IC: Evan Tierra/Jenny Hakuda, Under The Weight
Vlad considered himself a sturdy Gliscor, but all the damage that had been dealt to the Fang Scorp was really taking its toll. What he wouldn’t give to have his moves back! That train of thought was interrupted by fangs sinking into him, causing a great pain to shoot into Vlad’s brain, causing him to let up his assault on Eelite as he fell limp. Lazengann saw this, and rushed towards the Eelektross, considering Lurelite a minor annoyance compared to one of his comrades falling. As he drew closer to the Electric-type, the mole leapt into the air, and folded up into a drill and spun towards Eelite’s side.
The mighty Hippowdon was feeling mighty pleased with her tactic, when she felt a powerful strike on one of her legs, causing her to open her mouth, releasing Boarlite’s arm in the process. She narrowed her eyes at Sandlite, and began to turn around, aiming to rush towards the Intimidation Pokémon. Meanwhile, Monstro was pushed away by the sudden attack by Gyaralite. The Mud Fish was considering his options, when he saw Scizlite transform into the same form Lancelot had assumed in Alola. He looked at Evan, who gave him an approving look while being amazed himself at Scizlite’s transformation. Monstro became encased in the same rainbow shell, grinning as it broke apart, revealing his bulked up form. Feeling the immense power thrumming through his body, the Water-type rushed towards Boarlite. The Mega Fire Pig was dazed from the pain from Hippowdon’s mighty chomp, and grabbed by the Swampert with both of his mighty arms, and then threw her at Gyaralite, but not before unleashing a Hydro Pump on her, increasing the velocity that she flew towards the Atrocious Pokémon.
Gnip was trembling, not in fear, but in anticipation. Despite losing a few fangs, despite the punches she had endured, seeing such a powerful foe only emboldened the Land Shark. It wasn’t fun if it wasn’t a challenge! The Garchomp roared, and rushed towards the amped up Scizor, aiming to use her fins to slash out at Scizlite, aiming to test the limits of this new form of hers.
Eelite yelped in pain as the Excadrill spun into her side. The Eelektross stumbled to the side a little as she swiped out with her wing claws to try and do some damage. She wasn't sure that it would do much against the Steel type, but she wanted to at least do something.
Sandlite took the look as a challenge and decided to stand her ground, arms outstretched. With a confident grin, the Krookodile waited for the Hippowdon to charge and tried to keep the Hippowdon stuck in one spot. If that didn't work, then she'd just try to leap at the last second, but wasn't sure exactly how well that would work out.
"Oh. I'm flying now." Boarlite mumbled as she flew through the air with the grace of the majestic flying Emboar she was. Then she realized where she was flying to. A moment later, the Hydro Pump hit her and she lost consciousness for a moment before crashing into Gyaralite.
"Don't give up, Gyaralite!" Jenny called out as she clenched her fist. "Keep it up, keep on fighting!"
The Gyarados groaned as she tried to slither out from underneath the unconscious Emboar before Boarlite was called back to her Poké Ball. But then she heard Jenny's cheers and the mention of fighting. With a roar, Gyaralite rose back up to her full height. This was a fight... and she was going to give a fight to this Swampert. With a rainbow glow, The Gyarados roared out once more, for once completely in charge of her emotions when told to fight. And when the rainbow shell broke, she gathered up energy around herself and slammed into Monstro with a Giga Impact.
Scizlite handily blocked the fins with her gauntlets crossed together. She grinned at the feeling of the sheer power she felt, then pushed out against the Garchomp's fins as she moved her arms to the side. Her right pincer glowed as she dashed to the right with more speed than before. However, she turned on a dime and dashed back with a Bullet Punch aimed toward the Garchomp's shoulder just to test if she actually could use moves now like Lancelot could. However, she also held back the punch as much as she could for the moment, so as not to give too big an advantage to herself while she was still learning this new form.
Lazengann was knocked away by the Eelektross’s attack, and struck a pose as he unfolded himself, panting a little. He decided that it was time to fight the eel on it’s own terms, and rushed forwards, claws splayed wide open to slash at his foe. Vlad took notice of Lurelite floating on high, and glided up to her level, grinning as he did so. He was gonna get this chandelier back for the tricksy maneuver she had pulled a while back with a few strikes of his own. Hippowdon decided to charge towards Sandlite, the mighty thumping of her feet echoing as she rushed towards her target at full bore. Seeing this, Behemoth decided to aid the elderly Heavyweight, by rushing towards Sandlite.
Monstro took the full brunt of the Giga Impact, and grinned. He hadn’t felt such power in a long while. He exhaled a cool breath towards the Gyarados, aiming to slow her down so he could strike her with another Hammer Arm. He was feeling exhilarated at the challenge that Gyaralite would present now.
Gnip took the impact, drinking in just how powerful it was as she was knocked away onto her stomach. The Mach Pokémon growled as she got back up, giving Scizlite a lopsided grin, one that radiated with excitement. Now this was a fight. "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Attagurl!" Evan said, shouting happily at Gnip. "You've taken a lot worse in your life, Gnip! This is nothing!"
He was right. In her entire life, Gnip had taken a lot, the worst being the weakest in her frenzy. It was thanks to this man, her friend, that despite all that, she had become truly mighty. Sure, she wasn't all powerful, but that didn't matter. All that mattered was this fight and how strong she was, thanks to everyone.
As she thought, a rainbow light encased the Garchomp, cocooning her as a triumphant roar shook the area. The cocoon shattered in a burst of joyous light, its particles transforming into rainbow coloured sand. Amidst it, where Gnip once stood, was a large, hot-pink creature that looked like a Garchomp, only instead of fins and claw on her arms, there were large sickle-like blades. The creature roared at Scizlite, and on cue, the earth shook violently, as Gnip rushed towards her rival, her master looking on in awe.

OOC: Kalos City is a place that exists. Also this post takes place before the events occurring in Lumiose City.
IC: Jamie Arthur/Lucia Zyther - Cyllage City
Two shambling figures stumbled their way through the doors of Cyllage City’s gym. Behind them were a Heracross and an Audino. They were holding up better than their trainers, but that was a low bar to clear. But Jamie was determined to fight someone today. So the pair dragged themselves into the rock gym within the Rock Gym. Jamie looked around for a bit. She didn’t see anyone. She walked over to the rock wall and gripped her hand on it. She thought about trying to climb it, but decided against before rubbing some sleepiness out of her eyes.
“Hello?” Jamie called out, hoping someone would hear. “We got Pokémon, and we want a fight!”
A spike-topped head poked out from the battlefield plateau atop the wall, peering down at the duo with a stony expression. After a few moments’ study, it vanished, the sound of shifting stone the only indication the Onix had not returned to its slumber. The sound stopped, replaced by the soft sound of well-maintained machinery, and a minute later an elevator door opened, revealing a dark-skinned man in an immaculate gray suit with piercing blue eyes.
“Are you the Cyllage City Gym Leader?” Jamie asked, forcing herself to grin despite her tired demeanor.
“I am,” the man confirmed. “I’m Grant. And who might you be?”
“I am Jamie Arthur, and this is Lucia Zyther,” Jamie said pointing to Lucia. “And we’re here to challenge you to a double battle.”
Grant studied the two challengers, as well as their Pokémon. “No,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m sorry, but I have to refuse your challenge.”
"What? But why?" Lucia asked with a small frown. She wasn't going to complain for herself, especially with how she currently was, but it didn't seem like something that could be possible, from the stories she'd heard about gyms.
“I only accept challengers when they’re at their best.” The Gym Leader fixed Jamie with a sympathetic look. “Right now I can tell that you aren’t.”
Lucia fell quiet at that. She wasn't entirely sure whether Grant meant a specific one of the two or just both of them, but… she couldn't argue against that, especially for herself. Still, she knew that Jamie wasn't going to like that idea - and wondered why exactly it was necessary for such a rule.
It took Jamie a moment to process the words that had just come out of the Gym Leader’s mouth. “What that’s…” she struggled to find the right word. No one ever told her that Gym Leaders could just turn down a match. “I am in plenty good condition. Why not?”
“From the very start of my time as a Gym Leader, I’ve wanted my challengers to come at me with everything they have. But over the years, I’ve learned that people can’t truly give it their all when they haven’t taken care of themselves.”
Jamie’s frown deepened. “Fighting is how I take care of myself,” she muttered quietly.
“Tell you what. Why don’t we discuss this up there?” Grant pointed to the plateau atop the series of climbing courses. “Maybe along the way you’ll uncover a new perspective.”
Jamie turned towards the rock wall. It didn’t seem so tall. She stomped over to the base of the wall, grumbling under her breath. She grabbed the first rock above her. Turning her head down, she looked between three rocks near her feet. She tested her foot on each one: one was too small for her foot, one was awkwardly positioned for the rock she had chosen with her hand. So she placed her foot on the remaining rock. She looked to the rocks above her for something to grab. The nearest rock seemed almost out of reach to her. It took her nearly leaping to grab onto the rock. She hung from the rock for a moment. Her foot could no longer reach the one it had started from. Her muscles strained as she tried to pull herself up enough so that her leg could reach another rock. Her leg did indeed reach another rock, but she found herself stuck in an awkward position. The rock her leg as on was actually too high up for her to be able to push herself up. She didn’t want to let go of either the rock her leg was standing on or the leg she was holding with her hands. Her head looked back and forth between the two, trying to figure out what the right option was. But her grip slipped, and she fell backwards. She tumbled down to the mat and hit it with a resounding thud.
She grimaced, and hit the mat with her fist. After catching her breath, she picked herself off the mat and picked the same stone to start on again. Pelleas spread his wings and followed after Jamie. Jamie hadn’t given Pelleas any order to help, so he didn’t. But he wanted to be there in case she fell from a higher rock next time. Jamie looked further out for a different rock to climb to. One that was hopefully a bit lower, so she could more easily pull herself up. She did indeed find one, but it was out of reach from the rock she was on. She took a leap towards the rock, and got on hand on it before she promptly lost her grip and tumbled down to the mat.
“Jamie,” Lucia said, hesitating to even attempt an interruption. “I know you’re going to keep trying no matter what, but you should take it easy before you hurt yourself. Otherwise you won’t even be able to try.”
Jamie sat for a moment and took in Lucia’s words. She took a few breaths to calm herself. Her breathing became more even, even as anger welled up in the eyes glaring at the wall. She took a few more deep breaths before standing up and walking over to the wall again. She placed her leg on the foothold once again. Her eyes were firmly locked on the same stone she had failed to grab before. Time seemed still for Jamie as she took several breaths with her eyes closed. Her eyes shot open and she leapt at the far stone, grabbing hold of it with both hands. She promptly slammed into the side of the wall but her hands held firm. Her left leg found a foothold and stabilized herself. It took quite a bit for her to not cry from the pain of slamming into the wall. But she forced herself not to cry, and instead look to the next stone. There was a foothold right next to her, within easy reach of her right foot. She placed her right foot on it, and lifted herself higher. Jamie had only meant to keep herself stable, but since there was another foothold to her left now, she raised her left leg to meet it. The top of the section of rock wall was just about in reach. She grit her teeth and placed both legs on the foothold. She made a leap for the top of the wall, and grabbed onto the ledge. But her arms had only barely made the ledge. Her arms were completely outstretched, and she was without a foothold. In her tired state, she couldn’t muster enough strength to bend her arms to lift herself up. Her fingers strained. Sweat began to weaken her grip. Jamie braced herself for the fall when her last finger slipped. But her fall was cut short. Pelleas stood at the top of the section of rock wall. He might not have been given an order to stop her from falling, but he would be damned if he didn’t stop this fall. It was much higher up than her last fall and more rocks she could’ve hurt herself on in the fall. The Heracross heaved and pulled Jamie up onto the top of the section of rock wall.
Grant had risen when he saw Jamie’s arms clear the ledge, he and his Onix both running towards her as they began to slip, but both Gym Leader and Pokémon had settled once her Heracross stepped in to rescue her. The Gym Leader frowned slightly, if anything more concerned for his challenger than he had been before. She had failed the climb, but that was not the cause for his concern. The rock wall had never been a requirement for his Gym, but rather a teaching device meant to impart a particular lesson -- one that, evidently, she had still yet to learn. This was the failure that concerned him. “Welcome,” he said, not bothering to hide the worry running beneath his naturally soothing demeanor. “I see you’ve had some difficulties reaching the top. In my experience, adversity is a natural teacher. Is there anything you’ve learned in getting here?”
Jamie had to catch her breath for a while. Part of it was from exhaustion, and part of it was from the fear she felt when she started to fall. She crawled over to the edge and pointed down at the rock she had leapt for more than once. The one that grabbing lead to her smashing her face. “I learned that I really, really hate that rock. It is a bad rock.”
“I see.” Grant considered the young woman before him. “Let me ask you something. Where was your focus when you started climbing?”
“When I started climbing?” Jamie asked lying back on the ground. “I guess at first I was mad that I had to climb the stupid wall just to get to the battle. And then I got mad at that rock when I couldn’t get past it.”
“I see.” The man took a moment to consider his next question carefully. “I’d like to ask, then. What do you think held you back from success?”
“I wasn’t strong enough,” Jamie said, hitting the ground. “I pulled as hard as I could, but I couldn’t lift myself up.”
Grant sighed. It was exactly the answer he’d hoped not to hear. The Gym Leader shook his head. “Strength can only take you so far. Your focus is what determines your reality.”
“My focus?” Jamie asked.
“I didn’t build this wall to keep challengers away. I built it to give my challengers the chance to learn the same lessons I did in my youth. To me, scaling the wall is a chance to enter a state of true enlightenment. I look up to my destination, and I forget everything else in the world; reaching the top becomes my one and only goal. As long as there is a wall for me to climb, I will rise to the challenge. I want my challengers to experience that same feeling when they come to face me; no fears, no burdens, just their purest, truest self coming at me with everything they have. Some folks don’t need the wall to reach that. But many do, and that’s why the wall is there.”
Jamie grabbed her head and tried to rub the tiredness out of her eyes. She tried to grasp what the term ‘enlightenment’ meant from the context. She was able to vaguely understand the literal definition from what Grant said. But she couldn’t grasp the why of it all. This place was supposed to be for fighting. What point did all of the fancy talk really serve? It was just a frustrating wall. She always went all out when fighting. She didn’t need a wall for that.
“I just came here to learn if I’m strong. Not about… ‘enlightenment’?” Jamie said, still not entirely sure what the word really meant.
“A person’s strength isn’t just from the body. It comes from the mind as well, and the heart. Raw power won’t solve every problem. In times like those, you need strength of will to overcome them. If you lose sight of your goal, your own burdens will just drag you down. If you can learn to shed those burdens and center yourself, however, you can overcome anything the world tries to throw at you.”
By now Lucia had used the observation elevator to reach the area, catching most of the Grant’s spiel. “You have to have conviction in addition to strength,” she said. “That makes sense.”
Hearing Lucia’s voice tended to make things sound like they made sense, even when they didn’t. “Conviction…” Jamie said. If she considered herself to have convictions, it was in the fact that she was a hero. At least, she hoped that she believed it.
Her eyes became quite heavy, the feelings of tiredness kicking in again. She hated to admit it, but whatever lesson she was supposed to learn from the stupid wall, her tired state made it impossible to wrap her head around it.
“...I need sleep,” Jamie admitted. She didn’t want to say the words ‘give up’ or anything like that. But she was stonewalled here. That wall wasn’t going to teach her what Grant wanted in this state. And if he wouldn’t battle her in this state, then staying here was pointless. But failure was not something she wanted to admit.
“I can come back after we deal with… whatever is waiting for us in Geosenge,” Jamie said. “I will figure out this wall then.” She forced herself up off the ground, ignoring Pelleas’s offer of a hand.
Grant nodded. “I look forward to the day when you’re ready. It’s a long climb, but I’ll be here.”
As Jamie walked away, she nodded slowly at Grant’s words. She was about to walk towards the elevator. Jamie stopped a moment next to the edge of the wall. She glared down at the side of it. She sent out Tristan who made himself into a platform in front of the wall. She was not going to take that elevator. Not today, not when she came back either. She was going to climb up herself, and then she was going to ride Tristan back down with a victory under her belt. When Jamie was certain that Grant couldn’t see her from the angle she was at, she stuck her tongue at the wall. She would beat that wall one day. Pelleas, hovered near her and tapped her on the head.
“Right, bad manners,” Jamie said as Tristan landed on the ground.
The trio waited for Lucia and Audinaga to come down on the elevator. The five left the Gym together. When they were a short distance away from the Gym, Jamie turned back and faced the entrance.
“Hey, Lucia, may I ask you a question?”
“Yeah? What’s up?”
Jamie looked back at the Gym for a while. She began to scratch her head for a moment.
“If someone has both their legs broken, how does Grant know whether or not they know what they are supposed to learn from the wall?”

