last Ryan found his voice. He spoke softly, barely above a whisper. His eyes did not deceive him. Just when he'd been about to give up, he had finally found her.
"Mom?"

IC - ?:
The location didn't matter. The orange-haired one was here. In the rafters above, effortless, a humanoid figure appeared from the shadows--as if sliding out of them and into existence from another plane entirely. For now, undetected, it observed the Rocket Agent. Across from it, an identical figure appeared. It, too, looked down, and then at its fellow. A radio crackled in the second's ear.
"T̴̺̀Ä̶̜́R̷̠̐G̸̼̐E̶̗͗T̷͑ͅ ̴͈̆Ã̷͙Č̶͔Q̴̥̏U̷̾͜I̴̺̕Ṟ̴̔E̶͓̽D̵͙͆"
The first figure dropped down, gauntlets crackling with energy.
IC - ? - Mess Hall, The Alamo:
From their perch high above the rest of the hall, in the thickened pockets of shadow that seemed to coalesce around them, the pair of figures observed. There were crowds here. Unfortunate. Largely disarmed, however. Occupied. Laughing. Eating. Reading. Talking. In a booth, three individuals--two girls, one boy. The girls--one pale, the other darker-skinned.
"T̴̺̀Ä̶̜́R̷̠̐G̸̼̐E̶̗͗T̷͑ͅ ̴͈̆Ã̷͙Č̶͔Q̴̥̏U̷̾͜I̴̺̕Ṟ̴̔E̶͓̽D̵͙͆"
A doorway of shadow appeared on the wall near one of the figures. It gripped the rafters tight, dropping and twisting into the portal, where it vanished from sight. The other dropped from its rafter, gripping tight and swinging its body until it could propel itself forward, taking an acrobatic leap to catch the thick cord supporting a light fixture below. It slid down, raising a hand toward the table . . .
IC - ? - Park, Ecruteak City:
A bright park was not ideal for this sort of operation. But this was theirs to accomplish, and so they would. The figures observed from a distance, cloaked in the shadows of a cluster of trees. It was not ideal. But with the darkness clinging to their forms, it would suffice. They peered upon the group, weighing the Pokémon, the men, the women, the child . . .

A few moments passed. Before long, additional tears opened, and two more figures wearing identical armor materialized. A series of electronic vocalizations transmitted between them; then, as one, the four melted back into the darkness. Across the park, a chill breeze seemed to brew . . .
IC - Kyle Eston/Esen Windred/Levi Alaric/Sam Moreno/Will Moreno/? - Nursery, The Alamo:
The nursery was a peaceful place. The Pokémon that occupied it could be rowdy, true, particularly the younger ones. But overall, it was peaceful. The combination of outdoor fixtures--the trees, a river, lake, even some caves--with the controlled environment of it effectively being a massive greenhouse made it easy to lie back and clear one's head, with little to no worry of danger. That said, it was still a rather big place, so finding a pair of kids here was like searching for a needle in a--
"So it's not something I can do?"
"Probably not."
Kyle turned and headed in the direction of the voices. They weren't much further down the path, and as he rounded the corner, he did indeed find them. Levi he recognized instantly--the boy's pale skin, black hair, and pale blue eyes were so closely reminiscent of his father that it would be impossible to mistake him for anyone else. So, too, was Levi's Phantump, with its icy eyes as blue as his trainer's. The other boy Kyle did not recognize, but he could tell just from a look that this was definitely Sam's brother, ergo Joker's son. His hair was short and the same color as his mother's. Like Levi, he was dressed in clothes that could only be described as simultaneously casual and formal--befitting the nature of their surroundings, as well as reflecting his upbringing. Presently, he held his hands in front of him, concentrating on a rock that levitated above his palms. A Mime Jr. situated on his head mimicked the action, stifling giggles the entire time.
"Mom says this kind of thing usually runs in families--I don't think it's something just anyone can pick up," the boy said. Noticing Levi's disappointed frown, he offered a smile. "Hey, you never know--some people develop other powers when they get older, like Aura. You could end up with something cool like that."
Levi perked up. "You really think so?"
"For sure!" the other boy said. "And even if you don't get like really strong Aura, there's other stuff, too. Dad used to tell me that some people found ways to become all kinds of things--psychics, Aura wielders, people chosen by Legendary Pokémon to wield their powers, werekind, vampires--"
"Vampires?" Levi frowned again. "Now you're just making stuff up."
The rock faltered in the boy's hands. "What? No! They're real, Levi, all of that stuff is!"
Kyle walked forward. "I can't speak for the vampires or were-Pokémon, but I can tell you guys there's a lot of stuff out there."
This time the rock fell right to the floor as the boy jumped in surprise. Levi's eyes lit up as his Phantump flew out of his arms, hiding behind him. "M-Mr. Kyle!" Levi scrambled to his feet. He seemed caught between his excitement, embarrassment, nervousness, and trying to maintain whatever lessons in stoicism his father had tried to instill in him. "Y-you're back!"
The other boy looked between Kyle and Levi with momentary confusion, which soon dissolved into cool understanding. "Ooh, so that's you," he said to Kyle. He approached and held out a hand. "Wilson Moreno. You can call me Will. I've heard a lot about you."
Kyle shook Will's hand. "Yeah, sounds like my name is making the rounds," he said. "It's nice to meet you, Will."
With a tilt of his head, the smile on Will's face faltered. After a moment, he withdrew his hand. "I take it you met Sam."
"Er . . . yeah. How'd you know that?"
Will smirked slightly. "You're put off by the differences between us." He diverted his gaze and rubbed the back of his head. "We're, uh . . . All of us are kind of going through the same thing right now, so it's a little rough. Don't worry, though--she's a little closed-off, but she's usually nicer. It's just bad timing right now."
"Well, I can definitely understand that . . ." Kyle said. He glanced at Levi. "How've things been aside from that?"
"I-It's been okay," Levi said. The Phantump had skirted back into his arms, and Levi was hugging him close to his chest. The Stump Pokémon's head covered the lower half of Levi's face--perhaps intentionally to help hide his nerves. "I-I miss home, but um . . . I like it here . . ."
Will nodded. "I've been wanting to explore the island a bit more than we've been allowed to, but aside from that, I can't complain."
"Oh yeah?" Kyle said. "Well, hey, maybe I can show you guys around from now on--I've lived here a long time, so I know all of the cool places."
Levi tilted his head. "A-Aren't you going on more missions?"
"Well . . ." Kyle rubbed the back of his head. "Not anytime soon."
He perked up again. "So we get to hang out with you until then?"
Kyle felt his face flush in embarrassment. "Yeah, I guess so."
It was difficult not to chuckle as Levi turned to Will, virtually buzzing with excitement. For his part, Joker's son had taken on a curious expression, which was duplicated on his Mime Jr.'s face. "Speaking of missions, you were in Kalos back in August, right?"
"I was." Kyle lowered himself, taking a seat on the ground. He could already tell where this was going. "You guys wanna hear about it?"
With zero hesitation, the two boys jumped forward with a "Yes!", taking a seat in front of Kyle as he leaned back and began to recount (a heavily censored version of) what he, Chloe, Ray, Sonja, Ryan, and General Coleman had experienced after leaving Four Island those months ago . . .
The two figures observed from the shadows of the trees, blended into the scenery around them. The three boys did not notice--they were busy talking and laughing. A touching reunion. Convenient distraction. One of the figures turned its attention to the observation deck, where the girls remained locked in their own conversation. It turned its attention forward again, back to the boys.

IC - John Ford/Madison Hayes/? - VIP Cell Block, The Alamo:
Two cells. Two occupants. One sat comfortably in an armchair, his eyes scanning carefully down the page of the book in his hands. The other lay in her bed, eyes closed--either asleep or very nearly so.
Both felt the sensation of someone watching them from the doorway at the same time. They turned, looking there. Nothing. Yet the sensation persisted.
Through the silence, both made out the vague, electronically-distorted words that whispered over some sort of headset.

-==IC: Ray Hakuda -- ?==- The location didn't matter. Ray's eyes shot up as he spotted the figure drop down in front of him with energy sparking and crackling around their gauntlets. He had a sneaking suspicion that they weren't there to help him with his project - so immediately dropped into a defensive pose as his hand reached for Zangetsu's Poké Ball quickly. "Who are you?" Ray asked in an attempt to buy a little more time before the inevitable fight began. -==IC: Chloe Hikari/Jenny Hakuda/Corey Bouchard -- Park, Ecruteak City==- Chloe grinned as she looked at Ellen, her longer hair blowing under her old newsy cap. "It's good to see you again too, Ellen!" She said happily, glad that the young girl seemed to be in much better spirits than the last time they'd seen each other. The woman then looked up to Shannon, finally able to respond to her. "I'm Chloe - we met once before, but it was pretty chaotic, and well, I've kinda changed my wardrobe a lot since then." Jenny watched on with a grin, as she placed her hand on her hip idly. Corey had been about to comment, but a raised eyebrow shut them up pretty quickly. "I see Gnip and Symbio are having a lot of fun, Tyranitar too!" Chloe glanced over curiously. "Symbio?" She looked down at Ellen with a grin. "Oooh, Duo got a new name when he evolved? Very cool!" She was about to open her mouth again to say something else, but faltered as she glanced back behind them with a frown. "Allie, did you feel that?""Hmm... I felt something, but couldn't pinpoint anything. You've been practicing your sensing, haven't you?""Of course! We need to be ready at any time, for anything.""And what about...?"Chloe stayed quiet both mentally and verbally as she simply watched the open field where she had sensed something. -==IC: Lucia Zyther -- Mess Hall, The Alamo==- Lucia took a breath as she tried to answer Skye's question. Although she knew she'd need to talk about it at some point, she'd been hoping that she could use the same excuse she had with Gavin - but Skye's pointed questions made it pretty obvious that the absence of the girl usually stuck to her hip was very out of the ordinary. "No... She, well, she went to Ch-" Lucia paused for a few moments as she thought she heard the sound of clanging in the rafters above. "... Is that normal for the roof to sound like that?" Lucia asked, suddenly very wary - though it was likely a Pokémon, she had this odd feeling that if it was one, they would be falling right in her food. And if it wasn't... Her hand went to her Poké Ball slowly as she looked up to the roof.
-==IC: Colleen Llyan -- Docks, Moro Island==-
Colleen grit her teeth for a brief moment - she had hoped that it might be a bit simpler, but the reaction that Luke's attack had showed that wasn't going to happen. She quickly grabbed the Poké Ball for Kamé, and tossed it into the sky. The Blastoise appeared just in time to use a Protect to guard her trainer from harm's way - right as a Fairy Wind washed over the barrier that surrounded the two of them.
"Alright, let's do this!" Colleen held her hand forward with a desperate look in her eyes; even though the damaging part of the attack was being blocked, the wind itself certainly hadn't. It added a dramatic-looking effect to things as her hair flapped in the wind while a rainbow shell of light surrounded the Blastoise. After a few moments, the shell shattered alongside the Protective barrier as the now-Mega Blastoise shot forward. Colleen thought over what had happened, then nodded.
"Okay, Kammy, use Water Pulse, now! That thing seems to be using Fairy Wind too much to not be a Fairy type, so we can't use Dragon Pulse, okay?" The Blastoise roared out in affirmation as she charged up her cannons and fired off a powerful pulse of water at the dress they were fighting.

The Plasma agent inwardly kicked himself for not recalling the girl's identity and focused. "Ah, so that's your new look, Chloe?" Evan said, grinning as he focused on the three battling Pokémon. He would have continued speaking, if he hadn't noticed that some of the group's shadows seemed darker. The Hero of Space felt a chill in the air, and focused, ready to give Gnip the order to attack if this wasn't a trick of his senses.

IC - ?/? - Attacking Ray Hakuda:The figure did not respond to Ray. From where it had dropped down, it remained briefly--very briefly--in a crouching position. Ray got a clear view of its clearly humanoid form, the dark armor hued slightly with blue over a pitch-black cloth-like material that brought to mind Team Liberty's Power Suits. The major difference was that, where the Power Suits each had individualized helmets that masked the wearer's face, this figure's face was faintly--faintly--visible through the full, largely-opaque face plate. Its expression was blank as it lunged from its crouch, the energy spreading from its gauntlets to the rest of its body as it attempted to tackle Ray to the ground. Above, the second figure--its armor identical, but with a purple hue to it--watched and waited. S5-NEMESIS: Shadow Blitz > Ray S2-PHANTOM: Stand-byIC - ?/?/Gavin Braner/Skye Hall - Mess Hall, The Alamo:At Lucia's words, Gavin and Skye both turned their attention upward as well. "DUCK!" The three dived out of the way as a blast of shadowy energy slammed into the table in front of them, sending food, plastic, wood, and all other manner of shrapnel flying in every direction. The hall around them fell silent for a brief moment as first the nearest onlookers froze, followed by the rest, before mess hall erupted into chaos as people scrambled for safety. From their position on the floor, Gavin and Skye pulled themselves to their feet. Their attacker chose that moment to drop down, landing heavily on the tiled floor. It was some sort of person wearing armor--Skye and Lucia recognized the type of outfit immediately. The light above glinted off of the metal plates, highlighting the slight reddish hue present in it. It straightened up, arms hanging limply at its sides as it evaluated its two targets. "What the hell is that thing?" Gavin growled. Skye shook her head. "I don't know, but it's not friendly." The figure's head shifted slightly toward the pair. With surprising agility, it burst into a run toward them, bringing a hand forward. The attack met the form of a Dusknoir as Dothe appeared on the field, grappling with the opponent--and clearly straining against it. Around them, a cage of darkness suddenly appeared. It blocked off the exits as well as cut off the group from the surrounding onlookers. Above them, the source clung to the wall like a massive spider--another of the figures, this one with armor pitch black even in the light. S3-GHOUL: Shadow Rush > Gavin/Skye Dothe: Block > S3-GHOUL S1-GEIST: Shadow Hold > Gavin/Skye/LuciaIC - ?/?/?/? - Park, Ecruteak City:It all happened so fast. Four shadows deepened in color--that of Evan, Jenny, Shannon, and Ellen. The next instant, as if propelled by springs, four figures burst from the darkness and into the air. They spun like acrobatics in a coordinated demonstration of physical ability, landing each a short distance away from the group. The figures spared only a brief moment to straighten up, pausing to stare at the group they had surrounded, before running forward. One, its armor glinting with a slight green color, rolled toward the group and threw its hands forward, unleashing a chilling cloud of shadow on them. A second, this one red, drew its arms back and aimed a shadow-gloved punch toward Gnip's midsection. A third, purple, skirted away a few feet, throwing its hands up and summoning a cage of darkness around the field. The fourth, this one vaguely yellowish in color, fired off rolling, wave-like shadows at Tyranitar and Symbio. No hesitation. No explanation. IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City Shannon screamed as the figures bounded out of the shadows and attacked. Ellen stood shoulder to shoulder with Chloe, an intense and determined look on her face. She didn't even need to voice a command. At her mere thought, Symbio knew to float upward out of the way of the shadow attack.
Alright, who invited the Shadow Power Rangers? Symbio would have continued to float higher into the sky, but a sudden cage of darkness prevented him from gaining any further altitude. Don't they know it's rude to hit first and ask questions later? Pointing both his arms at the yellow soldier, the Reuniclus extended his Telekinesis to attempt to hold their assailant in place.
Tyranitar, meanwhile, took the shadow wave head on. The lizard roared in annoyance, then looked to Shannon for a command. The blonde-haired girl cowered in fear, her face paling as her eyes darted from one silent attacker to the next. With a huff of annoyance, Tyranitar decided to take things into his own hands -- or rather, jaws -- and charged toward the yellow assailant to Crunch down on the figure's midsection.