IC - Chloe Hikari/Ryan Sanders/Ray Hakuda/Kyle Eston/Sonja Baron/Vertrag - Common Room, Vertrag:
Chloe groaned as she stirred next, a blanket falling down as she sat up. She was still on the couch, and it looked like at least Ray was out there too.
"Afternoon, miss sleepyhead." The orange haired man chuckled with an amused smile.
"Afternoon?!" Chloe said in alarm as she sat up, wide awake as she fumbled for her Poké Gear, which she suddenly realized was still on her dresser from the night before. With a groan, she collapsed back down onto the pillow.
"Afternoon?" Ryan looked at the time. "It's nearly evening. You were out all day, Chloe. How're you feeling?"
"A little better than yesterday…" Chloe mumbled through the pillow a bit more, then pushed herself back up. "How about everyone else? I'm sorry if I made you all worry."
"I think most of us just like, worked around you, sleeping beauty." Ray said moments before a pillow flew by his head.
"You know what I mean, smartass."
"Vertrag assured us you were physically healthy, so we thought it best to just let you rest," Ryan said. "I mean, we all took the news pretty rough, but Ryan was your brother. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel."
Chloe nodded quietly as she rubbed her arm. "It still doesn't feel real, but… we need to keep moving forward. That's what he would have wanted."
"Well, Ray and I have been going over battle strategies," Ryan said, glancing back at the orange-haired trainer. "And Emmerich seems to have the situation in Dendemille under control. Until Vertrag comes back with the locations of the other Signs, there's not much else we can do, it seems."
Chloe nodded again, but stayed quiet as she thought about the conversation from the night before - which she might have chalked up to a dream if she hadn't woken up on the couch.
"Say, do you think Colleen and the others are busy? I had a curious question for Colleen, or even Jared, but I don't wanna bug them and I don't even think I have Colleen's number…" Chloe hoped she had managed to keep her question vague enough that she wouldn't be asked about the why - as much as she wanted answers, she also didn't want to worry her friends, especially since she had zero leads about what it could mean at the moment.
"They're in the middle of their investigation or whatever, so we probably shouldn't bother them unless it's an emergency," Ryan said. "What did you want to ask them, anyway?"
"Oh, um, nothing really, just ran across something that uh . . ." Chloe bit her lip as she tried to quickly come up with an excuse. "Something that apparently links psychic abilities and aura abilities in some fashion, so I thought it might be an important thing to um, trade notes."
"Right." Chloe wasn't sure if Ryan entirely believed her, but he didn't bother to press the matter. She was antsy to get answers to something that no-one else knew about, but remained patient enough to not immediately pick up the phone and call.
She distracted herself by getting something to eat -- there was still plenty of leftover stir fry and after sleeping for most of the day she was incredibly hungry. A few hours later, as Chloe was finally about to cave in and call, her Poké Gear began to beep, signaling a voice message from Olivia. With a smile, she decided to open that first. However, her smile turned into a look of pure confusion as she listened to the increasingly foreboding message.
"Things around here are headin' sideways, and . . . I'm pretty worried." The color drained from Chloe's face as Olivia described the situation with Team Flare. She could practically hear the girl's forced smile as she feigned optimism. "We'll be fine--that's what you an' I an' the others do, we get through these things."
For the second time in roughly twenty-four hours, Chloe let her Poké Gear slip from her hand and dangle by the wrist strap. No... please no...
With renewed vigor she grabbed the device and dialed Olivia's number. Her heart beat faster and faster with each ring. When she got sent to voicemail she practically threw her Poké Gear down on the couch in frustration.
Ryan looked up in surprise. "Something the matter?"
"Bad message from Olivia…" Chloe said as she glanced over at Ryan. She eyed the device in his hand for a good few seconds as she considered things. With faster speed than expected, she lunged forward and grabbed the phone and began to flip through the contacts on it.
"Hey!" Ryan cried. "What are you doing?"
Chloe ignored him. When she found the contact for Colleen, she quickly dialed it. A couple rings later, the aura wielder picked up - before she had a chance to say hello, Chloe practically yelled into the device.
"Hi, Colleen? What the hell's going on over with y'all??? Olivia just sent this weird message, and--"
“Chloe?” From the tone of her voice alone, it wasn’t clear whether Colleen was more surprised by the sudden call, the fact that it was Chloe’s voice rather than Ryan’s, or the realization that this was the first that she had heard from the agents in ‘Silver Team’ since they had departed in Johto. As the lattermost realization hit her, however, she took a sudden breath. “Chloe! We hadn’t heard from you guys, so I guess--no one’s been keeping contact with you?”
She proceeded to give a rundown of the situation--the suspicious Flare activity they had initially uncovered, the suitcase they had discovered in Cyllage, what they had found in the abandoned lab, and finally the evidence that they had uncovered about what was to come and the subsequent decision to split up.
“. . . so Zoe and I are about to head out to Anistar with some of Serena and Calem’s acquaintances,” she said. “I’m not sure about everyone else, but . . . Chloe, there was a long list of targets. And I’m honestly not sure we’ve got the manpower to cover all of them.”
Chloe stayed quiet as she took all of the information in. "How bad is it?" She asked with a grim look on her face. "Like… how long a list?"
"Wait a second." Ryan leaned over Chloe's shoulder to listen to Colleen's report. "Did you just say Zoe was with you?"
After an awkward silence, Colleen sighed. “It’s a long story, Ryan.” There was another pause. “Well, let’s see . . .” She listed off the names and locations she could remember. “It sounded like a lot of it was centered in Lumiose City--that’s where most of the group was headed, I think.”
Chloe held her breath for a tense moment. "Is that where Olivia went?"
“I . . . I think so?” Colleen said. “I’m sorry, Chloe, I really don’t know about what’s happening on their end. I’ve been busy trying to figure out how Zoe and I are supposed to handle a group targeting Olympia by ourselves.”
"Do you need backup?" Ryan asked. "We're actually in Dendemille right now -- long story -- and I think that's not too far from Anistar? Plus, remember those Pokémon that got their powers back on One Island? The same thing happened to a few of ours, so we've got some extra firepower on our side."
"You can go to Anistar if you want," Chloe said, her eyes brimming with grim tenacity. "I'm going to Lumiose to help Liv."
Ryan gave her a hard look. "Listen, Chloe. Colleen isn't even sure that's where Olivia went, and even if she is there, Lumiose is a huge city. How would you expect to find her?"
"She'll be fighting Flare, right?" Chloe countered. "I'll just look for where the fighting is. I can't--" Her words caught in her throat. She took a deep breath before continuing through gritted teeth. "I won't lose someone else I care about."
“Um . . .” Colleen could tell that there was some aspect of the conversation that she was missing, but she did not pry for information. “We do have these two . . . I think Serena called them Sky Trainers? So, I mean, we’re not alone-alone. And I was going to make a stop by my aunts' house before we go to the gym--Lucina, my mentor, is there, and I think she’d be able to help. So I won’t say ‘Yes, I need back-up,’ but I won’t say ‘No,’ either. If that makes sense. It should work out, either way.”
Ray stayed quiet for a few moments, having walked in at the sound of arguing. "Something big's happening, right? I'll go get Kyle and Sonja. If we need to go somewhere, it's probably a good idea to get their thoughts on the matter too." Without waiting for an answer, the orange-haired trainer quickly sprinted off out of the room.
While Ray was out of the room, Chloe crossed her arms in thought. "Well, Ally can teleport again, so, what if she brought backup to you, Colleen?"
"But, I'd need help somehow. I've never been to anywhere but where we've been the past few days." Ally pointed out with a frown as she wondered where this was going.
"Exactly." Chloe said with a grin as she quickly muted the speakerphone. "Vertrag, I know we've been asking a lot of you recently, but can you help out with teleport coordinates?"
“You’ve got a working teleporter?” Colleen exclaimed, but received no answer as the spectral Jirachi appeared in front of Chloe and Ryan.
Providing coordinates is well within my capabilities, Vertrag answered. Simply tell me where you wish to go.
“That’s . . . I can’t even begin to tell you how great that is,” Colleen continued as Chloe unmuted the device, simultaneously giving a gesture for Vertrag to remain quiet. “Honestly--I wasn’t looking forward to spending however many hours flying across the region in the dark, anyway.”
"Excellent." Ryan wasn't looking forward to teleporting twice in a row, but it didn't look like there was any other option. "Alright, where are you right now, Colleen?"
“I’m in Geosenge right now,” she said. As she said it, the Jirachi’s eyes twinkled, sensors tracking down the coordinates of Colleen’s communicator. These popped up on Chloe's (or rather, Ryan’s) screen.
Ryan nodded his thanks to Vertrag. "Alright, hang tight, Colleen. I'll be there shortly, along with anyone else that wants to come with."
“I’ll see you all soon, then.”
The call ended just as Ray, Kyle, and Sonja barrelled through the door, all three winded from having run up from the arena. Sonja looked between Ryan and Chloe as they moved to gather their things. “What’s up? Is everyone okay?”
"The group investigating this 'Team Flare' ran into some trouble," Ryan said as he pocketed his Poké Gear. "It sounds like most of them are maybe headed to Lumiose, but Colleen and her little sister Zoe are headed to Anistar. Something about Flare launching a mass assault on a bunch of famous or powerful Kalos trainers. I was planning to help out in Anistar, and Chloe --" he glanced over at the psychic girl and gave a small sigh of defeat. "Chloe's going to help out Olivia in Lumiose. Maybe splitting up isn't such a good idea, but it sounds like the other group might be a little in over their heads."
“That’s . . .” Kyle looked helplessly between everyone. “I mean, we should go help, but there’s no way we can get to either of those places in time, right?”
"As a matter of fact," Chloe said with a grin.
We can. Ally stood next to Chloe, matching her trainer's smile.
"Vertrag was able to trace Colleen's call," Ryan explained. "That will allow Ally to teleport us to her location."
Kyle looked very surprised for a moment. “You know,” he said. “In all the chaos and hopelessness and getting attacked left and right and having to rely on a weird, extradimensional base to get us around, it did not once occur to me that we had one of the few functional Psychic-Types in the world around. Where do you need me to go?”
Ryan glanced at Chloe. "Well, it sounds like Colleen might be the most in need of backup, but it also sounds like most of the action is going down in Lumiose. Your choice, really."
“Alright, I guess I’ll . . . go with Ryan?” Kyle said, very clearly picking an option out of the air. “Sonja, you wanna go with Chloe?”
“Well . . .” Sonja looked hesitant, but she steeled herself and went for it. “Don’t take this the wrong way, guys, but I would rather stay here and keep an eye on the situation with the Signs. I don’t doubt that Flare is dangerous, but literally none of this will matter if we don’t stay on top of Missing Zero. And right now, the Signs are the only lead we have on that.”
Chloe and Ray both nodded at that, and Ray grinned. "Sounds good. I'll help out little miss hothead here, keep her from getting herself killed while hyperfocused." Ray chuckled with a wink. "Though, it'd be nice if like, people here could keep an eye on what was going on…"
“Well, luckily Ford set up a command center with an all-powerful AI,” Sonja said. “I’ll help you out, don’t worry. Once Emmerich gets back, I’ll get him set up to help, too.” Vertrag appeared next to her. “If that’s something you can do?”
Easily, Vertrag said. Many of Kalos’s cities are monitored by vast camera systems. Tapping into those would be, as they say, child’s play.
“Good,” Sonja said. “So we can help monitor and direct you guys from here.”
"Well, I can't argue with that," Ryan said, looking at each of the members of Vorhut in turn. "With eyes all around, we should have this little Flare uprising taken care of in no time. Hopefully by then Vertrag will have a lead on the Signs and we'll be able to get back to the task at hand. Until then, be safe, everyone."

IC: Ryan Sanders/Kyle Eston/Ally/Colleen Llyan/Zoe Llyan/Moira/Yvette - Cottage, Geosenge CityFor all her excitement about the upcoming mission, Zoe was particularly careful while packing. She was keenly aware that she was in a scattered state of mind, and so to ensure she didn't accidentally forget anything she became hyperfocused on making sure everything was in order. After checking the contents of her bag for the umpteenth time and making a final adjustment to her hair, the younger Llyan emerged into the cottage's living room to announce she was ready to go. The air around her crackled with unexplained energy, and suddenly two men and a half-shiny looking Gallade appeared directly in front of her. Zoe jumped in surprise -- that is to say, her ninja-like reflexes prompted her to stumble several steps backwards in a seemingly uncontrolled fashion to trick her enemies into thinking she'd been scared. The high-pitched shriek she emitted only added to the facade. One of the men, sporting a grey shirt, immediately stumbled into the back of the couch and keeled over. "Ugh, I've been spoiled by our first-class teleportation. This is what it feels like to go back to flying coach." The man was given a glare by the Gallade, as if he were being told something privately. Although she remained flattened against the wall she had stumbled into, Zoe found herself drawn to the newcomer. His familiarity was as striking as it was impossible. "Ryan . . . ?" she asked hesitantly. When the man turned to look her way, Zoe's eyes lit up and she ran forward to embrace him. "It is you! What are you doing here?" Before Ryan could answer, Zoe had turned to face the other man. Her face contorted into some strange combination of a smile of recognition and the wrinkled brow of trying to remember an important detail. Her silence had just started to grow uncomfortable when she spoke up with the same enthusiasm she'd offered Ryan. "You're here, too! That's great!" “Sooo are you!” Kyle exclaimed, doing his best to match Zoe’s energy. The result was as awkward as expected, particularly since it was obvious that--like Zoe toward him--he recognized, but could not name her. After an awkward pause, he looked around. “Where’s your sister? We heard there were some jerks you guys needed help knocking over.” “I’m right here,” Colleen answered as she stepped back into the room. She was trailed by two older trainers, whom she quickly introduced as Moira and Yvette. “So, ladies, as I mentioned outside, we’ve got a change of plan--a friend of mine has a working teleporter. We’re still going to Anistar, but faster.” At that, Ally bowed with a smile. "Pleased to be your taxi today." The Gallade said with a hint of a chuckle in her mental voice. "Just give the word when we're leaving."Kyle slapped a hand on Ryan’s shoulder. “I’ll let you decide when you’re ready.” “Is he okay?” Moira asked. “Yeah. Teleportation sickness.” Kyle shook his head. “Still don’t know how he’s not used to it.” He paused. “It’s been a while, I kind of understand how he’s not used to it. But still.” "Hey, I resent that." Ryan waved Kyle off as he took a deep breath. "I'll be fine. Let's just get this over with." "Wait, one second!" Zoe dug through her bag to find the Go-Goggles the Hero of Space had given her. Once she had affixed them over her eyes, she turned back to the group. "Now I'm ready." The group of six trainers gathered closer together, allowing Ally to envelop them in a psychic field. It took only a moment for the Gallade to scan through Colleen’s mind, locking on to Anistar City. An instant later, the world had dissolved around them, and they found themselves standing on the quiet street in front of a modest, single-story house. Some of the lights were on, large blocks of yellow that shone out from the front of the house, cutting through the encroaching night around them. So, luckily, someone was home. As Ally bid the group farewell and teleported back to Chloe, Colleen zipped her coat. “I forgot how close this place is to the mountains,” she said. “Alright, well, this shouldn’t take too long.” She started toward the door, briefly closing her eyes. Several auras fluttered in the dark, outlining the occupants within the house. When she reached the door, she opened her eyes again and knocked. After a few moments, the door to the house opened. The woman who opened the door wore a confused expression, which only deepened as she saw that Colleen and Zoe were there, alongside a bunch of strangers she had never met before. "Colette? Zoe? What are you two doing here? And who are those people?" The woman asked with a frown as she glanced back inside for a moment. "Alice, you're gonna want to see this. You too, Lucina." * * * It took some time to explain the situation to Alice and Charlotte, even cutting down on details that they didn’t need to know. To their credit, the pair seemed disturbed, but not necessarily surprised--something that Colleen picked up on even without relying on her aura. She frowned, looking between the two women and Lucina. “You didn’t already know about this, did you?” she asked. Charlotte chewed on her lip for a couple moments, then nodded. "There's been rumours of people in the old costumes being spotted around, which has put the police on guard and made them issue a warning for people who… aren't combatants to stay inside." She turned her eyes directly to Zoe at that. "They don't seem to be taking action just yet, but… from what you're saying, it's a good idea to keep people who can't fight away from what's about to go down." Zoe met her aunt's gaze with what she imagined to be a look of grim determination. "You're right, the two of you should probably stay here. We'll take care of the bad guys for you. After all, that's what heroes do. Collie's been training her whole life for this very moment!" An uncomfortable silence filled the room. Ryan opened his mouth to say something but kept quiet, instead looking over to Colleen. Zoe was her sister, so she would be the most knowledgeable about the young girl's fighting experience. The Aura Wielder rubbed the bridge of her nose before nodding at her aunt. "Okay; it's good to know that the police are at least on alert," she said. "Zoe's right that you should stay here--it'll keep you out of the line of fire. If it's okay, we'll take Lucina with us--we could use the help. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that the more people we have on our side, the better we can be at keeping an eye on each other." She gave a subtle nod in Zoe's direction, about the clearest she could do to address the fact that her younger sister would be coming with them to the Anistar Gym. If there was any real lesson she had learned, it was that Zoe would find a way to follow her no matter what--her hitching a ride on the plane to Kalos proved as much. She would rather keep her close and know where the younger girl was in the middle of a fight than risk her sneaking out after them. Alice frowned as she looked at Colleen with a subtly raised eyebrow. However, Lucina placed her hand on the woman's shoulder and shook her head slightly. With a sigh, Alice nodded. "Alright. Make sure that you all do just that though. I don't know how much everyone here knows about Flare, but… they aren't to be trifled with. So be careful, all of you." "Yeah, that's what we keep hearing," Zoe said, crossing her arms. "Flare this, Flare that; everybody and their mother thinks Flare's some huge deal or something. What have we seen so far? Something about a suitcase and some whacked out science experiment. Not exactly what I'd call an extinction-level event." The girl flashed a grin at her aunt. "Don't worry, Aunt Alice. We won't trifle with Flare, we'll trample them!" With only Xander's story to go off of, Ryan honestly didn't know much about what kind of group they were dealing with. Still, Zoe seemed a little too excited compared to what Colleen had told him earlier. "Listen, Zoe. My friends and I just fought off a bunch of people in Dendemille, and if I've learned one thing, you should never underestimate your enemy. We won't trifle with them, but we should still be on our guard." "Of course we will." Zoe turned her unassuming smile on him. It was the smile of a child still playing pretend with her friends. "Collie and I could've handled it ourselves, but with you and . . ." She hesitated as she glanced over at Kyle. "With you and your friend here, we'll be unstoppable." “It’s Kyle, Zoe,” Kyle said. “At any rate, regardless of whether we’re trifling or trampling, we should get going--they might have already gone after the Gym, but if not, we can lay an ambush for them.” He pulled Jaeda’s Poké Ball from his belt. “Ryan and I can take point on the way there.” “Sounds good,” Colleen said. “Zoe, you’re going to stay by me, okay? And Moira and Yvette, can you two take up the rear guard?” The Sky Trainers nodded. Colleen rose to her feet, hugging her aunts and beginning toward the door. “Let’s go, then.” * * * True to her word, Zoe stuck by her sister's side as the group made their way down to the Anistar Gym. The police warning seemed to have done its job, for the city seemed largely quiet in the dark hours of the night. Between the ocean breeze and the mountain air, one might almost forget it was the middle of summer. The cool temperatures combined with the group's grim atmosphere were enough to make Zoe reach out and grip her sister's hand -- not because she was cold or scared or anything, she just . . . didn't want to get lost in the darkness. The city's famous sundial formed a large black shadow on the horizon. Rather than marking time, the enormous structure instead marked the group's vicinity to the gym. "Collie?" Zoe whispered as they approached the gym. She glanced around to make sure the others were out of earshot before continuing. "Are you scared?" Colleen looked at Zoe, surprised. She did not immediately answer, instead mulling over the question for a moment while she glanced about the streets, scanning the quiet, shadowy alleyways for any threatening Auras. “A little bit,” she admitted. “I was more scared when I thought it would just be you and me dealing with this. But we have Ryan, Kyle, Moira, and Yvette helping us now, so . . . I’m less scared than I was.” She turned her head back to Zoe, giving a playful, though sincerely concerned smile. “Why? Are you?” If Colleen hadn't been looking right at Zoe she would have missed the girl's small nod. "Everyone else just seems so worried," she said in a hushed voice. "I don't want this to end up like one of your other missions in the Sevii Islands . . ." “Well . . .” She looked around at the others. “I’m not sure how much of that is because of Flare. I don’t know if we ever told you--or if you heard on the plane--” Colleen gave her sister a pointed look. “--but Ryan and Kyle were on a different mission than us before now. And it sounded like something pretty serious happened when they were in Dendemille. It’s probably still on their minds. And Aunt Charlotte and Aunt Alice . . . Well, they lived through the last time Flare was running around; they probably have some bad memories.” Colleen squeezed Zoe’s hand. “But just stay near me, okay? Lucina and I won’t let anything happen to you--or anyone else.” “Is that the gym?” They had reached a large, immaculate building. It was circular in shape with a rounded roof, dotted regularly with windows and spires. Large, golden structures supported by golden pillars arched over the building at an angle, three of them working in tandem to create a sort of modern art piece. A large metal ring, also gold, rose from either side of the roof, the center openings angled toward the sky. Above the doorway was a sign that looked like it would normally be lit up. At the moment, perhaps because of the hour, it was turned off. Peering at it revealed that this was, in fact, the Anistar Gym. Kyle bounced a Poké Ball in his hand, and then sent out Jaeda. The Charizard’s tail lit up the darkness for several feet around them. Quil emerged next to him. Although the Typhlosion chose not to ignite the flames on his back, patches of fur along his neck glowed in the darkness as a result of his stored firepower. Kyle looked back at the group. “Seems pretty quiet, but we shouldn’t get complacent just yet.” Colleen nodded. “I’ll be scanning on the way in,” she said, already extending her senses for any outliers in the area. She squeezed Zoe’s hand again, and with her other hand, gripped Kammy’s Poké Ball. “If there are any enemies in there, they won’t get the jump on us.” Zoe held Merida's Pokéball in her hand as she looked up at her sister. Whatever happened next, there was no turning back.

IC: Evan Tierra Vs. Jenny Hakuda
With that, Scizlite felt as if the shackles had been released from her. The Scizor grinned as she rushed forward as well, a glint of power in her eyes as she shot her fist forward to try and punch with all her might.
While that was going on, Gyaralite roared out as she zoomed forward. Although the icy breath slowed her down, she didn't feel as hurt as she usually would after such an attack. Deciding to not worry about that too much for the moment, she instead tried to use her teeth to Crunch down on Monstro before there could be any more damage.
Jenny grinned, even as she watched Lurelite dodge around Vlad's strikes. "Keep it up, you can do it, everyone!"
Vlad attempted to hit the nimble Eelektross with his pincers but to no avail. He decided to lash out with his tail, as he saw Lazengann rush towards his opponent.
Monstro felt the fangs sink into his neck, and it hurt, it allowed the muscular Mud Fish to attack Gyaralite head on, with a Hammer Arm to the noggin.
Sandlite saw the two ponderous Pokémon charging at her, and mischievously grinned as she did a spinning leap back, and snapped her tail at Behemoth's foot, causing the Ice-Type to not only lose his footing, but to crash into the alarmed Hippowdon near him, taking the two out of the fight.
Gnip rushed forward, breathing a cloud of flame as rainbow sand glistened and gleamed around the two amped up Pokémon. She didn't aim at Scizlite, as she wanted to be sure she wasn't dreaming. She had her power back, and then some. It was then she felt the full impact of Scizlite's fist hit her, filling her with exhilaration as this was definitely reality. Roaring, the Garchomp slashed with her massive claw, aiming to test -her- newfound might.
Lurelite was caught off guard by the attack and fell to Vlad's attack. Meanwhile, Eelite and Lazengann both rushed toward each other and punched each other in the face, falling over instantly afterward. While Vlad watched on, Sandlite leaped up into the air, fist pulled back in preparation for a sneak attack on the Flying-type.
The Gyarados was caught off guard by the Hammer Arm, and even moreso as it dealt a lot more damage than she expected. With a groan, Gyaralite attempted to strike out once more, then fell flat on the ground as the transformation dissipated.
Scizlite raised a gauntlet to try to block the strike, but it was definitely a lot stronger than it had been in the past, so the bug struggled to stay guarded under the blow. She took the opportunity to try another Bullet Punch on her opponent quickly.
Vlad didn’t see the punch coming as it made impact, knocking the Fang Scorp gracefully out of the air. Oh, you’ll pay for this, Croc. Vlad thought as he fell. Monstro, upon seeing this, rushed ,as much as he could with how heavy he was, aiming to slam the Krookodile with a Hammer Arm.
Gnip took the attack, and flew back a ways, panting. The damage Scizlite had done to her earlier had definitely taken its toll on the Garchomp. Growling, she looked back at her master, who was grinning like a madman. “Time to get this done!” The man said showily. “Gnip, Heaven and Earth!” The Mach Pokémon took a deep breath, and released a roar loud enough to make the skies tremble and the earth shake. Draco Meteors fell from the sky as he ground shook with a magnitude unlike any the Shooting Star Dragon had done before.
The Krookodile turned in surprise as the Swampert rushed toward her. A minute later, she started to get out of the way. The attack itself happened a lot quicker than she expected, but the Krookodile quickly tried to take advantage of the moment of missing to swing her tail into the Swampert.
Scizlite felt off balance as she was pushed by by the sheer force of the earth shaking roar; she felt as if parts of her armour had cracked with the force, but now wasn't the time to worry about that. She raised her arms as the comets landed and embedded themselves in the ground, a precursor to another larger attack from what she could tell.
Monstro felt Sandlite’s tail slam into him, knocking the air out of him. The Mud Fish fell to the ground, and looked at his opponent, and grinned as he lost consciousness and his muscular form faded away, revealing his original self.
Gnip, upon seeing her last team member collapse, growled, and began to roar once more, summoning up another Earthquake towards the two remaining foes. The odds were definitely against the Dragon-Type, but to the last, she’d fight!
Seeing that something was up, Scizlite glanced around the field to find a safe place to stay. With a grin, she beckoned to Sandlite, who began to hurry over to one of the fallen comets. With a satisfied grin, the two of Jenny’s Pokémon stood triumphantly behind the cracked meteor.
... Cracked? Scizlite thought, as her eyes began to widen. The meteor shattered to pieces, as she thought she saw a smug look on Gnip's face for a brief moment before a powerful earthquake struck both of the opponents, sending them to the ground in an unconscious daze.
Roaring as rainbow light enshrouded her, Gnip was returned to her original form, and immediately fell to one knee. “Good job, Gnip!” The man said happily as he returned his Pokémon to their Poké Balls, before looking at Jenny. ”Good match, Jen-Jen!” It was then that the Hero of Space felt a little dizzy, requiring him to sit down to get his bearings. “Phew, that…..took a lot out of me….”
Jenny panted with a giggle as she felt a little light-headed herself. "Good match yourself! I didn't expect most of those tricks at the end!"
As the two chatted, a frantic nurse ran up to the two of them. "What just happened here?! Do you see what you did to the lawn?! Were those powers being used?! What were those Pokémon?!"
Jenny leaned close to Evan with a nervous chuckle. "Whoops."
Evan grinned. “A battle, hell yes, oh hell yes, and….” The man said as he stood up and shakily posed. “OUR SHINING STARS!” The Plasma Agent then broke his pose and spoke in a more formal tone. “Yeah, I know it’s gonna be hard, but……..could you….keep this under wraps, Nurse? I’d rather not have people coming after us about this.”
The nurse nodded with a forced smile, but pointed behind the two of them. Jenny glanced back to see a veritable horde of people with Poké Gear and the like held up, some Vs. Recorders in the crowd as well.
"As you can see, that could be a little tough." The nurse said, then stared past the two of them to the lawn. "My poor lawn… it had finally started to recover from the last battle…"
As Evan saw the sheer amount of people looking at him and Jenny, he couldn’t help but pose for them. If there wasn’t a chance of this being covered up, he’d at least make a spectacle of it! “I apologize about the lawn, I’ll reimburse you for it. Hopefully, that sits with you just fine?” The Hero then looked at Jenny. “See that, babe? We’re badasses.”
"Yeah!" Jenny said cheerfully amidst the poor nurse's mumbles, as she posed dynamically.