Evan snapped his fingers and a barrier was erected in front of himself, shattering upon taking the attack. "Tch, I don't think they really care, Symbio!" The man said, thinking of his next move. "But if they are so inclined to attack us trainers, then they'd best know I'm -not- gonna hold back! Gnip, it's time! Let's show these punks just how much of a mistake they've made!"
Gnip took the punch to her gut, growling at her assailant as she leapt away from them and close to her master. "All right, girl, just as we practiced, all right?" Evan said, smiling at the Mach Pokémon. Evan then spun and struck three dynamic poses as quickly as he could, as a blinding rainbow light encased Gnip in a glowing cocoon. As suddenly as it appeared, the cocoon shattered, revealing Gnip in a far more fearsome form. "Dragon Claw on the one who attacked you!" The Plasma Agent commanded. The beast roared at her target, and swiftly slashed out with her left blade.

Ray narrowed his eyes as he leaped diagonally back and to the right. As he landed, he tossed Zangetsu's Poké Ball forward, sending out the Zangoose to try and strike the assailant from behind with an X-Scissor. What troubled him, however, was that attack his foe used was not one that he recognized, even with the possibility of this being an attack altered for use by some kind of replica power suit.
He gripped the object he held in his hand tighter, feeling that the time was almost ready to use it. Yet, at the same time, he wasn't sure exactly how well this would work.

"Does that armour look familiar to you, Skye...?" Lucia asked as she fumbled for her Poké Balls. The attacks called to mind the Dark attacks they were used to, yet it felt ghostly at the same time - something that seemed to be backed up by Dothe struggling against it. She couldn't recognize anything, but quickly tried to make a decision. Finally, she grabbed the Poké Ball that contained her Clawitzer and sent her out.
"Clara, use Dragon Pulse on our attacker!" The Rocket called out, feeling that was the only option she could use without risking something not working. She inwardly considered getting a Ghost type in the future to make the decision easier. The Clawitzer gave a yip of acknowledgement and fired off a pulse of dragon-y energy at the unknown opponent, aiming to strike the person without hitting Dothe at all.
-==IC: Chloe Hikari/Jenny Hakuda/Corey Bouchard - Park, Ecruteak City==-
Chloe threw Allie's Poké Ball out as soon as the assailants appeared and the Gallade immediately took up a defensive stance in front of Chloe. Allie looked back to her trainer with a frown.
"Are you sure about this? You've only succeeded that one time--" The Gallade started to say, but was cut off with a nod from Chloe.
"If I don't keep trying, then what will happen when we need the power the most? And this is looking like that kind of situation!" Chloe's face ended any complaints from her Pokémon. Corey stepped beside Ellen and Chloe with their Doublade drawn, the two swords gleaming with purple energy that radiated around in the artificial darkness the barrier had drawn over the makeshift arena.
Jenny, on the other hand, sent out her Scizor quickly and glanced to Evan. "Now, let's do it!" She called to Evan, even as she held out her hand and focused on Scizlite, memories of other intense battles flowing through both of them. Without any other warnings, Scizlite was enveloped in a casing of rainbow light that resembled a circular cocoon. With a snap of Jenny's fingers, the shell broken into many fragments that dissolved into powdery energy like diamond dust. The Scizor that appeared wasted no time in moving to aid Gnip, as she rushed forward, arm pulled back with the energy of a Bullet Punch wrapped around it.
Chloe watched the proceedings, as she took a deep breath. "Everyone, cover me for a little bit! I'm going to try something that I've only... only succeeded in once before. But we might need the power here, so trust in me!" She broadcast her thoughts to her friends nearby as she thrust her hand into the air, palm up, and concentrated. Nothing seemed to happen, even as Chloe closed her eyes in concentration, Allie nearby to make sure that the girl wasn't attacked while defenseless like this.

IC: James Arthur/Percival - VIP Cell
James was typing on his repurposed computer when the power cut out, ruining his progress and some carefully hidden work. He would have been frustrated at that, if not for the loud tearing sound he heard outside of his cell. Morbid curiosity made him look out the door. Two armored figures broke down the doors to the cells containing John Ford and Madison Hayes. Armor that looked both disturbingly familiar to what he had helped create. But the armor was wrong in a way that James couldn’t quite place.
The information raced in James’s head, as he had little time to determine a course of action. Ford was still the most valuable source of information on M0. As far as James knew, Team Liberty still hadn’t figured out a way to beat M0. Until they did, James couldn’t allow anything to happen to Ford. He’d have to take the gamble to his personal well-being, in order to win the long game.
James could feel Percival’s invisible presence floating right by him. Percival was ready.
“Percival. Protect John Ford.”
With over a month of practice behind him, moving between the confines of the cell had become child’s play for the Chandelure. Its body came into visibility on the other side of the cell in an explosion of flame and rainbow light. A ring of fire span around Percival, before launching towards the figure on James’s left. At the same time, shadows emanated from Percival’s own shadow, trailing along in the dark rapidly towards the other figure. If there was going to be evidence of a struggle, James was going to make sure he was not taking the fall alone.

OOC: Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Rise of the Rockets! It's been a long road, and so much has happened both in the game and in real life. Both us and our characters have grown so much over the past ten years, and it's incredible to see just how far we've come. A decade ago I never could have imagined this would be the result of a popular yet fledgling roleplay. I can't wait to see what the future brings for all of us.
IC: Dack Majors (Bastiodon)/Jayron Aaron (Lucario)/Luke (Machoke)/Missing Zero Army (Walkorpse (x2)/Preduress (x2)/Psyclopedia) - Pier, Moro Island Harbor "Fairy-Type?" Luke glanced from Colleen to the dress his Machoke was fighting. "Of course it is. Machoke, we need a change of tactics! Fire Punch and make sure Cinderella here doesn't make it to the ball!"
Machoke gave his trainer a confused look at the forced analogy but nevertheless clenched his fist. As he punched out at the dress a second time, his hand became enveloped in a blazing fire. This time the dress staggered back, its toothy grin flipped into a disturbing frown. Flames licked at the fabric, the attack weakened only slightly by the heavy rain, and the Instance's eerie hum rose to a shriek. Flailing sleeves whipped at Machoke in what could only be described as a Play Rough, never once loosing rhythm. Machoke desperately grabbed at the sleeve-whips but his hands only clenched empty air.
The second dress fared about as well. Kammy's Water Pulse put it through the ringer, and, sopping wet, it responded with a shriek. Instead of flailing around like its twin, this dress twirled around. The flower pattern on its dress created a swirl of colors that almost seemed to leap off the fabric. It was no illusion, as Colleen quickly saw. Flower petals swirled around the dancing dress, and as the Instance side-stepped, sleeves pointed straight at Kammy, the Petal Dance blew toward the Mega Blastoise in a sudden whirlwind.
As this went on, Dack eyed the two Walkorpse still approaching. "Let's take care of the leftovers," he said, leaping stride his Pokémon. "Heavy Slam!" Bastiodon pawed at the ground before charging toward the two remaining zombies. One was knocked clean into the water, but the other held onto the charging dinosaur with surprising tenacity for an undead. The creature opened its sinewy mouth and chomped down on Bastiodon's hide.
Jayron narrowed his eyes at the book-toting Instance. "Were we wrong about its typing?" he called to Lucario.
It's hard to say, the Aura Pokémon responded, closing his eyes in concentration. That thing doesn't show much in the way of pain. Another well placed Dark Pulse should give us our answer. Lucario raised a palm and fired another shadowy blast.
As if in response, the hooded Instance raised a hand toward Lucario. A different sigil appeared on its tome, this one blue. The next instant a Water Pulse shot out of the figure's hand. Although Lucario leapt out of the way, the attack struck the Dark Pulse, dissolving the attack in midair.
"The thing puts up a good strategy," Jayron said, biting his lip. "We'll just have to come up with something it can't counter."

IC: Ryan Sanders/Madison Morrow/Rebecca Sanders - Moro Island Harbor The din of battle seemed to fade around him. Ryan stared across the crowd at the woman who had raised him, the person he'd been looking for this entire time. His mother. Scarcely aware that he had started moving, Ryan ran toward her. She ran toward him.
As they embraced, tearful memories welled up in Ryan's eyes. It had seemed like so long ago that his parents had been arrested by Team Rocket, forcing a young Ryan to go on the run. That single event had spurred Ryan to join Team Liberty, where he had learned so much and made countless friends. Yet in this moment, he longed to be home. He yearned for those carefree days when the war was just something he heard about on the news. Where his dreams were filled with exploring the forest around Fortree, not with giant blobs and evil clowns.
His mother's arms held him close, as if she refused to let go of her son now that she'd found him again. "Ryan." Her voice shook with emotion. "You've grown so much."
"You found your mom?" Madison had finally caught up with them, a smile crossing her face as she caught her breath.
Madison's words snapped Ryan back to reality. "Our friends still need our help," Ryan told his mom. "I need you to find someplace safe and wait for us. Togie can fly you back to our hotel."
"Wait!" As Ryan turned to go, his mother caught his arm.
Ryan looked back with a pained expression. "Our reunion can wait, but right now I'm needed elsewhere. I'm not the scared little kid I was anymore, mom. You don't have to worry about me. Look at Quil, he's gotten so much stronger since you last saw him." At his side, the Mega Typhlosion grinned sheepishly.
The woman turned her eyes on Quil for a second, a curious expression on her face, before looking back at Ryan. "It's about your father." Ryan felt his breath catch in his throat. His mother hastily explained what had happened. "We were by the water when those . . . those things attacked us. We ran into the boat house to try and escape but they cornered us. Your father told me to save myself."
Ryan paled. "Is he . . . ?"
"He was doing his best to hold them off," his mother continued. "If we hurry, we might be able to save him!"
Ryan wanted to ask his mom to show him where the boat house was. The question was ready to burst from his lips. But then he turned around to face the skier standing behind him. "Madison . . ."
"It's okay," the girl said with a soft smile. "Dack can take care of himself. Let's go help your dad."
Ryan's mother led the way across the harbor, with Ryan, Madison, Quil, Samurott, Togie, and Anzu following close behind. Ryan feared they'd come across more Instances along the way, but as if by some miracle the path was free from Missing Zero's minions.
The boat house in question stood at the end of the harbor, a flat wooden building that looked a sorry state of disrepair. Faded paint on the side of the building had started to crumble away, and in several spots the lapping water had rotted away the wood. Once inside, the sounds of battle seemed far away. Two concrete struts ran against the walls of the structure, from which jutted several wooden docks. The pelting rain on the tin roof echoed deafeningly. The droning sound pressed in all around Ryan, suffocating him, and as he pressed onward he half expected to see his father's mangled body lying around any corner.
His mom ran to the end of a particularly rickety dock, calling her husband's name. Ryan raced after her. The moment he reached the end of the platform two Driprown burst out of the stagnant water. The serpents arced their long necks over the dock, eyeing Ryan and his mother like a shark eyeing its next meal.
Pulling his mother away from the water's edge, Ryan turned to retreat. He froze as a handful of Pollucant oozed onto the platform. The explosive trash snails almost seemed to smirk as they planted themselves between Ryan and the others. Already their corrosive bodies were starting to eat way at the wood.
Madison shrieked as five Walkorpse dropped from the rafters, grappling with the skier and their assorted Pokémon. "Ryan!" Madison called out even as a zombie forced her to the ground. "Behind you! It's a trap!"
Ryan whirled around just in time to see his mom lunge toward him. He jumped back and his mother's hands closed around empty air. "Mom?!" he cried in disbelief. "What are you doing?"
"That's not your mom!" Madison screamed. "She's one of them!"
Before Ryan's eyes, his mother's form seemed to shimmer. Suddenly a little girl stood in her place. Although Ryan had never seen her before, she looked eerily similar to Dack's description of Miyu, the illusory form Missing Zero had taken in Vermilion. "Well done, Madison!" the girl said in a cheerful voice that made her all the more frightening. "It's a shame you didn't realize it sooner. Oh, well!" The girl shrugged her shoulders and shimmered again, returning to the form of Ryan's mother. Her smile was sickly sweet. "Time to die, honey."