-==IC: Chloe Hikari/Ray Hakuda -- Vertrag==-
Once Ally returned and Vertrag had given co-ordinates to Lumiose City, the duo gave a quick goodbye to Sonja and teleported without delay. Once they arrived, Chloe looked around where they had arrived near the Magenta Plaza's Pokémon Center.
"So, where are we going to look? This is a big city, after all." Ray asked with a frown as he crossed his arms. "Olivia could be anywhere, right? So like, where do we start?"
"Well, I mean, you heard what Colleen said - look for the fighting!" Chloe looked around as she frowned, leaning forward around the corner as she looked for literally any sign of fighting at all. Moments passed as the two were given very odd looks from passersby. Ray tapped his foot on the ground impatiently as he looked around himself.
"So, I'm seeing an issue here," Ray started, as he raised an eyebrow. "I don't see any fighting at all. What if Olivia isn't here yet? Where would we start now?"
Chloe bit her lip as she looked around for a few moments, thinking about that. She dug out her Pokégear to check the map of Lumiose City quickly. "Well... apparently there's a path down at the bottom of the city that leads from Camphrier; I think Colleen mentioned they were coming from that way, so we might as well check there first?" She glanced up from the device to look down the Centrico Plaza. "If I'm reading this right, then... we should check down this way." The girl pointed toward the avenue between two of the big plazas. Ray frowned in uncertainty, but nodded.
"If that leads toward Camphrier, then I guess that's our best bet to check first." The orange-haired trainer gave a shrug as he walked forward. He was tempted to check in with Sonja already, but figured that she wouldn't be able to find the redhead in the haystack this quickly either. What if she went somewhere else, though? Ray couldn't help but worry about that, but Chloe had already taken off down the street.
As the two trainers made their way down the street, they noticed some people in bright red coats hanging out toward the building for Lumiose Press. Ray frowned slightly as he nudged Chloe. "Hey, hasn't it be mentioned that Flare really really likes gaudy clothes?" He asked in a super hushed tone, as the two focused on the group of four loiterers for a few seconds. Two of them were keeping watch over the city streets, one was peering into a window, and one had currently decided to kick the door before he realized that kicking a steel door was a very very bad idea.
"They definitely aren't making this subtle either. Are we sure it could be that easy? They don't seem that threatening either." Chloe raised an eyebrow with a frown. The two watching the street nudged the person who was peering in the window, as they all eyed Chloe and Ray.
"What are you looking at?" One of the two women asked as she walked toward the two of them. Ally eyed the woman with a frown. "You got a problem with us, punks? Are you two even from Kalos? You should just go home. You aren't welcome in Lumiose."
"I wouldn't call us punks unless you have a way to back it up." Ally warned as she took a step forward. Chloe held out a hand to Ally as she realized that showing their hand this quickly might not have been a good idea. It had worked to intimidate the woman, however. The red-coated woman took a step back with a horrified look.
"You're a Gallade. Who has powers." The woman looked back as the man kicked the door in frustration again. "We have to get back to the boss, y'all. We've been made, and these people have powers."
"Powers?" The man finally had his attention caught and looked up in surprise and horror. "Gianna, this is a horrible joke." When he saw the Gallade summoning a sword, however, he changed his mind. "Shit. I knew wearing the uniform was a bad idea, drew too much attention."
"Come on Charlie, let's get out of here now." Gianna grabbed the man's shoulder, as the four of them ran toward the Centrico Plaza again, sending out a Liepard in the process to slam into Ally to buy time for them to get past Chloe and Ray.
With a grunt as the woman shoved Chloe and Ray to the side, knocking off any concentration they might have had in the first place, Ray scowled. "Well, it might not be fighting, but we definitely found the Flare people we were looking for. Come on, Chloe, we might find Olivia this way." With a nod from the psychic girl, the two took off running, back toward the Magenta Plaza.

---League---
Serena and Calem were an effective duo in distracting one of the Charizard. As Ches made for a tempting target for a Flamethrower, while Serena's Absol came up to strike at it from behind. Elaine was stunned, trying to understand why Malva was attacking them, why they were attacking Malva, why...
The Houndoom growled as Alex's Absol swung its scythe. The attack was unpowered, but it could still hurt. With an order from Malva, the Mega Evolved creature of fire and darkness released a great swirling Inferno at its newfound opponent.
The Empoleon's horns dug into the Charizard's stomach, and the fiery lizard responded by attempting to grab the Emperor and give it a good Seismic Toss.
The Gallade surged forward, knowing that the biggest threat was the powered Swampert at the front of the room. It was intercepted, however, by one of its own kind and an Arcanine. Inigo threw a punch, and the Gallade side-stepped, only to be bowled over by the mass of Shere Khan, leaving it prone.
Emily took a deep breath, glancing around. She got Ronin's attention and pointed. The Scyther gave her a puzzled look, but she nodded firmly, certain of her choice. "I know you don't have any attacks, but just... distract it."
The Scyther nodded and zipped forward. Scythe blades flashed as it lunged from the side towards Swampert.
OOC: Charizard "A" - Seismic Toss -> Empoleon Charizard "B" - Flamethrower -> Chesnaught Houndoom - Inferno -> Absol Inigo and Shere Khan - Double Team -> Enemy Gallade Ronin - Scythe Blades -> Swampert
Anistar Gym
As Colleen led the way into the gym, she was acutely aware of five human auras in the gym's arena. One of them was a deep blue color that seemed similar to Chloe's or Xander's, though it held power greater than theirs. The others all were iridescent, glowing with rainbow light and seeming to sparkle in her aura vision.
As the group entered the Arena proper, they were greeted by the sight of Olympia, Anistar's gym leader, facing down three Team Flare agents in uniform, and a young woman wearing plain clothes. In front of Olympia was a Sigilyph. In front of the Flare agents (and... random girl?) were arrayed a Monferno, Flareon, a Sneasel, and a Medicham.
The Monferno and Sneasel also had the rainbow aura surrounding them in place of anything normal. As Colleen, Ryan, Zoe, and Kyle entered the chamber, Olympia's mouth quirked up in a smile. "I did warn you all: If you choose to fight with me, I won't be alone."
The girl's face twisted in a snarl. "Even when we've just threatened your life, you can't drop the stupid haiku for three seconds? Guys, deal with them! I've got Olympia."
Three Flare agents sent their Pokémon towards the group, all but the Medicham rising to challenge the new arrivals.

IC: Alex Lockwood - Kalos Pokémon League Absol could tell the Inferno was intended to ward off his oncoming attack. In a more casual battle he might have rolled to change his trajectory and avoid the flames. But the Disaster Pokémon knew he couldn't afford to take Team Flare lightly. And so he steeled himself as the fire engulfed him. Even as the putrid smell of burnt fur filled the air, Absol never wavered. With a defiant scream, he prepared to bury his scythe in his opponent.
Empoleon's stomach lurched as he found himself suddenly suplexed by a winged lizard. The attack didn't hurt the bulky penguin too much -- at least not physically. Getting bested by a Pokémon he should have had a type advantage against scored a critical hit to his pride, and he was not about to let it happen again. Laying where he had been unceremoniously dumped at the Charizard's feet, Empoleon let out a shrill screech as he swung a razor-sharp wing at the Charizard's stomach. His wings could easily cleave through an ice floe, so he figured a soft belly would be no problem, especially after his previous horn attack.
As this was going on, Swampert prepared a Mud Bomb to hurl at the extra-spiky Houndoom. The half-formed ball splattered to the ground prematurely as something sharp cut into Swampert's side. He raised a massive arm to slap whoever dared attack him, then paused as he saw it was Ronin. He looked over at Alex, questioning whether or not he should attack.
For as much as he wanted to remain focused on directing his Pokémon, Alex tore his eyes away from the battlefield and turned to face his cousin. "Watch it, Em!" he cried. "We can't afford to make mistakes here!"
OOC: Absol (burned): Now the hundred-pound cat is flying through the fire and flames, with its grim reaper scythe ready to impale -> Mega Houndoom Empoleon (pissed): "If anyone were to hurt its pride, it would slash them with wings that can cleave through an ice floe" --Platinum Pokédex Entry -> Charizard A Swampert: Half-Mud Bomb (failed) -> floor; Poised to slap (waiting for Alex's confirmation) -> Ronin
IC: Ryan Sanders/Zoe Llyan/Yvette - Anistar Gym, Anistar City "Alright, Zoe." The girl took a deep breath as she affixed her Go-Goggles on her forehead. "Time to show them what you're made of." As the three Pokémon charged toward them, Zoe hurled Merida's Pokéball into the fray. "I call the Monkey Metronome!" she cried.
The Meditite materialized about halfway between her companions and the enemy Pokémon. As her opponents drew closer, she backflipped into the air to land on the Monferno's head. Without any psychic powers to rely on, Merida could only punch the monkey's noggin, but that was more than enough for Zoe.
"That's right, dance on its head!" Zoe's previous anxiety seemed to melt away as she cheered her Pokémon on, yet she couldn't hide the worried look that creased her face. "If you win this, our bard friend will personally write us a song!"
It took Ryan a moment to register what had just happened -- he hadn't expected Zoe of all people to make the first move. Shaking his head, he tossed a Pokéball into the air. "Quil, back her up!" The Typhlosion took one look at the Monferno-Meditite tower and failed to hold back a snicker. Ryan gave him a sharp nudge. "I'm serious, she's got two more Pokémon headed her way!"
Quil glanced between the Flareon and the Sneasel. Choosing the latter, he ran towards the ice-type with a roar. He waited until the Sneasel was right on top of him before spewing out a Flamethrower at the Sharp Claw Pokémon.
With two of the three Flare Pokémon taken care of, Yvette sent out her Staraptor. Taking hold of her Pokémon's talons, the Sky Trainer soared across the arena. At the apex of their flight Yvette let go of her Staraptor and began gilding down towards Olympia. "Don't worry, ma'am!" she called out from the air. "You're in good hands."
OOC: Merida: Super Noogie Attack -> Monferno Quil: Flamethrower -> Sneasel Yvette/Staraptor: Flying towards Olympia

IC - Kyle Eston (Jaeda)/Colleen Llyan (Lucina)/Moira (Talonflame) - Anistar Gym, Anistar City:
As her team moved into action--Ryan and Zoe leading the attack, Yvette hurrying toward Olympia, and Moira taking off on Talonflame's back to keep an eye on the situation from the air--Colleen focused more intently on the Auras surrounding their opponents. She snapped her eyes open, placing a hand on Zoe's shoulder and forcing the younger girl behind her. Kyle glanced over at the movement, raising an eyebrow.
Raising a hand, Colleen pointed to the specific individuals of concern--the Sneasel, the Monferno, all three Flare trainers, and the woman assisting them. "Be careful of those ones," Colleen said. "Something's not right with their Auras."
"I'll keep that in mind," Kyle said with a nod. He hopped on Jaeda's back. "Tailwind, Jaeda!" The Charizard kicked off from the ground, flapping her wings and summoning a torrent of wind that boosted her and her allies' speed. Under her trainer's guidance, they flew toward Olympia, dipping down from the air to land between her and the younger woman.
Meanwhile, Colleen tossed Kammy's Poké Ball forward. The Blastoise deployed her cannons with a threatening, near-mechanical thud as she rose to her full height. "Kammy, take out that Flareon," Colleen ordered. With a thunderous roar, the Water-Type charged forward, her speed likewise boosted from the Tailwind, and aimed to shoulder-check the smaller Fire-Type. As this happened, the Liberty Agent herself focused on Olympia's attackers, swiping a hand through the air and releasing half a dozen smaller, less-powerful but equally-accurate Aura Spheres at the Flare trainers themselves.
OOC: Moira/Talonflame: Aerial surveillance; Speed^ Kyle/Jaeda: Tailwind, Speed^; flying toward Olympia Kammy: Speed^; Shoulder check > Flareon Colleen: Aura Cluster > Flare Agents

IC: Lohe Mahina - Lumiose City
Lohe was sitting in a cafe in front of a full cup of freshly made hot coffee. He waved one hand above the steaming cup of coffee, allowing the smell to drift towards his nose. With the other, he held the cup, enjoying the warmth it brought him. He was content to stay like this for a while, until his superiors came to drag him back to reality.
Unfortunately, reality had other plans.
First, some guy jumped through a window, sending glass flying, and dropping to the streets below. He gets right back up and continues running past the cafe he was in. Then some other guy jumps down after the first guy. Both of them were clearly not normal. But Lohe didn't have any jurisdiction here. Lohe was half-tempted to say 'not his problem', when he heard something from the second man as he ran past.
"Fucking vampire," the second man muttered quietly. He probably thought no one could hear him.
The literal vampire sitting his seat, leaned back and groaned. If there was any truth to that statement, he would be obligated to at least check it out. He would be... 'reprimanded' if there was any truth to this and he let it go by without investigating it. He left the coffee behind for a moment and walked over to the door and let his Crobat out of his ball.
"Nosferatu," Lohe said. "Could you follow those weirdos for me?" he said pointing down the alley. "You'll know when you see them."
The Crobat nodded, and with a spin started leisurely flying down the alley at high speeds. Lohe would use Ruthven to catch up with Nosferatu. He had to pay for the mug first.

---[President]--- (President’s Office, Lumiose City, Kalos, August 13th, 2017, 12:02 A.M.)
Time did not freeze.
“Forget me,” Lionel growled out, “what about Morty? I’d think he’d make a much better hostage, wouldn’t you say? You can’t carry both me and him, you know.”
Akamaro smirked. “Morte De Villepin will be fully handled, don’t you worry. In fact, if you’re so worried, why don’t the two of us go see him right now?”
Keeping his eyes on Lucia and her Meganium to ensure neither moved, Akamaro dragged his hostage back to the president’s office door.
Why? Why wasn’t it working? Jamie thought as she watched Akamaro move. She needed it to work. She began to breathe faster, with her breath becoming uneven. In frustration she yelled out, abandoning all pretense of subtlety.
“Time will freeze!” she yelled, holding her hand out towards Akamaro.
The Flare Admin finally turned his attention to Jamie. When time once again proceeded to not freeze, he raised an eyebrow and gave a condescending smirk. “Really? You believe a childish declaration will just make reality bend to your will?” He gave a derisive snort. “Grow up.”
Jamie’s mind raced. Dialga why? She couldn’t figure out how to make time stop. If she sent out Tristan to stop him, Akamaro would shoot him in the time it would take for Tristan to bridge the gap. Her eyes looked down briefly in defeat, when her eyes caught a hold of the gun. She bent down, dropped her bag and picked up the gun and pointed it at Akamaro.
“Let him go,” Jamie said, her hands visibly shaking.
Akamaro cackled. “Oh? Does the little girl want to play with the big-boy toys? Let’s see it, then.” The Flare Admin’s eyes glittered menacingly. “Do you really have what it takes to be a hero? To stop the big scary boogeyman from killing the president and conquering Kalos? Can you make the sacrifice necessary for real power? Or are you just another worthless goody two-shoes pawn?” To accentuate his point, Akamaro took a deliberate step backwards toward the office door, in brazen defiance of Jamie’s threat.
Alex, for their part, could only stare, frozen in horror as they looked back in fear between the man holding their father hostage and the ally holding a gun on both of them.
The glass around Lucia clattered as she fell to the ground with a yelp. In her efforts to distance herself from the line of fire by stepping backward, she’d misplaced her foot. Gingerly, she rolled over onto her front, careful of the shards. Blood oozed from a deep gash in her right palm; she slipped the hand into her pocket and clutching something, keeping low and moving away until she was sitting with her back against the broken window, at which point she pulled out her hand and pressed down on the wound with a strip of cloth. With a gun to her father’s head and another pointed at the man holding him hostage, there was nothing for her to do but watch, listening to the rapid beat of her heart.
The little girl tried to stabilize her aim. One shot to the head, that was all it would take. One shot, and she could save Lionel and all of Kalos. But Akamaro’s head felt so small from Jamie’s viewpoint, partially covered up by Lionel, by Lucia’s father. Each second, Akamaro got further away. She adjusted her aim higher.
*BANG*
The shot rang out. A clear miss above both their heads.
“Th-This is your last chance!” Jamie yelled, trying to force herself to believe the threat she was making.
Akamaro scoffed. “It is far, far too late for that.” The man shouldered the door open and whipped his gun towards something inside.
In that moment, time did begin to slow. Or it felt that way for Jamie. Images flashed of the Deoza operatives she had faced in the train and in Havoc, as Akamaro’s words echoed. “Sacrifice.” The way those agents had willingly tossed their own lives away, because they believed in Ford’s cause. Because he was going to save the world. And now it was her turn. Her turn to sink to that depth.
She tried to focus on Akamaro, to line up the perfect shot to save the day. But her eyes very briefly made eye contact with Lionel. The face was filled with anger, but his eyes held a distant resignation. The frustration that no matter what he tried, it had ended in failure. For a brief moment, his features seemed to change. His brown hair and well-dressed suit placed another man’s face in place of Lionel’s, one much like her own. Tears welled up in her eyes.
A smug smile laced with casual cruelty curled the edges of Akamaro’s mouth. He kept his eyes on Jamie, eager to watch her anguish even as the tendons in his pointer finger tensed around the trigger.
Jamie mouthed two words.
*BANG*

---[President]--- (President’s Office, Lumiose City, Kalos, August 13th, 2017, 12:03 A.M.)
*BANG*
Time froze. This time, however, supernatural powers were not involved.
A pair of dull thuds sounded. One, the sound of Lionel slumping to the floor. The other, Chalmers falling against the doorframe.
Two bodies fell. One rose again.
Akamaro Chalmers stood, grinning as he brushed lightly at his chest, shirt now stained with Lionel’s blood. “Pity,” he said, affecting a tone of mild annoyance, “I rather liked this shirt--”
*BANG!* *BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!*
“Now really--”
*BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!* *CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!*
Chalmers regarded his assailant with a bemused expression from his new position on the floor. “Are you quite finished?”
Jamie was not. She ran at the man on the ground, the gun still in her hand. She brought her foot down on his face, again and again. When even that failed she kneeled down and grabbing the pistol with her other hand, began to beat Chalmers face with it. Despite each hit that should have caused bruising and bleeding, his face didn’t grow more injured despite the relentless assault. When the gun slipped out of her grasp, she resorted to punching him.
When Jamie ran forth to beat Chalmers, Jamie’s team sprang into action, releasing themselves from their Poké Balls now that Chalmers no longer had a hostage. The first ones to action were Lucan and the Buizel. The two of them rushed over to Jamie and began to pull her off of Chalmers. Lucan resorted to biting Jamie’s shoulder to drag her, while the Buizel had to deal with one of his wounds coming open to move that fast.
Next were Pelleas and Tristan. Pelleas moved to help Megara fight off the Braviary, while Tristan moved to secure Chalmers. Neither of them could bear to look at Jamie at that moment. How could a parent be prepared for this moment?
And lastly, Grummore heaved himself over to Lionel, out of instinct rather than rational thought. He didn’t have his power to heal right now. But he still had to check the condition of the dying man.
A pained cry rang through the room. “DAD…!”
Over by the window, Lucia was struggling with two sides of her perception. On the one hand, this was all a dream--not real, not happening, the worst case scenario that she was so worried about and now it had come to pass, so it couldn’t be real. Any minute now she’d wake up back outside the door, ready to take down Chalmers.
Or.
Back in the van, heading toward Lumiose for this confrontation, catching the last few moments of sleep that she was likely to get tonight in the backseat of a rental van.
Or.
She wasn’t in Kalos at all, she was back at base, dreaming of all the myriad ways that hers and Jamie’s trip to Kalos could go. Maybe there was no monster devouring the land and the sea out in Kanto. Maybe her life was peaceful. Maybe the war was never fought and she just existed in a blissful ignorance.
Or--as the other side of her screamed--this was reality. Jamie had Chalmers pinned. Her Pokémon struggled to pull her away before she could--what? Kill Chalmers with her bare hands? The man had already shrugged off a dozen bullets that had buried themselves in the wall behind him, leaving streaks of blood on the floor and ceiling. But the other man, the other casualty . . .
Lucia felt herself breathing hard, staring at Lionel. Not just a man, not just a casualty--her step-father. Flat on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Bleeding out. She breathed hard, and her hands shook as she pushed herself up, ignoring the pain shooting through the gash in her palm.
As Pelleas slammed into the Braviary, giving Megara an opening to attack--
As Lucan and the Buizel pulled Jamie away--
As Tristan moved to grab the man who had instigated all of this--
Lucia ran toward Lionel, sliding to a stop next to him and slamming Audinaga’s Poké Ball on the ground. Audinaga was powerless, but she could still assess the situation. Jamie was powerless, but she could still assess the situation.
The bullet had pierced her step-father’s chest, exiting out the back. The broken frame of his Holo Caster jutted out from the shredded remains of his pocket; the bullet had pierced it, as well. She didn’t have her tools. He was bleeding, red waves gushing out and pooling, pooling outward. He was pale. Lucia was pale. She pressed down on the wound, but it still bled, seeping through her fingers.
“No . . . No, no, no . . .”
Audinaga looked on, hands at her mouth.
They could assess, but they were powerless to stop the situation.
No. Stop. Focus.
They needed to assess. They needed to do what they did best: Treat damage. Save lives. That’s what she had trained for. That’s what she needed to do now. She had known this man for so much of her life. He had provided for her, cared for her, doted on her. It couldn’t end like this--she wouldn’t let it. She could save him, she knew she could, if she only had her tools, if she had more time, if . . .
If Audinaga could help me.
She looked to the Hearing Pokémon, meeting her eye. In that moment, Pokémon and trainer connected on a level that they had never achieved before.
“Audinaga,” Lucia said, speaking through the vice-grip of her emotions. “Please.”
A rainbow light erupted around the Audino. A moment later, it shattered, revealing her changed form. The rabbit-like Pokémon’s pink fur had turned nearly white, extending appropriately enough like a doctor’s coat down her sides. A tuft of fur had appeared on her sternum, and white fur now covered her feet. The now-Normal-Fairy-Type stared at her trainer as the light faded into sparkles around her.
Her hands glowed faintly with energy. Lucia gasped. “Audinaga!” And, realizing what had happened, the Audino moved beside her trainer, placing her hands on Lionel’s chest and focusing her Healing Pulse on the wound, willing it to close and watching as it did so.
Lucia gripped Lionel’s hand. “Please don’t go . . . Please don’t go . . .”

---[Detective]--- (Looker Bureau, Lumiose City, Kalos, August 12th, 2017, 11:25 P.M.)
Asriel’s scythe sliced toward Mable’s unprotected ear, the disoriented scientist unable to avoid the attack. Blade bit into flesh--
--only for nothing to happen. The scientist stumbled several steps to the side, a splash of blood spilling forth to stain the floor, but aside from that she was unaffected -- and even that much could be attributed more to Dahlia’s disorientation attack than from the Absol’s savage blow. The thrown Diggersby similarly bounced harmlessly off of Aliana, serving only to knock her a step or two back. The absurd sight seemed as if it should have been accompanied by some sort of cartoonish ting and a visible indicator of “no damage”.
Mable smirked. Aliana did not.
“Ready to surrender?”/”I surrender.”
The blue-haired scientist gave a massive double-take. “What?!”
“It is illogical to continue,” Aliana intoned. She glanced to her Druddigon, which had slammed down atop her Mightyena rather than the Toxicroak she had intended; she casually retreated the badly-wounded Dark-type.
“But we’re invincible!”
“Correct. However, though we are unable to be harmed, we are able to be delayed. The presence of sufficiently capable interlopers has already rendered our mission a failure. Given our record, I find it unlikely that our master will show leniency in our punishment.” The orange-haired scientist casually sat down and crossed her legs.
Mable snarled at her apparently incompetent partner. “You may be willing to just give up and waste your power, but I’m sure not!” She grabbed the two Pokéballs at her hip and threw them, releasing a Weavile and Houndoom that rushed to double-team the newly-transformed Gardevoir.
Aliana inclined her head. “Understandable. I am aware that our loyalties are unequally measured. If you wish to further exacerbate your failure, consider my team at your disposal. I fail to see any scenario in which I would be allowed to keep them, regardless of this encounter’s outcome.”
Mable glared at her fellow scientist, but did not reject the offer. “Druddigon, Dragon Tail the Dragonite -- yes, I know no powers, just do it! Diggersby… uh… go underground and… help Gourgeist I guess? Where is that stupid ghost anyway?”
Right on cue, the Ghost- and Grass-type flew up through the surface of the ground, propelled by the punch Moriarty had delivered. As commanded, Diggersby punched out at the Dusknoir, only for the blow to pass right through the still-incorporeal Ghost-type. The Normal-type backed up to the Gourgeist it had been ordered to defend in a futile attempt to guard.

The blade hit and lodged into the bony plate on the Mega Houndoom's chest. Malva smirked. "Houndoom, give it another Inferno." The hellhound opened its mouth, another blaze of fire forming in its mouth.
The Charizard fighting with Empoleon cried out, dark red blood spraying forth from the wound in its belly. It staggered back from the blow, claws clutching at the wound... Which began to knit together even as the admin ordered "Go for another Toss, Charizard!"
The other Charizard had grabbed Serena's Absol and chucked it at Ches in a Seismic Toss of its own, causing the two two stumble away from the fight for a moment.
The Flare Gallade used its hands to spin itself to its feet, and came at Shere Khan with a Psycho Cut that left the Arcanine yelping. Inigo scowled and lunged forward to perform an unpowered jab at his counterpart.
Emily winced. "Sorry, everyone..." she murmured. There was a screech as Spitfire appeared from his ball. With a high keen, the Talonflame swooped down towards Alex, claws extended. Ronin, for his part, buzzed around between Alex and Swampert and attacked the powered creature from behind with both scythe blades.
OOC: Houndoom - Inferno -> Absol Charizard "A" - Seismic Toss -> Empoleon Charizard "B" - Seismic Toss -> Serena's Absol Flare Gallade - Psycho Cut -> Shere Khan Inigo - Jab -> Gallade Talonflame - Swooping attack -> Alex Lockwood Ronin - Dual Scythes -> Swampert

Olympia just smiled at Yvette's declaration. She and Sigilyph were avoiding the attacks from the girl and her Medicham, neither seeming much put out now that they only had one opponent and room full of friends. "Carrie, little one, you must give up this assault. It will end poorly."
The Monferno cried out as Merida landed on its head. With a screech of outrage, it attempted to grab the Meditite and slam her into the ground with all of its monkey strength.
The Flareon took the hit and, with a growl, attempted to bite into Kammy's face with its sharp fangs. The Sneasel, meanwhile, took the hit from the Flamethrower and paused in thought, doing the mental math of an unpowered Sneasel versus a fully powered (and then some) Typhlosion. Deciding she didn't like those odds, she stepped back towards her trainer, who was wincing at the peppering of aura spheres he and his companions were getting.
OOC: Monferno - Monkey Slam -> Merida Flareon - Unpowered bite -> Kammy Sneasel - Lolnope -> Self Medicham - Kicks and punches -> Sigilyph Sigilyph - Rofldodge

"Stand fucking still you piece of shit!" Mercury called as he formed another blade of aura and threw it at the fleeing "Allen." Sure, an Aura Sphere would have hit no matter what, but blades just felt more fun. As he released the blood-red scythe with the silver edge, it tore chunks of stone from the road, blasted through the sides of shops, cleaved into a car that "Allen" had pushed over as a makeshift blockade.
The grim would-be reaper shot a glare behind him. His pursuer was being annoyingly persistent, after already ruining a perfectly good meal. He considered sending out his Charizard to help run interference, but the Pokémon was still tired from the earlier battle and could likely prove a liability as much as an aid. He scowled, reaching instead for his second Pokéball.
A flash of light, and the man had a Bulbasaur on his shoulder. As Mercury picked up speed, the Pokémon reached out with vines and -- in a show of surprising strength -- ripped down a streetlight. Sparks flew, and the wires hit a nearby car, running enough current through that the oil and other fluids began to burn.
”Piece of shit.”
High above, running silently along the rooftops, a full-suited figure straight out of a Pokéstar Studios production let out a quiet robotically-filtered gasp. A hand went to the side of their helmet, a possibly-feminine voice muttering “Come on, pick up, pick up…”
Mercury recoiled from the flame for a moment, then scowled. He was being overly cautious, stopping at the first sign of fire. With a growl, he ran wide around the car and the light pole, releasing another bloody-silver blade just as his adversary ducked around a corner. ”Oh, come the fuck on!
Still, at least he could easily track the man. The streets were largely empty, and the man’s aura was more unique than any person’s save maybe that Alma girl. There would be no losing him in a crowd.
On the fifth ring, the phone was finally answered. “Mask!” the suit’s wearer asked “Need you on patrol. There’s two men--” The person on the other end cut them off with their own urgent appeal. “What?? …And you’re absolutely certain.” The brief pause spoke volumes. The suit-wearer swore. “I can’t. One of them tried to kill Sycamore. The other stopped him, but doesn’t care about collateral. You’ll have to handle it yourself.” Another pause. The figure spotted their quarry turning down an alley and made an enormous suit-assisted leap to maintain pursuit. “I understand. Listen -- don’t die. This is… hard enough as it is. Okay? …Good luck, Mask.” The figure reached for their helmet once more, and redoubled their pace to keep up.