IC - S5-NEMESIS/S2-PHANTOM - Ray Hakuda's Location:
The NEMESIS Unit fell forward as Ray jumped out of the way. With inhuman finesse, it tucked itself into a roll and almost immediately righted itself, spinning around and blocking Zangetsu's attack with a kick. The two stood in a deadlock for a moment, unseen eyes matching the intensity of the Zangoose's glare. It was a sight to behold--something clearly human yet not, engaged in a physical match that, under normal circumstances, would have at least strained the fighter's form. This foe did not strain. It held the lock with ease, its power at least matching that of its opponent.
In the brief silence of the battle, a voice--clearly female--rung out from the figure, distorted by whatever transmitter lay embedded in its helmet. "I̸n̷i̸t̶i̸a̸t̷i̶n̵g̷ ̸R̵I̷V̷A̶L̵ ̵M̶o̴d̷u̸l̵e̵.̵"
A sound like whirring machinery hummed from the figure. Immediately, it began to press down, very quickly--and easily--gaining ground on Zangetsu. Its armored boot glowed with darkness as it brought the attack down on the Zangoose.
Above the field, the other figure slipped back into the shadows. A second later, a spectral figure rose silently from the floor behind Ray. Once it had solidified, it reached forward with both hands, attempting to catch Ray by surprise.

IC - S3-GHOUL/S1-GEIST/Gavin Braner (Dothe)/Skye Hall - Mess Hall, The Alamo:
There wasn't much time to react to Clara's attack. The draconic energy slammed into the figure's back; while it buckled slightly in response, it was clear that the attack hadn't damaged it as much as any of the three would have hoped. Still, it was enough for Dothe to push the person back, creating some distance between it and the trio. Behind them, they heard a similarly loud thud as the black-armored figure dropped from the wall, flanking them. Gavin and Dothe turned to face the second figure as Lucia and Clara focused on the first, Gavin pushing Skye behind himself.
In the momentary pause, Skye was able to get a better look at their attackers. "Y-You're right," she said. "Th-They're almost . . . exactly the same."
"The same as what?" Gavin asked.
"T-The Power Suits," Skye said. "Lucia a-and I both used one on O-One Island. These things look . . . but there's something off about them."
Gavin didn't know the first thing about the Power Suits, but he couldn't help but agree with Skye on that examination: These figures stood almost limp, arms dangling at their sides loosely, body weight positioned largely as if they were not putting in much work to keep themselves standing. Their movements were quick, seamless, yet almost puppet-like. That, combined with the eerie sight of foggy facial features just barely discernible beyond their face shields, lent the figures an almost zombie-esque air about them.
"Well, it doesn't matter," Gavin said. "One way or another, these things are going down. Dothe, let's get to it!"
The Dusknoir nodded. He folded his arms across his chest and slipped downward, disappearing into the floor. Only a second later, he reappeared fist-first from below the GEIST Unit. Electricity crackled around the phantom's knuckles as he swung at the armored figure. To his surprise, his opponent almost immediately rolled backward, avoiding the attack with ease. As Dothe fully materialized, it kicked forward and slammed into him with one of its shins. Dark energy coalesced around the figure and around Dothe; the next second, Dothe was sent flying backward, far more injured from the hit than he rightfully should have been.
"Dothe!" Gavin moved to step forward, but the Dusknoir was already getting back up. He breathed heavily, bringing his fists up and analyzing his opponent as he weighed the best option. Across the field, the GEIST did much the same.
Behind them, the red-armored figure craned its neck slightly, peering closely at Lucia and Clara. In the blink of an eye, it took off, strafing to the left. As it ran, it raised a hand and aimed, firing off a rapid series of pinpoint, electricfied shadow bursts at the Clawitzer and her trainer.

IC - S6-PREDATOR/S4-SLAVE/S3-GHOUL/S2-PHANTOM - Park, Ecruteak City:
In a rapid set of minutes, the PREDATOR Unit found itself momentarily stuck in place, forced to watch instead of evade as a Tyranitar bore down on it. The figure found itself caught in the Armor Pokémon's jaws, hoisted off the ground and jerked about like a chew toy. For its part, the entity did not seem very concerned about this development--truth be told, while the attack had clearly caught it off-guard, its armor appeared to be doing a fine job of protecting the fleshy person beneath. Black, inky mist began to emanate from its hands as it placed its palms on Tyranitar's head, pouring the darkness straight into the Dark-Type.
"E̷n̷g̷a̵g̵i̵n̵g̶ ̵B̷A̴N̶E̴ ̴M̵o̸d̶u̵l̴e̶.̴" The distorted voice of a man rung out as Gnip and Scizlite swung at the GHOUL Unit. It planted itself firm, hands raised halfway in front of it as it faced the oncoming attacks.
The resulting impact sent a shock-wave across the field, throwing up grass and dirt all around the three.
As the cloud dispersed in the wind, a stunning--and somewhat horrifying--sight revealed itself. The GHOUL Unit stood, looking hardly the worse for wear save for the black wisps that drifted off of its body like trails of smoke. In one hand, it had caught Gnip's blade against its palm. In the other, it had blocked Scizlite's Bullet Punch. With one, massive heave, it pushed both back, the two Pokémon spinning to face it a few paces away. The GHOUL Unit looked between them, slowly clenching and unclenching its fists. On closer inspection, it was clear that the attacks had done some sort of damage to its arms, but that damage did not appear to be impeding it in the least.
With monstrous power, it kicked forward, slamming its hands into the ground. Spikes of rock imbued with darkness erupted around it, stabbing outwards toward the two Mega Pokémon.
With its attack blocked, the SLAVE Unit retreated, regrouping near the PHANTOM Unit. As The PREDATOR and GHOUL engaged in direct combat, the remaining two observed the field. The PHANTOM Unit cocked its head, a feminine voice sounding from it. "A̸w̵a̴i̸t̶i̸n̵g̸ ̴d̴i̶r̵e̷c̸t̴i̸v̷e̷.̵"
"S̷e̸c̴u̶r̷e̵ ̷t̴h̴e̴ ̸g̶i̴r̶l̴.̷" A male voice, equally distorted.
The PHANTOM nodded. "A̷f̵f̶i̷r̷m̷a̷t̷i̸v̵e̶.̸ ̶E̷n̸g̵a̷g̵i̷n̴g̶ ̶P̷H̶A̷S̷E̴ ̶M̶o̵d̶u̵l̸e̴.̸" Its body began to turn translucent, incorporeal; a moment later, it had vanished beneath the ground.
The SLAVE Unit waited until she was gone before charging forward. With effortless agility, it slipped between combatants, appearing as if from thin air in front of Corey. While it did not move to attack, it did lock eyes with them. A strange pattern appeared on the suit's face-plate, one that seemed to slip and squirm into the deepest recesses of Corey's brain--a sudden, powerful attempt to bring the trainer under the SLAVE Unit's control.

IC - S4-SLAVE/S1-GEIST/John Ford/Madison Hayes - VIP Cell Block, The Alamo:
Before John Ford stood a figure that he could not find the words to describe. It stood tall, a lean, gaunt entity clad in armor that was barely perceptible against the surrounding darkness of the hallway. He hardly hard time to snap his book shut and jump to his feet before the hallway lit up in an explosion of light. This drew the intruder's attention; the next instant, it swiveled into Ford's cell, followed closely by a twisting rope of that would have otherwise curled around it. The figure appeared less concerned by the attacker and more interested in turning back to Ford. It observed him briefly. In the darkness, a heavily distorted male voice uttered something--"S̴u̴b̶d̸u̷i̶n̴g̵ ̷t̵a̷r̸g̴e̴t̶.̷"
A sharp hiss sounded as . . . something happened. Ford couldn't see what--with no lights, he was effectively blind. Before long, however, that began to change--even in the dark, he could feel the beginning of the world spinning around him. He stepped back, covering his nose and mouth as best as he could. He didn't know how far this stuff might spread, how quickly it might overwhelm him, but one thing was certain as his hands fumbled against the bookshelf behind him: Whatever this thing was, they needed to be dealt with--fast.
S1-GEIST: Shadow Panic > Ford Ford: Searching bookshelves
Next door, a similar situation was unfolding. From her position in bed, Hayes could not see what was happening in the hallway. Aside from a brief flash of light that cast a long shadow in the main area of her room, she was surrounded by darkness. In most situations, she would have immediately flung herself into combat. However, this was not a situation that she felt she could win. These cells were designed to counter psychic abilities; as such, her main weapon was nullified. However, if she could change her surroundings . . .
She remained still. The figure entered without incident. It scanned her room, turning and approaching her. When she did not react, it leaned forward. Even in the darkness, through half-closed eyelids, she could make out the reflective visor peering at her. It straightened up after a moment. A female voice sounded from the darkness above Hayes. "T̶a̶r̸g̵e̵t̵ ̵s̴e̴c̷u̸r̴e̸.̵ ̴R̴e̷t̵u̵r̷n̵i̵n̶g̴ ̸t̶o̵ ̴b̷a̴s̴e̴.̵"
The entity picked her up. Hayes remained limp as she was flung over the intruder's shoulder, fireman-style. It moved easily through the darkened room, away from the bed, past the desk and sofa, into the hallway. Outside, it held a hand forward. Nothing happened. It cocked its head, trying again. All the while, barb-like shadows cling to it, preventing its escape.
Hayes gave it one more second before her eyes shot open, glowing with psychic power. Caught completely by surprise, the figure could not defend itself from being launched straight into the ceiling. The sudden motion forced it to drop Hayes. From her position on the floor, she rolled over, bringing her hands down to slam it into the ground, and then launched the figure down the hallway. It came to a stop several yards down, its armor grinding against the metal underneath it.
Hayes rose to her feet, brushing off her clothes. "Did you really think abducting me would be that easy?"
The figure did not respond. Instead, it rolled back onto its feet. With easy, loose motions, it dipped forward, charging toward its quarry.