IC: Dahlia Seaton/Klim Prizak - Looker Bureau, Lumiose City Dahlia hardly paid attention to the squabbling Flare scientists. Klim's words had reminded her of her training. She wasn't sure if she was ready for such an enormous task, but given the current circumstances Klim's idea seemed to be their best option.
Klim glanced over at the Heroine of Reverse, a knowing smile on his face. The smile turned into a smirk directed at Aliana and Mable. "You're invincible, huh? Then you're going to love this."
As if on cue, Dahlia's eyes glowed. She clawed at the air and a portal of darkness ripped open beneath the scientists' feet, sending them tumbling into the Distortion World. Dracos body slammed the Druddigon, aiming to knock it through the portal as well. Moriarty acted in a similar fashion, punching the Diggersby toward the inky darkness. Asriel moved between Amethyst and the pair of dark-types, butting heads with the Houndoom to try and force it back to where its trainer had fallen.
OOC: Dahlia: Distortion World Portal -> Aliana and Mable Dracos: typeless body slam towards portal -> Druddigon Moriarty: typeless punch towards portal -> Diggersby Asriel: typeless headbutt towards portal -> Houndoom
IC: Alex Lockwood - Kalos Pokémon League Alex raised an arm in a futile attempt to defend himself. In a sudden flash of light his Espeon emerged from his Pokéball and took the hit. The powerless psychic screamed as talons tore into its soft flesh. Alex's eyes widened in horror as his beloved Pokémon -- the only memento he had of his missing godfather -- collapsed in a pool of blood.
Another scream filled the room as Alex's Absol suffered a second Inferno at point-blank range. It took all of his strength just to keep standing. As the flames roasted his fresh burns, Absol turned his head to twist the scythe that had been buried in the Houndoom's chestplate. If he was going down, he was taking this abominable hellhound with him.
Empoleon found himself once more hurled into the air and once more slammed to the ground. The now-furious penguin jabbed both of his wings into the closing wound on the Charizard's stomach and planted his horns against the lizard's long neck in warning.
This couldn't be happening. They had been winning . . . how had things gone so wrong? Alex fell to his knees and pressed a hand to his Espeon to try and stop the bleeding. It was only then that his mind registered the person responsible for the attack. Tears streaming down his face, Alex glared over at his cousin in disbelief. "Em, what the HELL?!"
Swampert saw his allies falling one by one, then felt Ronin's blades sink into his back. He no longer cared what Emily's true intentions were, he refused to stand idle as this overgrown mantis beat him up. With a defiant roar, he reached back and grabbed one of the scythes sticking out of his back to hold his opponent in place. Then he launched himself backwards into the ground, placing the Scyther at the epicenter of a massive Earthquake that shook the entire League Building.
OOC: Espeon <- Hit by Spitfire's Swooping Attack Absol (burned): Twisting the scythe -> Mega Houndoom Empoleon: Double Ice-Cleaver Wings -> Charizard A Mega Swampert: Grapple to nullify flying immunity + Earthquake -> Area of Effect centered on Ronin
IC: Ryan Sanders/Zoe Llyan/Yvette - Anistar Gym, Anistar City Between Collie's warning and the monkey's terrifying screeches, Zoe was starting to regret her earlier act of bravery. "Merida, no!" she cried as the Meditite was plucked from the monkey's head and slammed into the ground. Merida was dazed, but what hurt most of all was the worry she heard in Zoe's voice. Determined not to give her trainer another reason to be afraid, Merida picked herself up and lunged at the Monferno in an attempt to pin it to the ground.
Quil huffed as the Sneasel outran his flames. Ducking his head, he chased after the dark-type with a Quick Attack. With his speed boosted by Jaeda's Tailwind, the Typhlosion adjusted his trajectory in an attempt to take out a few of the Flare agents in the process.
Yvette landed next to the Gym Leader and pointed at the plainly-clothed girl. "Didn't you get the memo about the costume party?" she asked with a nod to the uniformed Flare agents. "Or are you the only one of your friends who isn't a complete fashion disaster?" As she spoke, her Staraptor dove from the ceiling towards the Medicham.
OOC: Merida (Speed +1): Typeless Tackle -> Monferno Quil (Speed +1): Quick Attack -> Sneasel + nearby Flare agents Staraptor (Speed +1): Swooping Attack -> Medicham

=NPC: Meyer/Dr. Smith/ = "Uh huh." Meyer tried to be interested, he really did, but it had been a long night and his children were waiting for him. "Listen, Doctor, I would love to stay and chat, but I really need to--" A *thud* and a curse interrupted the conversation. "Leave it," a feminine voice ordered, "just go!" "But you’re supposed to leave a note--" "Come on!" The two men turned to see a man and a woman in identical orange clothes, the latter dragging her companion away from the site of a car’s broken side mirror. Meyer paled. "Uh… Doctor, I… I have to go…" "Nonsense!" the man declared. "Really, you’re standing on the cusp of adventure and your first instinct is to basically run?" He paused. "Actually, no, that’s quite sensible, we should probably--" A sudden commotion on the other side of the hospital cut him off, as the two turned to each other, suddenly unsure which way to even go. Meyer stepped back with a desperate look on his face. Going out the front entrance was out of the question with the people approaching, going out the back door sounded like it wasn't going to end well, and he couldn't head off to get into costume. "Alright, we have to hide. Further in, though, we need to make sure everyone is kept safe if at all possible, and be ready to call the police." Meyer grabbed the arm of the doctor before he could protest, then ran off further into the hospital to hide. -==IC: Chloe Hikari/Ray Hakuda -- Lumiose City, Magenta Plaza==- "Wait!" Chloe yelled out as she ran after the Flare agents, Ray trailing not far behind. With a frown, the two stopped as the four Flare agents ran into the hospital. They gave each other a look, then followed them into the building. Chloe grabbed her Luxray's Poké Ball as she walked through the doors. "Looks like they're talking to some people who beat us here." Ray mumbled as he grabbed his Zangoose's Poké Ball as well. He watched as the four agents started to talk to two people in red jackets who were already present and seemingly in the middle of attacking. As the two approached slowly, they found the united group approaching with their hands on their hips - except for the woman in the middle, who had her arms crossed. Ray watched as the agent that he recalled being named Charlie ran off, further into the hospital. "So, ya apparently have some shit to stir with us? Well, we ain't gonna make it easy for ya. Powers or not, we can take ya! After all, I bet it's just, what, one between you two?" The woman asked with a rather snarky smirk on her face. She nodded toward the two. "Sic 'em. We can clean the mess up later when the city is ours." "Mess?" One of the other Flare agents present gave a frown to the woman. "Wait, but I never got the memo about stuff like that. We were supposed to just be hassling these places, right?" "Leave if you want then, but these people, right here, are bad, are what's wrong with the world. Are you just going to leave that be?" "W-well..." "How are we supposed to be who's wrong?" Chloe asked with a frown, taking a step forward as Ally moved forward too. "You lot are the ones who are attacking a hospital." "You don't know a single bit about our plan, so how could you even speak?" The woman asked smugly as she finally uncrossed her arms to point at the psychic girl. "Even we don't know the full extents of it!" There was a silence for a few moments. "Uh," Ray raised a finger as he looked at the Flare agent in confusion. "If even you don't know all the details, how can you be sure it's a good thing?" More silence followed the question as the woman glared at Ray. "It doesn't matter, just get rid of them!" The woman growled, as the four other agents flanking her sent out their Pokémon quickly. A Ninetales, Combusken, Darmanitan, and Salazzle popped out and took aggressive stances against Chloe and Ray.
"Guess we have no choice now." Ray grinned, as he sent out Zangetsu and Chloe sent out Ren. "Let's do this, and quickly. Zangetsu, use Night Slash on the Darmanitan!" "You too, Ren! Wild Charge on the Darmanitan too! Ally, back them up by using Psycho Cut on that Combusken!" Chloe held her hand forward as her Pokémon charged forward alongside Ray's Zangoose. The Darmanitan and Combusken seemed relatively shocked by their opponents actually having powers for once in the past one and a half weeks. Neither made any real attempts to dodge because of the sheer surprise garnered by the unexpected moves; the Combusken fainted from the sheer force behind Ally's strike and the Darmanitan seemed on the verge of following already. "Wh-what is this?" The woman's bravado very quickly faltered as she took a couple steps back. "Three? How? You lot, try to use attacks!" She clenched her hand as she glanced around. Despite the orders from Gianna and the others, there was no reaction from any of the three remaining Pokémon; no fire from Ninetales or Salazzle, just a normal punch that Ray's Zangoose took with average ease, and overall confusion from the Flare Pokémon. "C'mon, c'mon! We got this, Hone Claws, then Night Slash again, Zangetsu!" Ray punched the air triumphantly, as the Zangoose sharpened his claws, then launched forward to slice through the Darmanitan, sending it to the ground. "No!" The Flare agent who owned the Darmanitan gave a scowl as he recalled the Pokémon. "If only I had..." He left the thought unfinished as he took a step back. "Julia, you said this would be an easy task. I don't think any of us brought more than one Pokémon, just in case this went south." "How is that supposed to be my fault? I didn't expect any of..." The boisterous woman motioned to the entirety of the fight, as Ally tore through the Salazzle and Ren shocked the Ninetales like she had the Darmanitan. " This! When could we have ever expected these Pokémon to just suddenly get their moves back, especially when we don't have them?" Julia growled in frustration, as she looked back, seeing the tides turning against them rather quickly. "Hold them off, I'm going to find the others." "Wait, what--" The owner of the Ninetales turned his head in shock as his assigned partner took off on him. "Julia, don't just leave me here!!!" He glanced over at the other Flare agents, who were eying him harshly. He took a step back. "If everyone is done fighting," Chloe said as Ray cleared his throat and tapped his foot. "Then we are going to be headed further inside. If anyone wants to stop us, then we can arrange a more long-term stay in the hospital with Ally's help here." No-one said a word, as the hallway to the rest of the hospital remained clear. "Good choice." The psychic smiled, as she walked forward. On her way past the Flare agents, however, she felt like something was off. A pang of pain shot through her body, as she clutched at her chest, despite there being nothing external to back it up. "Here, here's a chance." One of the agents said with a desperate grin as he fumbled for a gun that was hidden on his leg. However, to Ray's surprise, the owner of the Ninetales had the fire-type tackle his fellow agent before the would-be killer managed to release the weapon from its holster. "Go, now! I... I can't support people like this!" The agent yelled out to Ray and Chloe, as he ran up to block the duo from the rest of Flare agents. With a solemn nod, Ray helped Chloe down the hall, running as fast as the two could with Ray half-carrying her.
"What the hell, Nathan? Get out of the way!" The gun wielder roared, as he shoved the Ninetales away with as much strength as he could muster. "No. I signed up for this to help people. I'm sure as hell not going to give up my goals to support some sick organization like this! Ninetales! Attack again!" Nathan yelled out, as the fire-type leaped at her target once again, aiming to stall the gun wielder and the other two as long as they could. After a few minutes, three consecutive gunshots rang out, and then there was silence from the entrance of the hospital.

IC - Olivia Seaton (Amethyst, Shade, Toxin) - Looker Bureau, Lumiose City:
Olivia turned to the evolved Gardevoir. "Am--"
One step ahead of you.
As Shade charged forward to meet the enemy Weavile, Amethyst released the psychic power she had been holding. A wave of energy washed across the room, the Psychic attack contributing to her allies' efforts to force their opponents into the dimensional hole that Dahlia had created. Of course, it would have no effect on the various Dark-Types they were fighting, but for something like a Diggersby, a Druddigon, a Gourgeist, and two humans--those she could affect.
Mid-charge, Shade slammed into the other Weavile. He brought his claws back and forward, aiming to stab into the Dark-Type's side.
OOC:
Amethyst: Psychic > Druddigon, Diggersby, Gourgeist, Mable, Aliana (helping force toward hole) Shade: Tackle/claw jab > Weavile
IC - Kyle Eston (Jaeda)/Colleen Llyan (Lucina)/Moira (Talonflame) - Anistar Gym, Anistar City:
As soon as her heavy body made contact with the Flareon, Kammy withdrew into her shell, providing her a degree of protection against the retaliatory bite. Still somewhat propelled by her running momentum, she started to rotate, aiming to combo-hit the Fire-Type with a make-do Rapid Spin.
Colleen watched the struggle between Merida and the Monferno with a frown. She turned to Lucina. Though the Lucario could not read her Aura, she could read the intent behind the look and nodded in response. She ran forward, bringing her arm back. Shifting into a slide, she aimed an upward slam of the palm toward the Playful Pokémon. Colleen turned her attention back toward the Flare Agents, and then to Ryan.
"Think you guys can keep all of these guys occupied for a few minutes?" she asked, beginning to focus her energy even as she spoke. "I've got something I want to try."
Across the field, wind swept in a wide circle as Jaeda descended to a slow stop, finally dropping heavily onto the ground between Carrie and Olympia. Seeing Yvette's attack against the former, Kyle turned to the Gym Leader. "Olympia, right?" he said. "Nice to meet you. If I can make a suggestion, I think you'd be safer with the rest of us on the other side of the arena." He shifted to give her space on Jaeda's back and held a hand out to help her up. The Charizard eyed Carrie and the Medicham closely, flames peaking out from her mouth--a prepared attack for either of them, if they got too close for comfort.
OOC:
Kammy (SPEED+): Withdraw, "Rapid Spin" > Flareon Lucina (SPEED+): Palm strike > Monferno Colleen: Focusing Jaeda (SPEED+): Preparing Flamethrower

---[Detective]--- (Looker Bureau, Lumiose City, Kalos, August 12th, 2017, 11:27 P.M.)
Under ordinary circumstances, Mable’s incompetence as a Trainer would have led to her defeat. She would have been arrested, permanently imprisoned, and her Pokémon assessed for placement with new Trainers who would be more capable and less evil.
Dahlia Seaton, Heroine of Reverse, was anything but ordinary.
The moment the Heroine slashed out, fingers clawed in a manner reminiscent of her benefactor’s own “digits”, the world seemed to ripple, the distortion manifesting beneath the Flare scientists as a portal of everlasting darkness. Mable was the first to fall, the hapless Trainer screaming as she fell out of sight. Aliana lasted longer, her mostly-unharmed Gourgeist rushing to its Trainer’s side with the help of the enemy Psychic to hold her above the expanding portal. The surrendered scientist saw first her Druddigon, then her Diggersby, and finally her partner’s Houndoom knocked cleanly into the darkness, the former two unconscious to boot. However, she felt her Gourgeist begin to flag, as the duo slipped lower and lower--
Suddenly, the Ghost-type’s valiant resistance did not matter. Suddenly Amethyst’s returned powers, Mable’s bleeding Weavile, Shade, Toxin, Dracos, Moriarty -- none of them mattered. As the portal strained to devour its target, it grew, and grew -- and without warning, snapped wide, running wild as it consumed friend and foe alike. In an instant, the portal was no longer a portal into the Distortion World, but an increasingly-distant opening leading out, seemingly blocked by what once was a ceiling; the office was no longer an office, but an assortment of falling furniture in the void that surrounded them all.
As the world tumbled around them, it was difficult to keep track of the many former-occupants of the former-room. The Flare-owned Pokémon had disappeared, whether retreated or lost impossible to tell, and Mable was only discernible by her continuous scream -- which, ominously, was suddenly cut short for reasons unknown. Dahlia’s own fall was cut short by the grasp of an unexpected arm… Aliana’s. Slightly above, the woman’s Gourgeist struggled to slow their descent, even as Aliana tried and failed to catch Olivia as well. The scientist frowned, reinforcing her grip on Dahlia in the meantime. “Lower,” she ordered her Pokémon, “we are incapable of escape. A divided group has poor odds of survival. We must alleviate that limitation.” She turned her attention back to Dahlia. “Do you find my assistance sufficient to accept my offer of defection, since my verbal surrender was seemingly not?”

---League--- Alex's cry of outrage drew the attention of... Well, most everyone. The only person in the group who didn't know Emily personally was Calem, and he continued to issue orders to Ches.
James Cruize looked over and saw the spreading pool of blood. "What--" he started to say, and then the Gallade was turning the tables, pushing past Inigo to sink a glowing blade into James' back.
Elaine was pulled from her worry at the shout as well, and turned to see her younger brother get hit by the attack. Her eyes widened in horror as blood sprayed from the wound, and her hands came up to her mouth.
She ran for Malva, her Pokémon lagging behind in her haste, and grabbed the woman's arm. “Stop this!” she cried, “Why are you fighting us? What do they have on you to make you… I know you, Malva, we’re friends, how could you ever…?”
The Houndoom yelped in pain as the scythe pushed past the plate of bone and dug into tender flesh. Malva growled, clenching her fist. "Stubborn... Houndoom, Crunch!" The fire- and dark-type lunged forward, fangs glowing with an evil energy. At that moment, Elaine grabbed her arm. Malva turned, eyes cold behind her sunglasses.
"My life has been Flare's since the day I met Lysandre and heard his plans. I had hoped to bring you into the fold, but it seems it wasn't meant to be." Malva raised her arm, pulling it from Elaine's grasp. "As a token of the friendship I held for you, I will allow you to leave here alive, if you convince your family to leave as well."
Serena tried to split her attention between the battle and Emily, but ultimately she made the call to deal with the defection after the rest of the Flare operatives were defeated. "Absol, help that Empoleon!" The Absol nodded and rushed in with its scythe, attempting to widen the wounds the Empoleon had created on the enemy Charizard.
The other Charizard spat a gout of flame that left Ches desperately in need of healing. Calem cursed and returned the Spiny Armor Pokémon. He wouldn't win a battle with a powered Charizard like that. Sorting quickly in his mind, he grabbed a ball. "Let's go, Tyrantrum!"
Spitfire circled around overhead. He had missed the first time thanks to a timely intervention by the Espeon. Blood-soaked claws flashed in the light of fires around the room as he swooped again. Not to kill, merely to injure, distract, incapacitate.
Ronin took the Earthquake point blank. It was super-powered by the Swampert's new form, but Ronin was a tough bug, and bugs didn't mind getting a bit dirty. He twisted his scythes, attempting to dig them deeper into the Swampert and find something that would lay it low.
Emily's hand shook as she held it over her mouth. Tears stung her eyes, but she blinked them away. She had to focus. She had to watch as people she loved got hurt.
For the greater good. To build a bright future.
Something in the words felt wrong, but she couldn't think well enough to find the disconnect. It was all happening too fast...
OOC: Flare Gallade: Psycho Cut -> James Cruize (Hit) Serena's Absol: Scythe attack -> Charizard "A" Charizard "B": Flamethrower -> Ches (TKO) Ches: Switch -> Tyrantrum Houndoom: Hit by scythe; Crunch -> Absol Ronin: Hit by Earthquake; Twist the Knife -> Swampert Spitfire: Swooping Attack -> Alex
---Gym--- Monkey see, monkey do, but in this case the monkey did first. Merida tackled the Monferno, pushing him to the ground in retalation for what he'd done to her. As he hit the ground, however, he reached out with one of his feet and attempted to grab the Meditite's ankle and pull her down with him. Monkey do indeed.
The Sneasel had honestly been just trying to avoid combat alltogether. She was quite surprised when the Typhlosion lunged forward and slammed into her -- and her trainer and one of his friends. With a growl and a hiss, she latched onto the attacking Pokémon and swiped at its eyes with her claws.
Carrie snarled. "Enough with the jokes already! You do not get to ruin my ascent to leadership! Medicham--" She was cut off briefly as her trusted Pokémon was hit by the Staraptor's talons. She growled again. "Medicham, handle that damned bird!" The Medicham nodded and, recovering from the attack, retaliated with an unpowered palm strike.
The Flareon took the hit from Kammy's spinning shell. It definitely didn't like that. With a soft growl of frustration, it attempted to claw into the thick shell, to little use.
Olympia smiled at Kyle and Jaeda. "Thank you most kindly, Mister Eston. Let's be off. Sigiylph, stall them." The Sigilyph gave o outward sign of hearing the order except to come in an attack the Medicham from the other side as it tried to attack Staraptor.
OOC: Monferno: Tripped; Trip -> Merida Sneasel: Hit by Quick Attack; Blinding Claw Attack -> Quil Medicham: Hit by claws; Palm Strike -> Staraptor Flareon: Hit by Kammy; Unpowered Scratch -> Kammy's shell Sigilyph: Unpowered attack -> Medicham
Lachina Adaon - Ambrette City
A Pokémon Ranger stepped off of the ship from Cyllage, an Altaria circling above her, a nervous Shinx on her shoulder. It was still early enough, there was still time for her to get to the lab. She got directions and quickly made her way over, not sure what she would say to convince these people of the threat of Flare.

IC: Dahlia Seaton/Klim Prizak - Distortion WorldEverything seemed to happen at once. The portal expanded far more than Dahlia had intended, enveloping the entire room. Falling through the darkness, Dahlia lost her focus and caught a brief glimpse of the portal vanishing above her before her fall was abruptly cut short by Aliana. As she mulled over Aliana's question and her eyes adjusted to the darkness, Dahlia saw they were descending towards a rocky outcropping that jutted out over swirling clouds. A forest of the tall vines she had seen on her previous visit stood a stone's throw away from their projected landing point. Klim and Moriarty flew down to where Olivia and Amethyst stood -- the transformed Gardevoir had apparently teleported her Trainer to safety. Olivia carefully replaced Toxin and Shade's Pokéballs on her belt, the two having been recalled during the fall. Dracos swooped through the air on his newfound wings. He had caught Asriel first before diving towards Aliana with a ferocious roar. "Dracos, wait!" Dahlia cried. The Dragonite came to a halt before he could collide with the Flare scientist and send both her and Dahlia falling through the strange world. He regarded Aliana with a despondent huff and proceeded to hover over her as they descended to the ground. When they reached the ground, Dahlia knew she could no longer ignore the scientist's query. "I'll be completely honest," she said in a firm voice. "I don't trust you. And I don't need your help to get out of here. Mr. Giratina's power flows through my veins, while the only thing flowing through yours is a stubborn refusal to die, which frankly isn't much help to me at all. I've got half a mind to just leave you here to rot, but it's not up to me to decide." "Well I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about leaving her here." Klim approached the pair, offering Aliana a nonchalant tip of his fedora. "Not bad for your first portal under stress, Dahlia. We can work on your finesse, but it got the job done. Now, if I might offer a counter-opinion. Not to play Giratina's Advocate, but it might help if we took her with us as a captive. After all, she seems to know a lot about Flare and what they have planned. Plus, she did try to surrender before you put on that awesome display of power." Dahlia looked over at her sister. "What do you think, Liv? Should we take her with her partner?" "Speaking of which," Klim looked around. "Where's your twin?" IC: Alex Lockwood - Kalos Pokémon LeagueAlex saw Spitfire diving towards him, claws outstretched. He should have had plenty of time to dodge out of the way. But he was so focused on Emily, on trying to wrap his mind around his cousin's betrayal, that he didn't register the attack until it was too late. Pain tore through his hastily-raised arm as red-orange feathers filled his vision. The force of the impact knocked Alex to the ground as he screamed in agony. It was all he could do to fumble for a Pokéball as the enormous bird sunk its talons deeper into his arm. His Braviary appeared in a burst of light. The bird of prey took one look at his once-friendly rival and immediately flew into Spitfire's face. With a screech he forced the Talonflame to retreat away from Alex. Once they were in the air, Braviary lashed out his his own talons, his bloodthirsty scream demanding revenge. Alex's scream reached Swampert's ears. There was nothing he could do as he watched his trusted partner cradle his injured arm. The massive mud fish roared in anger at the Scyther that lay beneath him. Letting go of one scythe, Swampert formed an Ice Ball and slammed it into Ronin's side. Empoleon nodded his thanks to Serena's Absol and pressed his advantage, his horns still pressed to the Charizard's neck. The penguin chanced a glance at his other Absol teammate, who wasn't faring nearly as well. After two Infernos and a Crunch, the blue-eyed Absol was at the end of his rope. His knees buckled as he collapsed under Houndoom's maw. His body went limp and would have crumpled on the floor had his head not been held up by the scythe that remained firmly wedged in his enemy's sturdy breastplate. The Houndoom would quickly find that trying to move around with a fully-grown Absol hanging out of his chest like a ragdoll was quite cumbersome. "Emily . . ." Alex had rolled onto his side, his good hand gripping the arm Spitfire had maimed. Shock, anger, confusion; a whirlwind of emotions swept through him as he stared at his cousin. A single question rose to his lips, barely audible over the din of battle around him. "Why . . . ?" OOC:Alex <- Hit by Spitfire's Swooping Attack Braviary: Avenging Talons -> Spitfire Mega Swampert: Ice Ball -> Ronin Empoleon: Still Attacking -> Charizard A Absol ( fainted): DeadFainted Weight -> Restricting Mega Houndoom's movement IC: Ryan Sanders/Zoe Llyan/Yvette - Anistar Gym, Anistar CityIt was lucky that the moment Quil noticed his unwanted Sneasel passenger he ducked into a Flame Wheel. The Sneasel's claws raked across his forehead, tearing into the fur well above his eyes. Flames then erupted on his back, spreading to his entire body as he rolled across the Gym. If the Sneasel insisted on clinging to its fiery ride, it would soon find itself nice and toasty. Merida felt herself falling and immediately used the first rule of martial arts training Zoe had taught her: if you fall unintentionally, make it look intentional. Flailing her arms about wildly, the Meditite bashed her head against the Monferno's skull as it pulled her down. Ryan glanced at Colleen, then at Quil's Flame Wheel. His lip curled into a sly grin. "I think I've got an idea." He waited until Kyle and Olympia were on their way back. Then, stepping forward to give the aura wielder some cover, Ryan pulled an Ultra Ball from his belt and threw it into the fray. The black-and-yellow capsule hit the floor of the arena and burst open. A massive four-legged beast stood on the battlefield, its intimidating and regal appearance demanding the attention of all combatants. The Legendary Entei regarded the Flare agents with an indiscernible expression. "Alright, listen up, you Flare folks!" Ryan yelled. "Surrender now, or I'll have Entei here show you what happens when you play with fire! Zoe, you'd better get ready to recall Merida. You wouldn't want her getting caught up in Entei's little fireworks show should these guys have a death wish." Unaware of Ryan's bluff, Zoe rapidly fumbled for Merida's Pokéball while finding her eyes drawn to the Legendary Beast. In all the time she'd known Ryan, she never knew he had such a powerful Pokémon at his disposal. It took all her willpower to tear her eyes away from Entei's majestic form and aim the Pokéball at Merida. Yvette likewise had no clue whether or not the Entei truly possessed powers, but she wasn't about to stay in the zone of fire and find out. "Why didn't we lead with that?" she muttered before bringing her fingers to her mouth in a sharp whistle. Staraptor had taken the Medicham's hit, but rather than retaliate, the bird of prey retreated toward Yvette. The Sky Trainer grabbed onto Staraptor's talon as they soared into the air, leaving the Medicham and Plainly-Clothed Girl behind. For his part, Entei matched the bluff perfectly. The only movement he made was a slight narrowing of the eyes. Powers or not, his presence still exuded the dominating strength of a Legendary Pokémon. Even Ryan found himself believing Entei might spew forth a maelstrom of fire at any moment. OOC:Quil ( Speed +1): Flame Wheel -> Sneasel Merida ( Speed +1): Totally Intentional Fall into a Makeshift Headbutt (or Makeshift Skull Bash?) -> Monferno Staraptor ( Speed +1): Tactical Retreat -> Self, Yvette Ryan: Bluff -> Flare Agents + Plainly-Clothed Girl Entei ( Speed +1): Intimidating Stance -> Flare Agents + Plainly-Clothed Girl