-==IC: Ray Hakuda -- ?==- The Zangoose's eyes widened as he was flung away from the attacker with far more force than he had expected - even from a possible Power Suit. As Zangetsu was mid-flight, Ray barely picked out the telltale sound of footsteps behind him. He barely had time to move to the right before the newcomer attempted to put him into a hug that he was pretty sure wasn't going to end well at all. "I don't know who you all are, but I'm not just going to let you do whatever it is you want without a fight." Ray said as he grabbed a Poké Ball off his belt and threw it forward. His Bisharp appeared in a flash of white light and took a defensive stance in front of Ray for the moment, as Zangetsu skidded to a halt to Ray's right. The young man cursed his recent lack of training as he considered his options otherwise - most of his Pokémon were strong, but pretty far behind these two. He placed the card he was holding in his right hand back into his pocket, then drew a second from his back pocket. I'd hoped to actually test this out -before- a battle like this, but here we are... Ray looked at the card in his hand, nervous at what might happen. He closed his eyes with a quick deep breath, then they shot open as he ripped it in two. Immediately, two things happened. First, a rainbow shell enveloped Zangetsu, as they had been practicing in the time since they returned from Kalos - shattering to reveal the "Mega" Zangoose that then shot toward his original target. His claws glowed with a dark red hue, dully lighting up the surroundings of the warehouse as he prepared to strike at the first opponent. Secondly, two magical circles appeared above the area that the four combatants were in - barely missing Ray himself. Within a second of their appearance, the circles gave way to falling icicles that fell upon the battlefield - aiming to pierce everyone with the ice shards who were within the radius of either circle. Byakuya and Zangetsu struggled as they attempted to keep their opponents occupied and inside of the zone, the Bisharp in particular using a Slash on the newcomer to the fight. Lucia mumbled to herself, as she kept an eye on the original foe. Clara attempted to fire off a rapid set of Aura Spheres to dissipate the lightning shots as they approached - especially the ones headed toward Lucia herself. However, some got past the Clawitzer's shots, pelting the Pokémon with bolts that damaged her heavily. As Lucia braced herself for the remaining bolts to hit her too, however, her Blissey appeared suddenly to take the attacks. When the dust settled, Blissaga looked more damaged than she should have for what type they seemed to be, though still looked ready to fight. "Alright... we need a better plan..." Lucia took a deep breath, then put her hand forward. "Blissaga, use Heal Pulse on Dothe; Clara, use Dragon Pulse again, we need to keep them on the ropes!" The two Pokémon nodded as they got to work. The Blissey sent off a healing pulse of energy toward the Dusknoir as Clara moved in between the energy and her foe to keep the first opponent from stepping in front of the energy to take it for themself. As this was going on, Lucia struggled to think of what could have caused the discrepancy in damage, but could only draw a blank. OOC: Clara: Dragon Pulse > S3-GHOUL Blissaga: Heal Pulse > Dothe -==IC: Chloe Hikari/Corey Bouchard -- Park, Ecruteak City==- Corey froze as the SLAVE Unit stepped in front of them suddenly. They could make no attempt to fight back or avoid whatever was being done. Corey's arms went limp for a few moments as they turned their head toward Chloe. A sword was raised as they looked with blank eyes toward the girl who was so focused on whatever it was that she couldn't pay attention to the trainer approaching her. The sword was brought down. *SHING* Allie stepped in between Corey and Chloe, an intense look on her face as the Gallade blocked the Doublade's strike with her whipsword. She struggled more, not having expected the strength of the trainer to be that strong. As Allie looked closely, she noticed that the Doublade had deactivated their powers too - not wanting to hurt their trainer's companions. None of this made sense to the Gallade, who quickly summoned a second sword as Corey swung their own dual blade toward the Gallade as well. "Corey?!" Chloe exclaimed in surprise as the sound of steel hitting energy caught her attention. Her old friend never answered, instead opting to continue to try to attack her Gallade. She bit her lip and sent out her Lucario in response with her free hand, left hand still held skyward as she split her focus long enough. "Luke, attack that person near Corey!" The Lucario nodded and shot forward with a Bullet Punch aimed at the SLAVE Unit. Try as she might, her focus seemed to have been completely broken. Whatever energy she thought she had seen circling her hand briefly seemed to have disappeared when her focus was shattered by Allie and Corey's battle. Chloe dropped her hand to her side and clenched her fists as anger bubbled up inside her chest; she couldn't figure out what these people were attacking for, but it was obvious that they had done something to her friend. She turned her head to the ground and closed her eyes with a frustrated look on her face. I need help... I need to do something... I need power...-- Lacunosa Town, one month earlier-- "None of this is helping at all!" Chloe said in frustration as she threw the book she was reading onto her hotel bed. She sat at a nearby desk, adjusting herself on the donut pillow she was sitting on. On the desk were a multitude of books both about the legends of Kyurem and of the dragons of the Two Heroes - but so far, none had mentioned anything about how they were summoned... or anything about the way she had summoned Kyurem in Lumiose City. With a groan of annoyance, she laid her head on her arms, then looked up to the inert stone that sat nearby. Despite having reappeared during the fight, and Kyurem vanishing into light that surrounded it, it had remained inactive ever since. Whatever secrets that Kyurem wanted her to know, they weren't about to make it easy.
With a sigh, she grabbed another book.
"Chloe, don't you think that you've done enough reading today? You need to have time to get rest too." Chloe looked up to see a worried-looking Olivia standing near the entrance to the door. "It hasn't been long since--"
"I'm fine." Chloe said with a more frustrated tone to her voice than she intended. She winced at the tone she used, then looked back to the stack of books. "I just... why isn't there anything at all? All these books, and not a hint about what I'm looking for."
"It takes time; you know that." Olivia sighed as she walked up to the desk and looked at the books. "Plus, wasn't it like over 500 years ago, if not longer, that the dragons were all split apart? From what I remember hearing, no-one even knew about Kyurem's connection until like 19, 20 years ago."
"I know... but there's gotta be something, right?"
"Hmm..." Olivia picked up one of the books toward the bottom, a curious look on her face, as she began to read through. "This is... this is talking about the 'Complete Dragon'... though they don't have a name, they have some drawings, and..." Her eyes widened as she continued to read. "Wait, look at this!" She turned the book around and held it out to Chloe. The psychic looked curiously, but her eyes widened as she saw two pictures that looked almost exactly like White Kyurem and Black Kyurem.
"What... how is this possible?" Chloe asked as she looked up. Olivia looked just as unsure, but turned the book around to flip through a couple more pages.
"This says that the legends are that these are the forms taken when the Complete Dragon was summoned without a balance of 'energy', whatever that means. Maybe it was a flawed way of drawing the Original Dragon there, sorta like however the three split apart in the first place?"
"Maybe..." Chloe thought for a moment, then stood up and peeked over Olivia's shoulder. As the younger girl flipped through the pages, Chloe pointed at one image. "Wait, that almost looks like a summoning ritual of sorts. I've never seen anything like it before, but..."
"Well," Olivia grinned. "Let's give it a try... tomorrow.--- The next day, the two stood in the forest outside the city. Despite it still being near the end of summer, it was already starting to feel chilly in the town. Chloe didn't let it both her, as she stood in the middle of the clearing, far enough away from Olivia to not get her caught in anything in case something went wrong. She didn't know if it could, given how the last successful try went, but... it was better to be safe than sorry.
"Alright... here goes nothing..." Chloe took out the stone that should house Kyurem, focused, and then held it above her head while pouring as much focus as she could into it - trying to activate things like she would her psychic powers or the evolutions that her Pokémon could do. At first, nothing happened. Then, a brilliant cyan light flashed from the stone, as a ring of light surrounded it. And then, as suddenly as it appeared, the light vanished along with the stone.
"What... just happened?" Chloe asked, dumbfounded, as she stared at where the stone had been.
"I... don't know." Olivia said, as she ran over to Chloe. "How do you feel?"
"Not really any different, but... maybe Kyurem took a nap in my aura like last time...?"
"Hopefully." Olivia seemed worried, but gave a reassuring smile to her girlfriend. "You'll just have to keep practicing, right?"
"I guess..." Chloe frowned as she looked at her hand again, then sighed. The two began to walk back to the hotel, but Chloe suddenly stopped as she frowned, one of the phrases echoing in her mind. "A balance of energy..."---- Chloe looked up with determination. I won't give up anymore. Kyurem, help me! She held her hand skyward once more, feeling a jolt of some kind of charged energy flow through her as she did. A ring of cyan light appeared above her hand, as a grey orb began to form. The light siphoned out of the orb, before forming into a floating icy orb that quickly formed into the shape of Kyurem's base form. As that happened, both Kyurem and Allie were surrounded by a shell of rainbow light as Chloe held the God Stone forward. "Mega Evolve!" The girl shouted out as the shells shattered to reveal the new forms of both Allie and Kyurem. Chloe froze as a chill went down her spine as she saw the form that Kyurem had taken this time. It was like a demon from her past had returned to haunt her - despite the fact that she knew they were on her side this time. Her breath caught in her throat as she stared up at the form of Black Kyurem, her mind blank as she struggled to try and think of some way to actually make use of the power she had been struggling to borrow. But all she knew was one attack right now. Against her better judgement, and with a shaky hand and even shakier voice, she pointed at the PREDATOR Unit that was trying to attack Tyranitar. "Fusion Bolt."

IC: Evan Tierra
The man saw his current foe withstand not just one, but two powerful attacks from two very powerful Pokémon, and responded with an equally powerful attack. Gnip wasn't exactly worse for wear, but it definitely looked like it hurt. He then noticed there was some vestigial damage done. While it wasn't enough to hinder them, Evan knew that meant they could still be hurt. "I've never met a wall I couldn't break with my best Pokémon! Gnip, use.."
Evan was about to shout out a command to Gnip, but then he saw something he'd thought struck down down in the past. A beast that beat out even Gnip's vicious current form. Black. Kyurem. Evan thought as he beheld the creature that ultimately killed him the first time. He recalled everything he had to deal with, especially after the Ancient Darkrai were dealt with. All the therapy, all the procedures to deal with the fact that, yes, he in fact died and came back.
But, now is definitely not the time to unpack all of that. Maybe after this.
Evan focused himself once more, and saw Gnip eying the newcomer very warily. "Nevermind them, girl." The Hero said, his eyes glowing pinkish. "If these...people want to play dirty, then I guess we'll do so in kind! Iron Head!"
The Garchomp focused her eyes on her foe, and rushed ahead, aiming to headbutt her foe. However, as she got halfway to her target, she heard Evan's fingers snap, as a portal opened beneath her, revealing another above that very same target. As Gnip fell through the portal, she focused power to her head, aiming for the arm she struck with her scythe before.

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City From up in the air, Symbio stifled a gasp. Um, Ellen? Is that . . . ?
Ellen froze as she caught sight of the Pokémon Chloe had summoned. While she hadn't been one to fight the Pokémon herself, she had witnessed the battle on the newscast. It hadn't even been a full year since the time she had watched helplessly as Black Kyurem desecrated the southeastern region of Unova. And now that destructive monster was here, in Ecruteak. Even Chloe seemed to be having second thoughts.
At the redhead's command, an orb of shimmering blue lightning enveloped Black Kyurem and shot toward the enemy in Tyranitar's jaws. The attack struck, sending both Tyranitar and his chew toy flying back. The green lizard hit the side of the shadow-cage and lay there, stunned.
Ellen cast her eyes about the battlefield. One of the shadow suits was locked in battle with Gnip and Scizlite. Another seemed to have done something to Chloe's friend, and was now being assaulted by Luke. Tyranitar's enemy had been hit by the Fusion Bolt -- but where was the fourth?
She didn't let the thought worry her too much. Artemis, Isabella, and Fiora stood off to the side, in a corner of the shadow-cage. Ellen ran over to her Pokémon, scooping up the smaller ones in her arms. "Artemis, help Luke," she ordered. "Symbio, you too. We can't afford to take any chances with these guys."
The Mienshao bounded forward and shot an Aura Sphere at the lone unit. At the same time, from his vantage point Symbio reached out with his mind and applied a Psyshock to the same silent attacker.
Meanwhile, unbidden, Chrono leapt into action as well. The Purrloin darted after Tyranitar's former enemy, following after the unit with Pursuit.
As Ellen's Pokémon attacked, Tyranitar picked himself up and stumbled forward. His body ached and his head spun. Strange people in suits darted the battlefield, but his eyes settled on a larger monster. In a confused rage, the lizard let out a roar and loosed a Hyper Beam at the dragon that had dared attack him.

IC: James Arthur/Percival - VIP Block
Percival’s options were limited. As a bodyguard to James he worked well, but trying to attack someone in a closed space while not harming someone behind them was not his forte. His Ghost attacks were his best offensive option in this case. Hex had the lowest chance of hitting Ford if their opponent moved in just the wrong way. Disadvantage to Hex was its lower power. But something Percival had been working on might be a solution to that.
“Percival, Will-o-Wisp.”
Tongues of flame gathered from Percival’s legs. They gathered together into a slow moving orb of flame. It bobbed back and forth in a zig-zagged pattern on its way to its target. The speed and movement patterns were chosen so that even if their opponent dodged, Percival could prevent it from hitting Ford.
But even if the armored opponent tried to dodge the ghost flame, it would hopefully be distracted from attacking Ford at the least. In the meantime, Percival’s shadowy web grew, seeking to ensnare his current opponent as well.
James surveyed both battles going on. These abilities. He had a sinking feeling when he tried to figure out which types these Power Suits were. He needed the fight to go on a bit longer to confirm what they were.
He turned towards Hayes for a moment. Without a second member of his team present nor a weapon in hand, James had no way to assist Hayes as long as Percival was fighting his present opponent.
Apologies to Ms. Baron, but Hayes would have to survive on her own until Ford was safe.

IC - S5-NEMESIS/S2-PHANTOM - Ray Hakuda's Location:
The purple-hued opponent kicked back to dodge Byakuya's Slash attack. It was elegant to behold, the man almost weightless in his movements. Trapped as he was in a localized ice storm, however, he found himself pelted rapidly by cold shards that slammed down from above, knocking him prone. The figure moved its arms to cover its front against the assault; a second later, it became transparent and incorporeal, sinking to safety underground.
As ice fell around it, the NEMESIS Unit threw her arms up to defend against Zangetsu's attack. The Mega-empowered attack tore through her partially-frozen armor, sending her sliding back several steps along the icy ground. Blood dripped from an open claw mark in her forearm, though she did not seem to acknowledge--or even notice--the injury. Instead, pushing herself back out of the circle of ice, she waved her arms in a flowing, controlled motion around her. She threw her hand forward, joining her attack with the ice storm in a Shadow Chill attack that aimed to freeze her opponents.

IC - S3-GHOUL/S1-GEIST/Gavin Braner (Dothe)/Skye Hall - Mess Hall, The Alamo:
The GHOUL Unit had dipped inward and begun charging straight toward Lucia and Clara just as the Clawitzer launched her Dragon Pulse. The attack caught the GHOUL dead-on, sending it flying backwards to slam into the wall of shadow surrounding them all. As it recovered, it craned its head upward, cracking its neck. A heavy whirring noise begun to emit from its suit as a deep, distorted voice growled out, "E̷n̷g̷a̵g̵i̵n̵g̶ ̵B̷A̴N̶E̴ ̴M̵o̸d̶u̵l̴e̶.̴" The next instant, it had run forward again, aiming a greatly-enhanced Shadow Break attack against the Clawitzer.
Dothe nodded his thanks to Blissaga as his energy levels rose again, restored by her Heal Pulse. He hovered between the GEIST and Gavin, his intentions clear: The assailant would have to do more than that if it intended to get to his trainer and Skye.
The GEIST Unit appeared to understand the challenge. And it very clearly meant to ignore it. From its standing position, it suddenly kicked off, appearing above Dothe in the blink of an eye. The world around it seemed to slow to a crawl as Gavin and Skye watched it come toward them, all but ignoring the Ghost-Type save for the hand it planted on his head for leverage. Its eyes were focused on the pair of them--past Gavin, in fact, and to the girl behind him. As shadow poured into its palm, straight through Dothe, energy coalecsed around its leg, forming into an attack that it aimed to lay down on the two defenseless humans before it.
Gavin shifted, putting himself in front of Skye as the attack bore down on him.
From beneath the GEIST, Dothe glowed with power.
A shell of rainbow light erupted around the Ghost-Type as he sensed the great danger against his trainer. It exploded outward, with force enough to throw the GEIST spinning through the air over the two trainers' heads. But it came to a stop as Dothe spun around, taking a firm hold of its leg. His form had lengthened, slimming out into a more human-like form; the mouth-like marking on his stomach had opened, revealing a reddish-black void wherein a glowing, red orb glowed at his core. His hood-like head had transformed, revealing a bony jaw beneath a red and yellow eye, and tan frills the same color as his hands had formed a sort of collar around his head.
Dothe had transformed into some sort of Grim Reaper. And he looked pissed.
With Mega-enhanced strength, the Ghost-Type swung the GEIST back toward him, slamming the armored unit against the ground. Before it could recover, he raised both fists, bringing them down on the GEIST's chest in a dual-Ice Punch attack that formed a thick, heavy dome of ice around its body, planting his opponent firmly to the ground. The threat taken care of for now, Dothe whipped back to check on his trainer.
"Dothe!" Gavin said, barely managing to speak through his surprise. "You . . . You Mega Evolved!" The Ghost-Type blinked in surprise, taking a moment to look at his transformed arms and hands before grinning. A moment later, a large crack sounded from behind him--the GEIST was breaking free.
Gavin looked back to the figure. "Right--no time to celebrate right now," he said. "Let's finish this and then help out Lucia."

IC - S6-PREDATOR/S4-SLAVE/S3-GHOUL/S2-PHANTOM - Park, Ecruteak City:
The S-Series could certainly tank solid hits from most opponents--Mega Pokémon, perhaps even Legendary Pokémon, included. But a Mega Legendary Pokémon was something else entirely. The Fusion Bolt slammed into the PREDATOR unit, and the Tyranitar holding it by extension. Though the now-confused Armor Pokémon had absorbed some of the attack, the PREDATOR had not gotten away unharmed. The figure was sent skipping across the ground for several yards, rolling to a stop. It visibly struggled to push itself up; when it managed to do so, it was clear that parts of its armor, primarily the joints of its knees, had frozen solid. Lightning leaped across parts of the armor, and its opaque visor was severely cracked.
The PREDATOR Unit stumbled to its feet. Immediately after, it stumbled from the force of Chrono slamming into it from behind. Despite the severe damage from Kyurem, it did not appear all that impeded by the Dark-Type. With slightly-stilted movements, it managed to grab a hold of Chrono, tossing the cat into the air in front of it with one hand and using the other to loose a Shadow Fire attack at him.
The SLAVE Unit would have smiled if it could, as it completed its somersault having successfully enthralled Corey. As it spun back toward the action, however, it immediately found itself under attack from a Lucario; it brought its hands up, dampening some of the force of the impact as it skidded backward. Its eyes darted to the side and it raised an arm to block part of Artemis's attack, the Aura Sphere shattering into minute shards of raw energy against the armor of its forearm. With Luke the nearest target, the SLAVE unit ducked forward, spun, and threw a hand forward, using Shadow Rave to send spikes of darkened earth in a cascading attack against the Lucario. Even as it did so, it felt an overwhelming sensation of pain as a psychic field rippled through its body. It staggered, though managed to catch and right itself a moment later.
As Gnip charged towards the GHOUL Unit, it readied itself for her impact against him. Feet planted firmly, hands held aloft, its armor still emitting that strange sound like overclocked machinery--it was ready. In the blink of an eye, however, the raging Garchomp had vanished from in front of him, her attack coming instead from above. The figure threw an arm up to defend himself, to little avail: The empowered Iron Head attack impacted the GHOUL's damaged gauntlet, powering through and slamming straight into his head. The sheer weight of the attack launched the figure against the ground in a cloud of dust, Gnip's foot planted firmly on his back.
If it were any normal figure, that would have been a killing blow. But the GHOUL persisted. It ignored the massive dent in its helmet--one that dug deep into the interior of the suit, such that the helmet's visor was horribly cracked and caked with streaks of blood from the inside--and used its massive, surprising strength to twist around, throwing Gnip off-balance. The figure threw its hands up, aiming a point-blank Shadow Chill at Gnip from beneath her.
In the confusion of the PREDATOR, SLAVE, and GHOUL's actions, with assistance from Corey and Tyranitar as well as Kyurem's appearance, the fourth unit had gone unnoticed. Much like its namesake, the PHANTOM rose, invisible, from the ground. She materialized directly behind Ellen, silently reaching forward and attempting to pull the young girl into a grapple amidst the chaos.

IC - S4-SLAVE/S1-GEIST/John Ford/Madison Hayes - VIP Cell Block, The Alamo:
The black-armored figure spun to face Percival as the Mega Chandelure emerged into Ford's cell. This gave Ford the opening he needed. Quickly, he spun toward the shelf, using the light from the Will-O-Wisp to find what he was looking for. He grabbed the book, holding it close as he ducked and moved along the outskirts of the room, toward the half of the cell housing the lavatory and sleeping quarters. As soon as he had found some cover, he opened the book, searching through it.
The GEIST, meanwhile, moved to avoid the Will-O-Wisp. As it did, the Shadow Tag tendrils took hold, providing enough of a distraction that it failed to avoid the globe of flame. Ghoulish burns covered its armor and the flesh underneath, slowly searing the human operating the suit. It shook its head, pushing past this pain, and leaped in the direction of Ford. Just as it did, the man pulled something from the book in his hands--a slip of paper, which he immediately ripped in two. A bubble of energy appeared around him, temporarily cutting off his assailant from coming any nearer. It stood, silent, its hands pressed against the field and its gaze drifting blankly across Ford's face. Then it turned back to Percival, opening its hands wide and unleashing a Shadow Panic toward the Mega Pokémon.

Even in the darkness, Hayes could see well enough to read the SLAVE Unit's movements. She stepped to the side, dodging the initial hit, and raised a hand to deflect the follow-up. Her eyes flashed with psychic power as she made contact with the individual; immediately, she jammed her knee forward, hitting a spot between the armor plating in the SLAVE's midsection. She spun around her opponent, helping them along with a psychic push.
"A shame," she said. "If there was anything worth getting from you, I might've let you go as thanks for getting me out of that cell. But you're as broken as they come, so I guess there's no point in even trying." She threw a hand forward, taking hold of the figure's form. Then, she crushed, pressing in on the armor and body as hard as she could. The figure loosed a surprised yelp, but continued to struggle. Hayes frowned, surprised at the figure's durability. A moment later, the SLAVE Unit managed to jerk an arm forward; Hayes was forced to drop her attack as spikes of darkness erupted from the walls around her, catching her in the arm and leg . . .

IC - S6-PREDATOR/S5-NEMESIS/Kyle Eston/Esen Windred/Levi Alaric/Sam Moreno/Will Moreno - Nursery, The Alamo:
"So there we were in Prism Tower, surrounded by dozens of Flare members, when--"
Leif and Mime Jr. were the first to react to the interruption. As Kyle spoke, the two suddenly straightened up, eliciting chirps of distress. The three boys had just enough time to turn in the direction the Pokémon were pointing: A figure wearing blue-hued armor had appeared in the trees nearby. As they watched, a second one--this one's armor closer to brown--materialized as well. As soon as they had been spotted, the first figure dropped, throwing a hand forward and hurling several bolts of shadowy electricity in their direction. Levi yelped in surprise, scrambling back at the same time that Will sort of . . . froze, staring wide-eyed at their assailants. Kyle yanked a Poké Ball from his belt, releasing Kitheus; the Magnezone rotated, using his body to shield the three from the attack. Despite the electric nature of the attack, the bolts seemed to do just as much harm to the Electric-Type as a Ground-Type attack would--it was clear that Kitheus had not taken the hit lightly.
"Are you two alright?" Kyle called to Levi and Will. The two boys nodded, shaking in fear and surprise at the sudden attack. "Stay behind Kitheus!" He rolled around the side of the Magnezone, tossing out Jaeda's Poké Ball. The Charizard materialized before him, roaring in anger at the two armored figures. "Jaeda, Flamethrower!"
Jaeda reeled her head back and then threw it forward, opening her mouth wide. A jet of fire hurled forward. As it rained down on the figures, they darted out of the way, moving in different directions. The NEMESIS Unit's body hummed with power as it dived expertly between positions, foiling Jaeda's attempts to land a solid head. As it closed in, the figure slammed into her with an aura of shadow, pushing her through several tree trunks and dragging her away from her trainer.
"Jaeda!" Kyle yelled, moving to follow. He immediately caught himself and turned back toward the boys and Kitheus.
The second figure leaped to and fro, mimicking its companion. As it landed on the Magnezone's back, it focused on Levi and Will, eyes flashing for a brief moment. A second later, Kitheus unleashed a Discharge attack that seemed to catch it by surprise. He spun on the spot, sending the stunned figure rolling across the ground. It recovered, pushing itself up and eyeing the field. It was hard to tell where it was looking, but its eyes seemed to dart briefly between Kitheus and Levi, then back to Kitheus, briefly to Kyle, and then--
It looked back at Kyle, as if surprised to see him. That moment of hesitation was brief, but Kyle could feel whatever the figure had felt, too--a strange sense of familiarity, though he couldn't explain why.
The figure shook her head. Clenching her fists, she charged forward again, ducking around Kitheus's Tri-Attacks--the bursts of energy sent clouds of dust in every direction, mixing with ice and fire and electricity. Kyle moved as quickly as he could to keep up with their skirmish, trying to keep himself between the attacker and the boys. As he glanced back at them, he could see, too, that Will had taken the initiative in protecting Levi. While it was too dangerous to try to make a break for it, the older boy had placed himself in front of Levi, doing his best to shield him from any stray debris.
Kyle turned back to the battle. A shadowy attack slammed into Kitheus, exploding into a cloud that obscured much of his vision. He covered his face against the heat, gritting his teeth in discomfort. "Kitheus!" he managed to yell. "Kitheus, if you can hear me, use Flash Cannon!"
It took a moment, but the order was fulfilled. A line of bright energy burst in the darkness ahead, dispersing much of the cloud and revealing the Magnezone. Whatever that attack was, it appeared to have done a significant number on him--the Magnet Area Pokémon was scorched in several places, as if hit by fire, and he struggled to remain airborne. His opponent did not look nearly as injured. She closed in, arm raised and ready to slam a fist into Kitheus's form. Her head twitched briefly in Kyle's direction again--another moment of distraction, hesitation. Through the ringing in his ears, he thought he could hear something--an electronically-distorted voice, trying to say something.
"K̶͓̎͂ ̸̹̀.̵̧͑ ̷̠̳͊͝.̶̠̂̾ ̵̦̙͛.̴̝̻̀̀ ̷̬̽K̵̝̝͐̀ÿ̷̜́̑ ̸̪̗̂̀.̵̫͑̓͜ ̷̛̗̾.̶͎͉̈́ ̶̝̈́.̴͈͔̓?̴̳͕̅̚"
It was enough to let Kitheus move out of the way, gave him enough time to unleash a desperate Discharge.
The figure's fist slammed into the earth, creating an eruption of shadowed, earthen spikes.
An explosion of electricity erupted from the Magnezone's body,, stunning the figure and causing the spikes to implode, sending shrapnel in every direction.
A chunk rocketed toward Levi and Will, the latter of whom attempted to maneuver them out of the way just as his eyes began to glow.
Will screamed in pain as a sickening crack sounded from his shin where the debris impacted; white particles filled the air around them all, filling Levi, Kyle, Mime. Jr, Leif, Magnezone, and the PREDATOR Unit with a strange sensation of weightlessness.
A flash of white. A blink of the eye. And suddenly, without warning, Kyle felt himself tumbling through open air amidst chunks of rock and trees that had once been planted firmly in the Alamo Nursery.
He, the boys, and their Pokémon were all in free-fall hundreds of feet above a large, large landmass.

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City It is said that cats always land on their feet. That theory was put to the test as Chrono found himself hurled through the air. The world spun around him and he spun with it. He managed to right himself in midair, if only for a moment, before a nimbus of dark fire enveloped him. The flames -- if the cloud of burning, shadowy energy could even be called flames -- singed his fur and stung like the bite of a rabid Houndoom.
Chrono felt himself falling now, twisting in pain. His eyes narrowed as he focused his sights on the vaguely yellowish suit that had attacked him. Claws unsheathed and ears flattened against his head, Chrono fought through the pain that wracked his body. Whoever this silent suit was, they had just messed with the wrong Purrloin. Memories flowed through his mind as swiftly as the muscles rippling down his burning back. He saw a black-haired criminal whose tongue was as sharp as his shoe. He saw a handful of city goons attacking him for sport. He saw a pair of children taunting him. These memories fueled the fire raging in his heart, a fire that burned hotter than the shadowy flames that surrounded him. With an unyielding determination, Chrono twisted until he had regained control of his fall.
The old saying held true. Chrono's paws met the turf first, although they did not stay there long. Tensed muscles released, and like a pressurized Spoink the Purrloin kicked off from the ground the moment he landed, launching himself at his enemy. His fur bristled as his claws reached out to sink themselves into the yellow-suited warrior's neck.
Ellen watched in horror as Chrono took the fire attack in midair. She wanted to help him, but even if she could think of a useful attack she knew the Purrloin wouldn't listen to her. He was too absorbed in his own battle to listen to any commands she might yell.
It was Isabella who spotted the danger. Held tight in Ellen's arms, the Oddish peered over her trainer's shoulder and called out a warning. Ellen turned around right as the fourth unit grabbed her. She shrieked in surprise and aimed a swift kick at the silent assailant. Pressed between Ellen and her attacker, Isabella hastily tried to Absorb some of the suited warrior's energy. The Oddish barely noticed Fiora fly out of Ellen's arms. The tiny Flabébé vanished among the blades of grass, searching desperately for a flower she could use.
Ellen's cry echoed across the battlefield, pulling Shannon out of her daze. Of everyone present, the blonde-haired girl felt the most out of place. She was no fighter -- far from it -- and she knew that Ryan's Tyranitar could fight better by himself than with her trying to give him haphazard commands. But the moment Ellen screamed, Shannon felt herself spurred into action. Perhaps it was her time spent watching over Aori, but Shannon couldn't sit idly by while these dark suited people tried to attack a mere child.
Shannon raced across the battlefield toward Ellen, the seeds of a plan forming in her mind. She didn't have much in the way of physical strength, certainly not compared to suits that could stand toe-to-toe with Legendary and Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon. But if she could take Ellen's assailant by surprise, she just might be able to give the girl a chance to escape.
Artemis jerked her head toward her trainer, cursing herself for leaving Ellen's side. She scanned the battlefield and made a split-second assessment. As much as she wanted to rush over to help Ellen, she knew such a move would be impractical. Instead she turned her attention back to the battle at hand.
The green-tinted shadow suit had just managed to right itself from Symbio's attack. Artemis knew she couldn't give it a moment's rest. Springing into the air, propelled by a cold fury toward those who would dare harm her trainer, the Mienshao aimed a Jump Kick at the shadow unit's visor.
Symbio felt the scream long before he heard it. His psychic bond with Ellen let him feel her fear. His heart pounded against his chest as if he was the one who had been grabbed. For a moment the Reuniclus could only float in midair, processing Ellen's shock as his own. Then the light filled him. The shadowy cage that surrounded the battlefield became illuminated by a brilliant rainbow energy that poured out of Symbio like an overflowing dam. Power surged through him, closing the distance between Symbio and Ellen. Not in a physical sense, for the dazzling light that marked the Reuniclus's position remained above the battlefield. But on the mental plane, Pokémon and Trainer had become one and the same.
"Leave us alone!" Like the battle in the Opelucid Advanced Technologies building, the words came out of both Ellen's mouth and Symbio's mind. Words weren't the only thing projected on the mental plane. Ellen's and Symbio's eyes glowed with raw power as the pair unleashed a joint Psyshock on their enemy.
"What the--" Shannon froze several feet away from Ellen, shielding her eyes against the glow that had enveloped the field. That made five Mega Evolved Pokémon on their side. A knot formed in the pit of Shannon's stomach. She knew Tyranitar had that power, too. She could be helping him fight alongside the others. But even if she knew how to achieve that powerful, temporary evolution, the thought of unleashing that much power and destruction, no matter how badly they needed it, scared her. Everyone seemed wary of Black Kyurem, and with Tyranitar evidently confused, the last thing she wanted to do was give the green lizard more power.
And so Shannon stood there, rooted to the ground, wondering what to do.

Gnip not felt the painful chill hit her, but it spread throughout her body. Ice began encasing the Garchomp's mighty body. Seeing this, Evan knew that whatever their foe was planning for her, it would not be merciful. Evan then clapped his hands together, and as he separated them, what appeared to be a spear with a blade at the end manifested in the Hero's hands. He then focused again, sticking the halberd into the ground. A portal appeared, and as the Hero reached into it, he grabbed a rather large axe from within. "Jenny, I think you're gonna need this." The man said as he gently tossed the axe to Jenny. He then grabbed his halberd, and rushed towards the one who had incapacitated his friend.

IC: James Arthur/Percival - Cell Block
Percival braced himself for the attack. When it reached him, it dissipated harmlessly off him. Percival looked over his body, trying to figure out what the attack was. He tried to remember what the attack that was used against Ford was. But every time he tried to think about it, he was distracted by the sound of a drip. A perfectly spaced beat of “drip drip drip.”
He looked back towards Ford’s cell, but both enemy and ally were gone. All that he saw in the cell were two brooms. By both brooms was a bucket, with the telltale sloshing of water inside. Both buckets had a leak in them, the source of the incessant dripping.
But why were the buckets floating? They began to sway back and forth, spilling more water onto the floor. As the water peaked above the confines of one of the buckets, a face with a nasty grin appeared in the water. Percival realized what was going on.
The buckets were possessed!
As Percival began to back up, he noticed that each time he looked between one of the brooms and the other, another broom would appear. And worse still, there were now even more buckets.
Arms began to sprout from the brooms each one grabbing a floating bucket. Once every arm carried a bucket, the broom marched out of the cell towards Percy, slowly growing taller, the buckets growing wider, the sloshing growing louder. Percival scrambled back towards the wall, his hind legs dipping into the wall, back into James's cell.
James’s grip on the cell bars tightened as he saw Percy lose himself in a panic. He didn’t have Percy’s Ultra Ball on him, so he couldn’t do that old trick. And that would break the Shadow Tag, which was their insurance. Giving them a chance to escape would be unacceptable. He had no reliable way to fix this.
“Get control of yourself, Percy. You need to stick to the plan and use Hex.”
Who said that? Percy looked from side to side, and realized that he had backed himself into the middle of a row of bucket holding brooms. They held up their buckets above Percy, and began to slowly tip them over. Percy gathered his legs close to him and covered himself in fire.
“Percy!” James yelled.
Percy felt a nudge from a hand on his semi-corporeal form. Was that James? When Percival had been covered in flames? ...Oh no.
James stamped out small embers in his room, trying to ignore his singed hand. “Focus, Percy. I know you can break free of this.”

IC - S6-PREDATOR/S4-SLAVE/S3-GHOUL/S2-PHANTOM - Park, Ecruteak City:
Underestimation of an opponent--any opponent--could lead to severe consequences. That held true no matter the situation. As the PREDATOR Unit righted itself, still reeling from Kyurem's attack, its operator found themself under attack from the Purrloin again. The Dark-Type Pokémon lunged straight for their throat, claws slashing and fangs gnashing. Bony protrusions met tempered armor and the connective suit holding everything together; with a sharp hiss of escaping air, mixed with a sudden gasp of pain, the Purrloin's attacks felt purchase in his target's throat as warm, red blood seeped out from underneath the base suit.
The figure finally managed to get a hold of Chrono, tearing the Purrloin away from such a vital area and holding him at bay. Struggling to breathe, the figure merely tossed the cat to the side, not even bothering to send an attack after him. The PREDATOR Unit pressed a hand to its throat, gasping for breath. Its head turned about the field, scanning the situation. Finally, its voice crackled and wheezed over its comm link. "I̶͍̿n̵͕̓ĩ̴̘ţ̴͘ï̸̫a̶̞͌t̸̟͠i̶̗̎n̶̯̑g̴̬̽ ̷͕͛r̷̗͊e̷̪͂t̷̗̽r̸̦̂ẹ̵̊a̷̲͠t̷͕͆.̷̡̂"
The armored figure stepped back, holding a hand behind it while keeping the other pressed firmly against its throat. Shadows coalesced into a deep pool beneath it as it fell backward, vanishing into the void.
The SLAVE Unit rolled backward as Artemis's attack landed with a sharp crack, landing on its knees and hands. As the figure steadied itself, the SLAVE Unit turned to look back at Artemis. The attack had smashed part of its visor, creating a spiderweb of cracked glass that crawled outward over half of its visor. From the center of the web, its left eye was visible, framed by pale skin, nearly as white as a sheet of paper. The eye could only be described as glossy, vaguely retaining a hint of the blue pigment that had once occupied it. The SLAVE Unit gazed at Artemis briefly with what could only be called an utterly blank look--where one might have expected some sort of emotion within the eye, whether anger, respect, hatred, there simply lay nothing.
Dipping forward again, it charged at the Mienshao, quickly gaining speed as it charged toward the Fighting-Type. Each step added to the dark aura that surrounded it, until the figure had become a massive arrow of darkness headed straight toward its target. With heavy footfalls belying its utter momentum, the SLAVE Unit attempted a full-force slam directly into Artemis with Shadow End.
A garbled groan echoed from the PHANTOM Unit as it felt its energy draining. Its grip loosened on Ellen and it staggered back; a moment later, the groan turned into an equally-distorted shout of pain as psionic energy tore through its body. On instinct, she kicked off from the ground, launching herself backward to put some distance between herself and Ellen's team. The PHANTOM Unit took a moment to assess the situation before pushing her hands forward, then back. In a long, fluid motion, she began to summon a dark wind about the area, twisting and twirling the shadows into a pitch-black tornado that tore at the ground in front of her. With deliberate steps forward, the PHANTOM Unit hurled the tornado ahead of her, sending it straight toward Ellen and the others nearby.
Pleased with the progress done on freezing Gnip, the GHOUL Unit shifted target. Shadowy ice gave way to torrents of dark fire as it turned the attack on Kyurem and Chloe, the attack amplified by its BANE Module.

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City Artemis saw her attacker charge toward her. While she didn't know what type of attack this was, she was familiar enough with martial arts to recognize that it was a reckless attack, one that gave no thought to the attacker's own safety. That made her foe more dangerous.
The dull eye she had glimpsed through the broken visor only substantiated the theory that these attackers felt nothing. It was unnerving. An enemy that feared for its life would predictably take measures to safeguard that life in battle. But one who had no place for fear or anger was an unstoppable killing machine, a destructive force that could decimate a battlefield.
And yet, Artemis could use such a force to her advantage. The Mienshao allowed the attack to hit her with the force of a tank. Yet as they made contact, Artemis thrust her fist into her opponent's gut. While her opponent suffered recoil damage from the boorish attack, Artemis was able to rejuvenate the damage done to her through a Drain Punch. Her eyes narrowed as she stared into her opponent's blank eye, searching for any shred of humanity as she drained the unit's energy.
Ellen scooped up the Oddish in her arms and held her close as dark winds whipped around them. The girl wasn't used to being this involved in battle, and even with Symbio's power at her disposal she knew just how much danger she was in against these mysterious attackers.
Suddenly, the winds began to change. Streaks of light pink formed within the pitch-black tornado, counteracting the shadowy gale. Ellen and Symbio scanned the battlefield, but it was Isabella who first spotted their tiny friend. Fiora had managed to find a flower in the field, a brilliant camellia, and now wielded it like a wand. Her Fairy Wind started as a light breeze, then gradually grew within the Shadow Storm until it was a full-blown twister, spinning opposite the shadow unit's attack.
It was just the relief Ellen needed. No longer hindered by the winds, she strode up to the unit that had tried to grab her. "We don't know who you think you are," she and Symbio said in a powerful voice. "But we cannot allow you to threaten our friends like that. You are not welcome here!"
Ellen was now standing toe to toe with the unit, glaring up into its shadowy visor. As Isabella spewed out a Sweet Scent, Ellen clenched her hand into a fist. She was not prone to physical violence, but she would not stand for such an unwarranted assault. With a fierce cry, she threw a punch at the shadow unit. High in the air, Symbio mimicked Ellen's movements, lending his strength to her own. The result was a Dizzy Punch intended to knock their assailant off its feet.
From within Ellen's arms, Isabella quickly shifted her emissions from Sweet Scent to Sleep Powder. She didn't understand these foes any more than anyone else present, but she knew Ellen would want answers. It was better to incapacitate their foes than force them to flee.
"I̶͍̿n̵͕̓ĩ̴̘ţ̴͘ï̸̫a̶̞͌t̸̟͠i̶̗̎n̶̯̑g̴̬̽ ̷͕͛r̷̗͊e̷̪͂t̷̗̽r̸̦̂ẹ̵̊a̷̲͠t̷͕͆.̷̡̂"
The distorted words reached Chrono's ears and he knew what was about to happen. Adrenaline and bloodlust coursed through the Purrloin's veins as he saw a shadowy void open up beneath his foe. Bleeding, on the brink of death, the mysterious attacker would rather retreat than die on the battlefield.
This wasn't over yet.
Summoning forth all his energy, Chrono bounded toward the yellow-suited unit in hot Pursuit. He reached his opponent right before the silent warrior fell into the shadows. The darkness closed around them both.
And then they were gone.

IC - S4-SLAVE/S3-GHOUL/S2-PHANTOM - Park, Ecruteak City:
SLAVE and Mienshao collided in an explosion of dust, the former pressing and pressing upon the latter with more force than one might have expected from such a figure. As the two strained against each other, eyes matched in a silent battle of wills, the SLAVE Unit slowly began to lose ground as it felt its energy draining from its body. Simultaneously, Artemis seemed to gain power, pushing back against her attacker.
Their eyes were locked, however, and that was all the SLAVE needed.
What Artemis saw was a soft glint within the remaining portion of the visor, before a sense of dizziness hit. The image in front of the Mienshao's face was like a softly swirling picture, ebbing one way and then another in a hypnotic pattern that had already succeeded in bringing Corey under the SLAVE Unit's control. Weakened though it was, the S4 now threatened to do the same to the Fighting-Type.
With the unexpected resistance against the S2's attack, the PHANTOM Unit could not react in time to put any more distance between itself and the surprisingly-fast Ellen. The best it managed to do was cut off its own attack and bring its hands down, catching the trainer's superpowered fist in its palms--just enough to soften the blow. The force still managed to knock the PHANTOM Unit back, skidding several feet along the ground, but at the very least, it was still standing.
Looking about, however, it was forced to perform another round of calculations. The S6 had already retreated. Not too far away, the S4 looked like it was on its last leg. And the S3 was already a dead man walking--it was just a matter of time before its BANE Module wore off and it felt the full effects of the damage it had taken.
With no alternatives at its disposal, the PHANTOM Unit activated its own module. At the same time, the figure felt its mind spinning as the Sleep Powder took effect. It stumbled, rapidly losing consciousness. A pool of darkness appeared beneath it as it sunk, incorporeal, into the ground. Seconds later, the shadows had dispersed, and there was no further sign of the PHANTOM.

Anyone listening from outside of the shadow dome would be hard-pressed to imagine the destructive fight occurring within. As Lucia and Clara battled it out against the GHOUL Unit, Dothe was engaged in what could only be described as a boxing match of epic proportions. The Ghost-Type's Mega Evolution had brought with it an incredible boost in terms of raw physical power, amplifying what had already been his specialty in combat. Likewise, however, the GEIST Unit was no pushover, giving as good as it took.
The humanoid charged at Dothe, encased in shadows as it aimed to slam into him. With a clench of his fist, the Gripper Pokémon punched into the ground; a wall of ice materialized in front of him. Cold shards erupted around him as the GEIST burst through the wall, its momentum dampened somewhat by the barrier. Immediately, Dothe slithered back, keeping pace with his opponent. Electricity and ice gathered around his fist as he brought a combined Thunder and Ice Punch down on the Shadow Suit, sending it skidding across the ground toward the center of the field. Immediately, it righted itself, hands twisting and cutting through the air as it gathered shadows around its form. Pure dark energy erupted from its fingertips, not toward Dothe but to Gavin and Skye instead.
Another time--even a few moments earlier--the attack might have phased Gavin. But he stood his ground, watching this move with unflinching conviction. It was well-placed, as Dothe swiftly moved to intercept the attack. He caught the shadows in his palm, the strange, red core in his stomach glowing as he forced the stray strands of energy to reconvene in his palms before redirecting the attack at its origin point in kind. The GEIST kicked sideways, moving out of the way, and threw a hand forward to launch a second attack, this one a bolt of black lightning. Again, Dothe rushed forward, taking the attack straight in the palm and forcing the energy under his own will. It coalesced into a sphere of electricity around his fist, which he brought forward as he closed in on his opponent. A sharp crack sounded as it connected, slamming into the GEIST's midsection and launching it back.
The Rocket forces watched and waited, fully expecting the figure to stand once more. But it did not. After several moments, darkness seeped out from its body like blood around it, forming a wide circle in the concrete. The GEIST's form slowly sunk into these shadows, which closed off again as soon as it was fully out of sight.
That left only the GHOUL . . .
S1-GEIST: Defeated
IC - S4-SLAVE/S1-GEIST/John Ford/Madison Hayes - VIP Cell Block, The Alamo:
The GEIST might have grinned; it was wearing a mask, so who was to say? It turned back to Ford, situated in his impenetrable little bubble. The Shadowed Man stared back, uncertain of what the Shadow Suit was going to do next.
To his surprise, it placed a hand on the wall beside it, and then disappeared from view. Ford mentally counted the moments, waiting for it to step back before him. But it never did. The place was quiet, very quiet, save for the sounds of the Chandelure outside of the cell and the faint noises of battle beyond.
Ford's eyes widened. Immediately, he dropped the shield in front of him and dived forward so that he was prone on the ground. And not a moment too soon--from the darkness behind him, the GEIST materialized, having attempted a grab. If it was frustrated by his dodge, he again couldn't tell. If he had to guess, however, Ford would bet that this figure wasn't fully capable of comprehending emotions like annoyance or frustration--not anymore. It was after him and him alone, and it was hellbent on getting him, no matter how long it took.
As the figure walked toward him, Ford pushed himself to his feet and hurried forward, ducking out of the VIP Cell and into the hallway. The transformed Chandelure was here, and from the looks of it, it was not in its right mind. Ford glanced between it and the face of James Arthur, illuminated by the flickering flames of Chandelure's body. "I don't suppose you've any other Pokémon hiding in your cell!?"
The shadowy spikes dissipated just as quickly as they had appeared, yet the damage was already done. Hayes felt blood seeping down her arm and leg from fresh, pounding puncture wounds. Hayes placed her uninjured hand over the wound in her injured shoulder, and that hand over her leg wound, concentrating healing energy from both palms. She was lucky in one respect: Just as she was forced to take a moment to recover from the sudden injuries, so, too, was her opponent now catching its breath from the crushing impact of Hayes's psychic energy.
With her wounds somewhat taken care of, she turned back to the Shadow Suit. "Should've aimed higher." With that, Hayes's eyes glowed bright purple and she blinked out of existence. A moment later, she reappeared in front of the S4, thrusting a hand forward and placing her palm directly on its visor. The Shadow Suit's operator reached up just as Hayes clenched her fingers against the glass; inside of the helmet, blood splattered outward, covering the opaque face plate in red. The figure's arms slumped and it fell sideways, landing motionless on the ground.
Hayes stared at the body, rubbing the bridge of her nose in pain. After a moment, she turned the other way, hurrying back toward Ford's cell.
S4-SLAVE: Defeated
IC - S5-NEMESIS/Esen Windred/Sam Moreno/Jaeda - Nursery, The Alamo:
The sound of something large crashing through several trees was extremely difficult to ignore. Whatever was going on was causing the room to shake. Esen rushed to the window, peering down. At the same time, Sam held tightly to her laptop, staring in surprise at the older girl, her face pale. "W-What was that?"
Esen didn't answer immediately. Instead, her eyes widened and she stepped back, pointing at Sam. "Stay here!" She hurried toward the stairs, disappearing behind the door.
The fallen trees rumbled as Jaeda pushed against them. With a fiery roar, she erupted from the debris, scattering foliage and dirt everywhere. The S5 slid out from the cover of the trees, skidding to a stop across the clearing from the Charizard. The two stared each other down. The NEMESIS was the first to move, kicking off from its position and running forward. As it moved, its joints seemed to hum, amplified by some mechanism. Jaeda flapped her wings, moving out of the way just in time to avoid a Shadow Rush attack from the Shadow Suit that splintered the logs she had been standing on. In retaliation, the Charizard loosed an Inferno attack on her opponent. It hardly reacted as the flames surrounded it, disappearing momentarily from view. As the flames subsided, revealing the charred landscape and now some burning forest, the figure stood strong, staring up at the Flame Pokémon.
Before Jaeda could react, the figure crouched down and kicked off, flying into the air. As it came level with her, the S5 thrust its hands forward, launching a wave of water-like shadows toward Jaeda. The attack struck, slamming into her and causing her to crash into the ground below, barely conscious. The figure caught the top of a tree, tilting its head quizzically as it stared down at the stunned form of Jaeda. After a moment, it turned, searching for the other half of the battle as it became aware of the strange, surrounding silence . . .
It snapped its head back toward Jaeda as a massive burst of wind surrounded it, pulling the NEMESIS free from its perch and launching it into the air. It spun wildly, unable to gain its bearings. A dark shape appeared above. With a roar, the Noivern thrust its head forward, launching the sphere of draconic energy within its mouth straight into the NEMESIS Unit's midsection. Like Jaeda before it, the figure was sent falling into the ground below, creating a small crater on impact.
Esen hopped off of Krow, landing beside Jaeda. She looked between the Charizard and Noi, and then at Krow. "Keep that thing busy," she ordered. The Honchkrow nodded, taking flight and moving to join its teammate. Carefully, Esen pulled a Hyper Potion from her bag and began to apply it to Jaeda. Slowly but surely, the Fire-Type began to regain her composure. "Stay strong, Jaeda--you're going to be okay."
IC - S6-PREDATOR/Kyle Eston (Kitheus)/Levi Alaric (Leif)/Will Moreno (Mime Jr.) - In Free Fall:
If ever there was a moment to panic, Kyle felt that this was it. In the span of milliseconds, he and the boys had gone from the relative safety--at least stability--of the Nursery's field of battle to what would be a veritable death sentence under the vast, vast majority of circumstances. And if he didn't fight the sheer panic coursing through his veins, the deafening rush of wind against his ears, and the sheer knowledge that he was currently in free fall toward who-knew-where, chances were that this was going to be one of those circumstances.
He had little time to react, so he spared none. Looking around, he could see the obvious--the kids, their Pokémon, several trees and a whole lot of other brush and debris hurtling toward the ground below. He caught a brief glimpse of their assailant--the Shadow-Type User--that had started all of this; she was just vanishing into the rapidly air-whipped branches of one of the trees. It didn't take long for him to lose sight of her entirely. Was she panicking, too, and grabbing onto whatever was nearest, hoping that it would provide some protection from the coming impact? Or did she have some means of getting out of this unscathed? Bitterly, Kyle reasoned it was probably the latter.
He shook his head. Focus!
Leif and Mime, Jr. were falling, too; they were each holding tightly onto their respective trainers. Jaeda was gone--the safest way out of this, dragged off to another part of the Nursery moments too early. Will was unconscious, and his shin was badly bruised from where he had been hit just before the teleport. He couldn't tell if Levi was conscious or not, but given how hard it was becoming to breathe up here . . . He shook his head again. A glint caught his eye nearby.
Kitheus!
Kitheus was here. Kitheus could fly. He was struggling to right himself against the rushing air currents, but that was still something. Kyle felt for the Poké Balls on his belt, holding on tightly to the one that would normally hold the Magnezone, as well as the one next to it. He jammed his eyes shut.
Okay, we can do this . . . We can do this . . . We have to do this . . .
Nothing was happening. Why was nothing happening?
Come on, come on, come on!
How much closer was the ground?
Kitheus, please!
This was it. They were running out of time--
"KITHEUS!"
Kyle's eyes opened again as a shell of power encased the Magnezone. Immediately, he held Ruj's Poké Ball forward, releasing the Gliscor. Though surprised by the sudden wind currents, the Fang Scorp Pokémon was able to quickly gain his bearings, gathering the situation at hand. Kyle had only to point, directing the large Flying-Type toward Will. The Gliscor swept underneath them, spreading his wings and slowly rising up to meet them. With a lurch, he flipped other, catching Will in his arms. Kitheus did much the same for Kyle, carefully matching his descent with his main body and giving the Liberty Agent something solid to grab onto, as the smaller Mega Magnezone nodes worked together to catch Levi.
Carefully, all three pulled back their descent until they were drifting slowly toward the ground.
Shaking, and still holding tightly onto Kitheus's antenna with one hand, Kyle patted the Magnet Area Pokémon's hull. "Good work," he said, barely able to hear himself over the air currents around them. As Kitheus's nodes returned with Levi, Kyle held a hand out to help Levi take a more secure place on top of Kitheus. The boy's face was as white as a sheet of paper, and he was trembling in fear even more severely than Kyle. As he got situated on top of the Magnezone, Levi clutched tightly to Kyle's arm, holding on for dear life.
"M-Mr. Kyle . . .?" he stammered, unable to pull his eyes from the distant forest below.
"Don't look down," Kyle called back. "Focus on me. Do not look down."
It was difficult to console Levi at the moment, as Ruj was approaching with Will, but he made sure that the younger boy had at least closed his eyes before using his free hand to again reach out and pull Will onto Kitheus's large frame--with some minor telekinetic help from Mime Jr. With Will unconscious, Kyle found himself in the difficult position of maneuvering the three of them so that they could all be secure, but he eventually managed it. By the end of it all, he was essentially looping one arm around Kitheus's antenna and Levi, with the latter's hands gripping the antenna as well, and cradling Will in his lap with the other arm. The position put an uncomfortable strain on Kyle's shoulder, but the alternative was hoping that Kitheus's nodes and Ruj did not get overtaken by the wind currents as they descended, and he really did not want to take that risk.
It helped that said nodes had situated themselves between Kitheus's back magnets, so at least they could lean back without worry. Meanwhile, Ruj circled just below them, providing a sort of safety net. The rest of the matter was simply a waiting game, counting down the minutes and seconds before they broke through the tree tops and found solid flooring once again. Though he dreaded having to do so, Kyle had to force himself to look down at some point. The rest of the plant matter that had come with them was long gone by this point; from their current distance, he could see where at least some of the trees had crashed through the canopy. The image of their enemy flashed through his mind again, recalling the sight of her clamoring into one of the falling trees. Had she survived the impact?
Best not to take the risk.
"Kitheus," he said. "Get us some distance from where those trees fell, please--try to find the edge of this forest if you can."
The Electric-Type rumbled an affirmative beneath him, and he felt their moving platform shift ever so slightly to begin descending at an angle rather than straight down. Coincidentally, or perhaps as a consequence, Kyle felt Will stirring at that moment. He held tightly to the psychic boy, glancing down as Will's eyes opened. He squinted up at Kyle, blinking in confusion; then, turning his head slightly and seeing the sky slowly drifting upward past them, he started with a gasp and threw his arms around Kyle's midsection.
"Don't panic," Kyle said. "I've got you."
"W-What happened?" Will stuttered. "W-Where's t-that thing? W-Why are we s-so high up?" He yelped in pain as he tried to move his leg.
"Will, please, you need to stay calm," Kyle repeated. "We're almost to the ground and then we can figure everything out from there. Just breathe, in and out." He took some breaths himself--partly to model them, partly to keep his own panic under control. After a moment, Will began to do the same, visibly relaxing after a few. "Good, just like that. Just take deep breaths until we're down there. Okay?" The boy nodded.
"It'll be okay, Will," Levi's voice called out. It was still obvious that he was frightened, but he was putting on a brave face nonetheless. "D-Don't look down, either."
"Yeah, please don't," Kyle said. "Just focus on breathing."
They continued downward in silence for some time, the canopy drawing closer and closer. It wasn't until they were about thirty feet up from the trees that Will spoke again, finally having found some mental grounding for himself. "Mr. Eston?"
"Yeah?"
"D-Do you know where we are?"
Kyle fell silent. Once everything had gotten under control, he had taken some time to look around at the area below, trying to piece that answer together for himself. With how often and how far he had traveled, he figured that there ought to have been some sort of landmark that would stand out from so high up, yet he hadn't seen anything that he could call familiar.
"Honestly? I'm . . . really not sure, guys."

IC: James Arthur - VIP Cell Block
James grumbled quietly at Ford’s remark. It was a question with an obvious answer, when he was trying to think of a real solution while ignoring a burned hand. The question began to distract him with thoughts of ‘if only he could get a message out’. The same situation that was giving him the opportunity to act at all was the same one that prevented him from calling for help.
He forced the thoughts from his mind. Focusing on what couldn’t be done wouldn’t help here. He had to focus on what he had. What he had was Percival still in a daze. His outbursts had calmed down. At least he wasn’t actively Percival still carried enough firepower to tear through his opponent if he could actually hit it.
His legs were still partially in James’s cell. They were not fully solid, evident by the fact that he was able to phase through the wall. But Percival had felt James touch him, James was certain of that much. He could use that.
James lowered his voice so his opponent wouldn’t overhear, and hoped that Percival would, “Percival. I am going to guide you into position. All you have to do is use Hex in a straight line ahead of you when I tell you to.”
Percival didn’t respond. James cautiously moved his not burned hand around one of the legs that was in his room. With a wince, he began to move his other hand up to Percival’s other leg. It didn’t quite feel like he was holding something, but there was still something in the curl of his hands. As he slowly shifted his hands, the legs followed after a short delay. James smiled at that. He took a look out of the bars to his cell. He began to adjust Percival’s position. The burn on his hand made his movements a bit unsteady as he reacted to the pain. But that served to mimic the erratic movements confusion would often bring about.
“John Ford, I would advise getting out of our way,” James called out into the hall as Percival slotted into place.
Whatever James was planning, Ford did not stick around to get caught up in it. When Ford had cleared the Percival’s line of sight, James gave the command.
“Now.”
The four rings that made up Percival’s eye holes began to glow. Purple tongues of flame filtered out of the eyeholes. They gathered together into a great eye of fire. The eye looked directly at the GEIST. The tongues of ghost-fire poured out of the eye like tears, and rapidly approached the GEIST.

IC: Ellen Burks/Shannon Willows - Park, Ecruteak City Ellen and Symbio stared at the spot where the shadow unit had vanished into the ground. Then they turned to assess the rest of the battlefield. Only two enemy units remained. One had targeted Chloe and Black Kyurem. The other seemed to be standing by itself . . .
They first saw the attack through Symbio's eyes. Even then, they barely had enough time to duck under the Mienshao's lightning-fast paw. "Artemis?" Visible confusion formed on Ellen and Symbio's faces. For the briefest of moments they saw a glazed look in their friend's eyes. Then a follow-up kick send Ellen's body sprawling on the turf.
Symbio's half of their mind immediately knew what to do. Artemis was a powerful opponent, but like any fighting-type she had clear weaknesses. Before they had even picked Ellen's body up off the ground, they had already charged a Psyshock.
But Ellen's half of their mind hesitated. Whether or not she was in control of her actions at the moment, Artemis was still one of their closest friends. Using such a powerful attack could cause considerable damage, especially with the strength of a Mega Evolution.
While Ellen and Symbio sat motionless, Isabella spewed forth another wave of Sleep Powder at the oncoming Mienshao. Artemis shot an Aura Sphere at the Oddish, dispersing the soporific spores in its wake.
Meanwhile, Tyranitar blinked as his confusion suddenly cleared. He saw Artemis attacking Ellen and immediately knew something was wrong. He roared in warning as he began charging toward the Mienshao.
Shannon had been watching all of this unfold, and immediately threw herself between Tyranitar and his intended opponent. The green lizard bared his fangs, clearly annoyed at Shannon's desire to stay out of the fight. He would have swiped her aside with a massive claw, but the fiery look in her eyes made him hesitate.
"Tyranitar, listen to me," Shannon said in as calm a voice as she could muster. "That Mienshao is a powerful Pokémon, and she's being controlled right now. If you fight her head on, you'll lose." Tyranitar scoffed, but Shannon continued. "She's not your enemy. See that lone person in the suit? That's the one controlling the Mienshao. That's who you need to attack."
For a moment, Tyranitar couldn't believe his ears. Did Shannon really just give him a command to attack? He glanced at her questioningly. A dark look crossed the girl's face. She hesitated only a moment before resigning herself to her decision.
"I think a Stone Edge should do it."
With a solemn nod, the green lizard stomped not toward Artemis but toward the shadow suit controlling her. A dozen pointed stones rose from the ground, floating around Tyranitar. Then one after another the rocky daggers hurled themselves at the shadow suit.
Shannon turned away before the stones could hit their mark.

IC - S4-SLAVE/S3-GHOUL - Park, Ecruteak City:
With Artemis taken care of the, the SLAVE Unit could take a brief moment to stabalize itself a bit. Its reprieve was broken by a sudden assault from the Tyranitar--evidently cured of its earlier confusion. As the SLAVE Unit watched, a dozen jagged stone shards erupted from the ground near Tyranitar, before each suddenly rocketed toward their target. The SLAVE Unit moved rapidly, dipping to the right; the first stone embedded itself in the ground behind the Unit, rattling the earth.
One by one, the ground shook as the massive stones impacted. None had yet met their mark. As the number of projectiles dwindled, the SLAVE Unit diverted its course, moving in Tyranitar's direction. It counted three left. One shot toward it--easy enough to dodge. Just as it moved to the left, another impacted, just where the SLAVE Unit had intended to go. The Shadow Suit operator merely leaped forward and twisted, using the stone slab as a platform to bounce off of. Shadow coalesced in the SLAVE's hand as another stone hurled forward to meet it in midair; with a well-placed bolt of shadows, the stone exploded, and the SLAVE Unit continued its trajectory forward, straight toward Tyranitar.
At least, it would have.
Another stone had followed the third, catching the SLAVE Unit off-guard. It did not utter any surprise or pain as the slab crashed into its form, hurtling it backwards and pinning it against another of the boulders. Blood splattered out from beneath the rock in front; the figure's arm, which now was the only piece of it that remained visible between the two boulders, fell limp at its side.
Near-instantly, the fog covering the minds of Corey and Artemis began to lift as they felt their sense of self returning.

IC - S1-GEIST/John Ford/Madison Hayes - VIP Cell Block, The Alamo:
Ghastly fire engulfed the GEIST Unit. On its own, the hit might not have been that severe, but combined with the previous burns that had afflicted the GEIST, its power was doubled. As if the initial knock-back and damage was not bad enough, the spectral flames that erupted across its body threatened to do further harm. One might normally panic at this situation--fire burned, after all, and burning hurt. But this individual, while not unaffected, did not give any indication that it was in pain, insomuch as it seemed to acknowledge the fact that fire gradually eating away at it was not an ideal condition. Rather than immediately retaliating, it retreated out of view in Ford's cell before slamming a hand into the first electrical panel it could find. Arcs of electricity jumped from hand to circuit, and a moment later, the cell's emergency sprinkler system had activated, the force and volume of spray quickly helping to dim the flames until the cell had returned to darkness.
Over the sound of running water, and through the shadows of the hallway, Ford could hear someone approaching from further down. It did not take long for Hayes to manifest through the shadows, nursing some injuries but still very much alive. "Sophia," the Shadowed Man said, the relief evident in his voice. He pulled her into a hug as she approached. "Are you alright?"
"Nothing that won't heal," the Second Child said. "I've eliminated one of these . . . things. I don't know who sent them here, but they aren't Instances--though there is virtually nothing human left inside of their heads. Regardless, I suggest we leave while we have the opportunity."
"That is certainly a shame. As for leaving . . ." Ford said. He glanced at James, and then back at the cell. "I do owe Mr. Arthur here something of a debt for protecting me from this other opponent. It would feel wrong to depart without at least some sort of compensation, wouldn't you agree?" He looked back at James. "You are welcome to come with us, Mr. Arthur, if you wish. Alternatively we will remain long enough to help deal with this assailant. I would not recommend trying to stop us from leaving, however, if you would prefer to stay."

IC - S5-NEMESIS/Esen Windred (Krow, Noi)/Sam Moreno/Jaeda - Nursery, The Alamo:
The Hyper Potion worked quickly; before long, Jaeda felt well enough to lift herself back up. Esen laughed as the Charizard gave her an affectionate nuzzle. Her expression hardened, however, as she looked around. "Jaeda, where are Kyle and the others?" The Charizard could only provide an uncertain whimper at the question, prompting Esen to clench her jaw. "Okay. Well, let's get this thing taken care of and work from there." Jaeda nodded, moving to allow Esen onto her back. With a flap of her wings, the Flame Pokémon lifted off, moving to join the fight.
The NEMESIS Unit shook its head as it stood up from its landing place, shaken by the impact of the fall. As it recovered, it looked carefully around. The opposing Noivern had landed just a few feet away, back arched and fur puffed out in warning to the Shadow Suit. A moment later, a large Honchkrow appeared, flanking the Nemesis. As it weighed these two opponents, the S5's original opponent appeared in a different position, healed up and carrying a woman on its back.
The NEMESIS was injured, and it was surrounded. It lifted a hand to the side of its helmet. "N̶̝͝Ȇ̸͚M̸̔͜E̸̼̒Š̶͉I̶̠̿Ś̵͕ ̵͔͗t̶͖̒o̴̼͛ ̶̹͘P̷͙͒R̷̩͂E̵̮͝D̶͔̽Ǎ̶̞T̸̪͋O̷̱̒Ȓ̵̮,̴͇̉ ̷̧̿w̵̤͘h̵͎͘a̵̧̍t̷̡̚ ̶̖́i̷̧̎s̵̳̾ ̸̨͋m̸̛ͅi̷̗̾s̶̢̽s̵̰̚i̸̳̐o̷͚͊n̴͈͘ ̷̨̐s̸̥͋t̵̺͐ă̶͜t̵͉̅ŭ̸͚s̴̱̽?" It did not receive a response. Esen slid off of Jaeda's back, taking a step forward. "Stand down and you won't get hurt," she called.

Esen's brow furrowed. "I can't understand you," she said. "Whoever you are, this is your last chance to end things peacefully."

It did not get a chance to do whatever it was about to do. As soon as it started forward, Krow, Noi, and Jaeda released their attacks upon it, hitting the NEMESIS with a combination of wind, fire, and darkness. When the smoke cleared, the figure--already injured--was barely standing. Before their eyes, it fell sideways, either unconscious or dead, and lay still. Esen sighed and started forward to collect the body, only to stop as darkness spread out in a pool underneath it. The Shadow Suit sunk into the void, soon disappearing completely.
"W-What was that?"
Esen turned around. Sam was peeking out from behind a tree, evidently having followed from the Observation Deck. "I don't know," Esen admitted. "Come on--we need to let someone know what happened here."
IC - Kyle Eston (Kitheus, Ruj)/Levi Alaric (Leif)/Will Moreno (Mime Jr.) - Forest, Unknown:
The made it to the forest floor with no further complications. As soon as they had landed, Kyle set to work dealing with the most immediate issue: Will's shattered ankle. Luckily, the Liberty Agent carried first aid supplies with him for situations just like this, and he had had some basic training in splinting these types of injuries. The end result wasn't the tidiest work that Kyle had ever done, but it was functional, and that was all that it needed to be.
"How's it feel?" he asked.
Will gave him a blank look. "Well, it hurts . . ." he said quietly. "But it's a little better now. Thank you. I think I can work on it from here." He leaned forward, hands shaking as he hovered them over his injury. A soft pink glow emanated from Will's palms as he focused psychic healing energy through them. The action caused him to visibly grimace in pain, but he worked through it, and after a moment his expression began to soften as the pain began to soothe.
Kyle watched him in silence for a moment before glancing up at the younger boy's face. "So I know you're still pretty hurt, but do you have any idea where you might have sent us?" Will shook his head. "Nothing around here is familiar at all? This isn't somewhere you might have come on vacation or seen in a photograph or something?"
"I'm sorry, I just don't know," Will said. "I didn't even know I could do that."
"You don't have to apologize," Kyle said. "It's okay--we'll figure it out one way or another." He stood up and stepped away, fiddling with his Pokétch. He hadn't noticed in the struggle, but evidently an attack or debris had rebounded at some point and hit his wrist. His hand hurt, but thankfully wasn't injured. The bigger problem was that his Pokétch had cracked and was not working--he could see vague hints of the display functioning, but not nearly enough for him to actually use the device. He cursed under his breath. "Do either of you have a Pokétch or a Poké Gear?"
"I do; it's--" Will's face fell as he moved a hand away to grab his Poké Gear, finding its spot on his belt empty. He looked back at Kyle. "I . . . I think it might've fallen off when we teleported . . ."
"I have mine," Levi piped up. Thus far he had been quietly watching Kyle and Will work from underneath a tree, hugging Leif close to his chest and leaning against Ruj while Mime Jr. balanced on his head. The Pokémon moved aside as he scrambled to his feet, hurrying to the older trainer and holding out his Poké Gear.
"Levi, you're a lifesaver." The younger boy blushed in embarrassment. Kyle took the device, opening it and scrolling through the installed apps, while taking note of the lack of signal in the upper right corner. Finally, he found a map and a compass, which he pulled open. He whistled for Ruj, handing the device off to the Gliscor. "Fly around a bit--see if you can get us an analysis of the area." The Pokémon nodded and took off into the air, disappearing above the canopy.
While Ruj worked, Kyle took a moment to sit down. Like the others, he was still shaking pretty badly from the initial teleportation and resulting fall, so it was a relief to finally have some time to mentally process the situation. All in all, he knew that this was a bad position to be in--out in the middle of nowhere with an injured kid and no sense of their position. It would have been bad enough without the looming threat of Missing Zero, which for all they knew, could have already gained a foothold in this place; and the threat of the individual that had forced them into this position to begin with, whose own survival Kyle couldn't comment on. He had lost track of it in the fall, but something in his gut told him that they weren't through with that creature just yet.
He rubbed his wrist, closing his eyes for a moment to focus. The most important thing right now was keeping everyone safe, and getting somewhere where they could get help.
"Mr. Kyle?"
Levi was standing in front of him when he opened his eyes. One of the boy's arms was crossed over his stomach, gripping his other arm. He looked nervous.
"What's up?" Kyle asked. "Are you hurt?" He felt a sudden rush of panic, realizing that while he had seen Will get hit, he could have easily missed something that had happened to Levi in the fray.
Thankfully, Levi shook his head. "N-No, I just had a question. I, um . . . I was wondering how you came up with names for your Pokémon." Kyle's surprise must have shown on his face, because Levi immediately looked embarrassed about asking. "S-Sorry, I know we're lost so it's not important . . ."
"Oh, no, it's okay--I just . . . people don't usually ask," Kyle said. He rubbed the back of his head. "I, uh . . . I don't really know. I used to have stories that I'd make up when I was younger, back before I became a trainer, so a lot of them are just names that I came up with back then." Now it was Kyle's turn to be embarrassed. It had been a while since he really gave those names any thought, and even longer since he'd thought about the stories they'd originated from. It was funny to think about such simpler times, especially after everything he'd seen recently. "Do you mind if I ask how you named Leif?"
Levi's face turned red. "Um . . . I-I came up with it because it sounded like 'leaf' and he's a Grass-Type so he thought it was funny," Levi stammered. "But, um . . ." He paused for a long time. "I-It's not his real name . . ."
Kyle did not admit that he already knew this. "Did he want to be called something other than his real name?" Levi nodded. "I get that."
"Is that normal?"
"Yeah," Kyle said. "A lot of people change their names for a lot of different reasons. It's completely normal."
He visibly relaxed. "T-That's good; Leif was worried that it wasn't . . ." A glint of sadness appeared in Levi's eye as he glanced to the side, looking at a random tree in thought. He looked like he wanted to say something else, but either couldn't bring himself to say it or didn't know how to.
"Do you know what you would name another Pokémon if you caught one?" Kyle asked, changing the subject for him. Levi shook his head. "Do you have an idea of any Pokémon you'd want to catch?"
"Um . . . not really," Levi said. After a moment of thought, "I guess . . . Maybe a Bulbasaur? My mom has a Blastoise and my dad has a Charizard like yours, so I think a Bulbasaur would be cool."
"A Bulbasaur," Kyle repeated. "Well, hey, maybe we can get you one while we're here."
Levi's eyes immediately lit up. "Really?"
"Yeah," Kyle said, smiling. "We're in a forest, right? We're bound to run into one sooner or later."
"You really think so?" Kyle nodded. Levi couldn't help but bounce in excitement. At that moment, Ruj returned, settling on the ground near Kitheus and Will with the updated map in hand. "Would you help me catch one if we do?"
The Liberty Agent rose to his feet, ruffling Levi's hair as he walked back toward the others. "Of course, buddy," he said. "First thing's first, though: We need to figure out where we're going."