-==IC: Meyer/Dr. Smith - Lumiose Hospital==-
The attempt to stay hidden had gone from bad to worse in the span of minutes. Meyer had sent out his Blaziken and Olivia's Torchic in an attempt to not be caught with his pants down as it were, but he hadn't expected them to become engaged in a battle with four women right off the bat. He had to hand it to them, the two with odd hair colours were super strong - to the point where he was relieved when they decided this fight was just a distraction. However, with powers out, that still left effectively a 2v1 situation with how inexperienced the Torchic was. That was when things went worse.
Meyer’s phone began to ring. While Blaziken and the Torchic moved to intercept the attacks resulting from the drawn attention, Meyer quickly fumbled for his Holo Caster to silence the call. It took him to the third ring to extract the device from his pocket -- and then, seeing the identity of the caller, another two to slip in an earpiece to take the call rather than rejecting it. “Not a good time, Essentia,” he whispered. The person on the other end began to quickly start asking for help regardless.
Meyer winced at the sound of shattering glass as he knew he needed to interrupt. “I’m pinned down in the hospital by Flare agents! They have to be after Xerosic.” He resisted the urge to sigh as the other person questioned it. “Team Flare is making their move,” he repeated, “and they’re after Xerosic.”
Meyer gave the phone a deadpan glare before remembering the video was disabled as he got another questioning response. Still, the brief pause spoke volumes. “I could use some help, you know.” Meyer sighed at the reply, sneaking a peek above the overturned cabinet before ducking back behind the shelter. “I was afraid of that. Sorry I can’t help. And if I… if you’re the next one to see my kids…” The caller's voice sounded desperate, but Meyer closed his eyes. “I’ll… do what I can.”
As he hung up the phone, he turned to his doctor friend, who seemed like he wanted to ask a question. Meyer shook his head and closed his eyes as he heard another set of footsteps appear.
"Charlie, come help with these damned chickens!" Meyer didn't even want to look, but he heard the sound of a Poké Ball opening. Why hadn't he decided to take on other Pokémon to help with his work? At this rate... Meyer couldn't even finish the thought. The sound of more footsteps approach, one after another, only served to lower his hopes of getting out of the hospital in one piece -- a thought that felt ironic to him.
-==IC: Chloe Hikari/Ray Hakuda - Lumiose Hospital==-
The two panted as they made their way to about the middle of the hospital. "So, what was that all about?" Ray asked as he looked over at the pained girl.
"I have no clue..." Chloe managed to gasp out as she caught her breath. It subsided after a few more seconds, but she still seemed winded. She thought over what had been said, however, with a bite of her lip. "... Okay, maybe I have one clue..." She grinned weakly, much to Ray's annoyance.
"We don't have time right now, but... you're going to answer as soon as we can. Can you walk now?" Ray asked with a worried frown that masked his frustration with her not saying what was up. When the psychic woman nodded, he glanced down the hall, hearing sounds of a struggle. "Alright, this way, let's be quick about it."
The sight that awaited the two of them when they got to the hallway was not one they expected. A Blaziken and a Torchic were singlehandedly fighting off a good six Pokémon, though the Blaziken seemed more on the defense than anything. The selection was a lot more varied this time, too; instead of just fire Pokémon, Chloe spotted that there was a Toxicroak, Liepard, Malamar, Camerupt, Castform, and Whirlipede.
"Ally, Psycho Cut on the Toxicroak, quickly!" Chloe called out, as she fumbled with the rest of her Poké Balls, sending out Sharla quickly too. "Sharla, run interference, try to help out with any of those others! Ren, do the same thing, but specifically use Fire Fang on the Whirlipede!"
"Same for you, Byakuya, you help out the Blaziken and Torchic, and Zangetsu, go attack that Malamar!" Ray yelled out, as he threw his Bisharp's Poké Ball toward the fray. The five Pokémon nodded as they headed off toward their targets. The Typhlosion and Bisharp got between the Liepard and Camerupt before they could slam into the Blaziken again, while Ren bit down on the Whirlipede with flame-covered fangs. The bug screeched out in pain, but thanks to the quick movements of the others, the other Pokémon that could come to its aid was the Castform.
Ally quickly appeared in front of the Toxicroak to cut the frog off, before slicing out with her still-manifested whip-sword. The Toxicroak took a step back to avoid the first strike, but couldn't avoid the second and promptly got slammed through the far wall, dazing it long enough that the Gallade would be able to help with some of the others. Zangetsu was having a little less luck with the Malamar than Chloe's Pokémon were having with their targets. The squid danced around most of the Zangoose's attacks, however he managed to land a Crush Claw on the Pokémon to knock it down. After that point, Zangetsu's luck turned around quite quickly, as the mongoose shot forward and used both arms to strike with X-Scissor. The Malamar proved a lot hardier than Ray had expected, as it still tried to get up from those blows, but he was positive it wouldn't last much longer.
"Argh!! Why do you two continue to interfere?!?!" Julia yelled out in frustration as she saw who the interlopers were this time. Charlie turned in surprise, eyes wide as it suddenly sunk in just what kind of threat he had run from earlier. The other two agents wore a mixed look of frustration, horror, and wonder at everything that had happened in the past few seconds.
"You let them continue to interfere?" One of the other two women asked with a raised eyebrow. "We are Flare, we don't just run from threats like this, even if we lose." The woman reached for a third Poké Ball, but her companion grabbed her arm.
"Wait, Grace, is that really a good idea when they literally have powers back, and we don't? Like, I get that we're... like this, and we're strong with powers normally, but..." The girl attempted to plead to her superior, but Grace simply yanked her arm away.
"Even still, we were given a mission. We can't fail those other two, as they outrank us, remember?" Grace clenched her fist. "How will we ever get promotions if we just run from everything, and leave this fighting to the scientists who shouldn't need to be fighting?"
While the in-fighting was going on, the Torchic let out a trill. Meyer popped his head over to see what was going on, and saw that she was running through the fighting, dodging and jumping over things in order to get over to where Chloe was. The Castform turned to her and saw a quick and easy target to try and attack her, but the Torchic jumped over the cloud and slashed out with her talons. The Castform was stunned enough to allow the Torchic to keep running to the stunned woman.
"... Bree???" Chloe asked, to which the Torchic gave a trill of confirmation. "Is Olivia here?" The Torchic shook her head happily. That simply made Chloe even more confused, but she decided to figure that out after defeating the Flare agents. "Ally, give some assistance, use Psycho Cut on the Castform!" With a nod, the Gallade charged up psychic energy into her whip-sword before swinging it at the Castform, sending out a wave of energy that slashed the normal type and sent it tumbling back through the air once again.
The Typhlosion and Bisharp traded off opponents constantly as they continued to push the Liepard and Camerupt back. The two teamed up on Sharla to try and push her out of the fight, but only succeeded in knocking the Typhlosion back before Byakuya stepped in to slash the Liepard down. The Bisharp took a few moments to make sure that the Liepard was actually out of the fight, but Sharla took the opportunity to body slam the Camerupt in return, chaining punches and kicks into the assault as well. While this was going on, Zangetsu slashed out with another X-Scissor. As much as the Malamar attempted to get back up, it gave a groan and fell to the ground, fainted. Ren was having a little more trouble as her opponent was proving tougher even with repeated bites with the fiery teeth, but she wasn't about to give up now.
Charlie and the woman who was trying to convince Grace to not go through with her plan stepped back from the fight quickly and exchanged looks with each other. "Brianna, let's, uh, cut our losses." Charlie whispered to the woman, who nodded as the two of them recalled the Liepard and Castform before they made a quick escape out the back door.
"Wh- get back here, you two cowards!!!" Julia yelled after Charlie and Brianna, but Grace simply shook her head.
"Leave them. Bryony will deal with them later, if their foolishness doesn't get them caught." Grace said with a cold tone to her voice. "Use Plan D." At Grace's comment, Julia gave an incredulous look to Grace, but nodded with a wide grin. With a simultaneous nod, the two threw one Poké Ball each toward Ray and Chloe. The two Poké Balls opened to reveal a Gengar and Tangrowth respectively, who used their momentum to continue to fly toward the trainers.
Chloe and Ray noticed the Poké Balls too late to actually do anything, but their Pokémon released themselves to help out. Rukia the Froslass, Chad the Crabrawler, Melia the Pikipek, and Simone the Rowlet all popped out to guard against the Pokémon. The Gengar was caught off guard as the Crabrawler took advantage of the Gengar being tangible to clothesline it and the Froslass punched his face. The Tangrowth's momentum was stopped by the two birds, but she still managed to send them flying. Melia and Simone quickly sped back, however, as they pecked at the grass type in rapid succession.
"... What. How. How. HOW???" Julia yelled out in frustration as the scene that was quickly unfolding before her was baffling beyond belief. With frustration, she rummaged through her purse. "Just you wait, once I find my gun, it's all over for you." Grace simply watched her comrade with a look that portrayed that she thought that the woman was completely and utterly useless, but said nothing. When the brunette finally pulled out the gun, she wore a triumphant look on her face. "Bullets won't fail me!" She cried, moments before Chloe took hold of the gun with her psychic powers and yanked it out of her hand. Julia looked at her hand blankly, where the gun had been seconds before, then cried.
"So, will you surrender now?" Chloe asked with her arms crossed, as she stared down Grace. Julia was still there, muttering something under her breath as she stared at her empty hand, saying things like "It was just there, now it's not...". Grace turned her head, her black hair swinging behind her. "Because like, we can keep beating down your Pokémon more if you need that to give up."
"Ugh." Grace looked frustrated. "We will never give up, we will never die." As she said that, her Pokémon began to stand up again. In the distance, the group heard three gunshots go off in quick succession. With Chloe distracted, the woman's Malamar moved to jump at her. However, it was at that point that Meyer's Blaziken stepped in to punch the Malamar down. Meyer jumped out of hiding, leading the doctor he was accompanying around the fallen cabinet too.
"Well, neither will we. Do you really think that we'll just roll over and let Flare take over?" Meyer asked, a determined scowl on his face. "We'll keep fighting you no matter what."
"Yes, we will not give in, do you hear us? Because I am the doctor, and these are my companions!" The doctor who Meyer was protecting said with a smug smile. "So, basically... run."
There was a long silence as the entire room looked at the doctor. "Is he always--"
"Just ignore him." Meyer said quietly to Chloe and Ray. "That's what I do."
"You are all too chatty. We are Flare." Grace growled, as she stepped forward. "Do you have any idea what we can do?"
"Flare can die. Figuratively." Before anyone could register the voice, another gunshot went off, forcing Grace to stumble back as she gripped her leg. Chloe and Ray turned toward the figure who had shown up, as a Ninetales sprung onto the scene and tackled the Tangrowth to the ground as it was about to stand up. Simone and Melia took a break from pecking the living daylights out of the ghost-type to look up at the new arrival. The brown-haired man who had effectively defected from Flare minutes before limped forward with a pained look on his face, as he leveled a gun toward the elite agent. "Go! I'll hold her off too."
"Wait, you're shot, how are you standing--" Ray asked, but noticed that both Grace and Nathan's wounds began to close quicker than anyone's normally should.
"You know, I was in the lab that day. I stayed buried under rubble for twelve years." Nathan said with a grimace, addressing no-one in particular. "I was always led to believe that we were working on something to save the world. I... I guess I was wrong. But I won't let anyone else get fooled, or get hurt!" He looked to Grace with a frown. "It's not too late, you don't have to do this."
"No. Of course I don't have to. But I won't get tricked by the sentimental bullshit. I believe in the mission." Grace shook her head. "You'd have to capture me dead."
"I, uh, think we should get going." Ray said, feeling like this was going nowhere. With a nod, Chloe grabbed his wrist and turned to leave.
"Follow me." Meyer interrupted with a nod to Chloe and Ray. "I think I know the way that the other two went, I think they're higher ranked than the others, so maybe defeating them will end this assault on the hospital."
"Alright... Lead the wa--" Chloe yelped in pain again as she nearly collapsed, but stumbled forward. "Why?" She grumbled under her breath as she struggled to catch her breath. I need to find Colleen as soon as we're done here, this... this doesn't seem good at all.
"Here, I don't know what's going on, but..." Meyer frowned. "I get the feeling you ain't gonna take sitting down as an option, so I'll help you along with the help of that guy. Judging by that Torchic's reaction, you probably know Olivia?" Chloe nodded in response. "Then I doubt she'd want me to just abandon either of you. Lead on, my Blaziken can help as well, even without powers." With a nod from Chloe and Ray, the group set off toward the stairs.

IC - Olivia Seaton (Amethyst) - Slabba Stone, Distortion World:
The intensity of Olivia and Amethyst's glare toward Aliana could not be overstated. The Rocket Agent crossed her arms. "Honestly?" she said. "Unless she has something to offer that we can't just have Amethyst pull from her brain, I don't see a reason to take her with us." As if to emphasize the threat, Am held a hand up, drawing out psychic energy that sparked between her fingers. Olivia looked squarely at the Flare scientist. "So, why don't you tell us exactly why we shouldn't just leave you trapped here for the rest of eternity?"
IC - Kyle Eston (Jaeda)/Colleen Llyan (Lucina, Kammy)/Moira (Talonflame) - Anistar Gym, Anistar City:
Any surprise that Kyle held toward Olympia for somehow knowing his name was quickly swept away in the realization that she was a psychic. He said nothing as they returned through the air to the other side of the arena, behind the line held by Colleen, Ryan, and Zoe. Kyle couldn't help but smile as, from above, he watched the appearance of Entei and the ensuing theatrics. Even without powers, a Legendary Pokémon was no small thing--especially if you had never seen one in person before.
Jaeda touched ground, allowing Kyle and Olympia to slide off of her back. "You'd better listen to him!" Kyle called. "I've seen what that thing can do when he holds back. You wouldn't want to be on the receiving end when he doesn't." Behind him, Jaeda charged her Flamethrower attack again, waiting to see how their opponents would respond.
Colleen gave a glance to Entei, then Ryan and Kyle. Finally, she laid eyes on the Monferno that Lucina and Merida had engaged. As Zoe tried to recall her Medicham, Lucina aimed another strike at the Fire-Fighting-Type. Zeroing in on the Monferno's Aura, Colleen threw a hand forward and clenched her fingers, forcing the monkey to freeze in place--held still as its Aura effectively stiffened around it. This would be a trial-run of the larger effect she was aiming to achieve if the Flare agents didn't surrender.
OOC:
Kammy (SPEED+): Remaining withdrawn Lucina (SPEED+): Palm strike > Monferno Colleen: Aura Stasis > Monferno Jaeda (SPEED+): Holding Flamethrower

IC: Amanda Zarth/Isabella Fontaine/Sylph/James Arthur (The Alamo, Four Island, Sevii Islands)
Amanda and Isa moved to opposite ends of the battlefield, Magnezone and Sylph before them respectively, but before the battle could begin they were interrupted by the arrival of another, a suited man accompanied by a Scizor.
“Executive Arthur,” Amanda greeted. “Your timing is fortunate. We were preparing to attempt the Mega Evolution phenomenon once more.”
Isabella Fontaine was not typically one to gush over someone, but the arrival of the Executive could make a fine exception. As Field Intelligence Executive James Arthur, who had a hand in the defeat of a corrupt politician, who had helped expose corruption in the ranks of Liberty itself, who had appeared on international television alongside a couple of weirdos in masks entered the room, Isabella Fontaine, prim, proper, and poised, allowed herself one quiet, dignified squeal of awe.
Maybe not so quiet. Sylph, at the very least, looked her way and smiled.
Executive Arthur, Sylph said to the man. It’s good to finally meet you. You… may not remember, but my trainer spoke with you to arrange an interview with Meghan Vert. I am Sylph.
James decided not to embarrass the technician who had made a slightly less than perfectly dignified squeal by not calling attention to her. It took a moment for Sylph’s words to come through to James. He missed the first half of her message entirely, and during the second half of the message he found himself staring in reminiscence for a moment. When the message finally came through, he for a moment felt like apologizing for whatever trouble Mordred undoubtedly inflicted on them. But as Sylph was not already baying for his head, he would give the Weavile the benefit of the doubt until he saw him again.
“The pleasure is mine,” James said. “Your trainer was Agent… Cruize if I recall correctly.”
That is correct, she said. He is unfortunately not able to join us for this training today. Technician Fontaine will be filling in for him here.
Amanda nodded in confirmation. “This exercise will, in addition to its other objectives, provide beginning data regarding the viability of Pokémon engaging in the Mega Evolution phenomenon through bonds with individuals other than their primary Trainer.” Amanda paused, consulting her notes. “Actually, your availability is doubly fortunate. It will allow us to test an unexpected interaction that has been occurring between Sylph and one of my Magnezone’s moves. If I may ask, does your Scizor know a Steel-type move?” Sylph grimaced at the question.
James could have responded with a joke, but past experience had taught him that Amanda was being completely serious in asking the question. “Yes, he currently knows Bullet Punch. And there have been no problems with its use since gaining his powers back.”
Sylph audibly groaned. “In the interest of fair experimentation, I suppose you’re going to insist on testing the interaction with a steel-type move before the battle?”
“Unnecessary,” Amanda said, shaking her head. “A battle interaction is best tested under battle conditions, especially as the observation we are attempting to replicate also occurred in the course of battle. Additionally, a Double Battle against Executive Arthur will allow me to confirm whether my Magnezone’s Flash Cannon retains its expected elemental properties, as a Steel-type move should, in theory, remain ineffective against a Bug-and-Steel-type.” The Plasma Knight regarded the Scizor in question with a rueful hum. “It is unfortunate that Scizor cannot learn offensive Fire-type moves. It would be a notably expedient manner to test whether or not Sylph possesses the other requisite properties of two Types that are already known to be vulnerable to the Steel Type.”
Sylph stared at Amanda like she had grown a second head. Finally, she replied. “Amanda, I believe I would have noticed if I suddenly had the physiology of an Ice- or Rock-type. I am the same temperature as I have always been, and I don’t suddenly have stone-like skin covering my entire body.” As she said it, Isa came up behind her and poked her in the side, causing the Gardevoir to jump and squeak in surprise.
“Yep, nope, that’s still soft and Gardevoir-ish,” the Technician said.
Amanda inclined her head in acknowledgement. “I grant that it is unlikely, but given the unusual circumstances it seems prudent to test. I have heard of both Rock-types and Steel-types from the Alola region that defy the usual stereotypes of their elemental affinities, after all.”
“Well, the point is moot regardless, as Lancelot cannot learn any Fire moves, and your Magnezone doesn’t know any, so we can’t test that. Same for water moves, unfortunately.” Sylph shrugged. “However, in terms of hitting me with Bullet Punch, I do have some concerns. If we’re in the middle of a battle, my goal is to not get hit by the attack. Either I’m resisting the experiment, or I’m biasing the results of another experiment -- that is, the battle to see if I can evolve again under Isa’s instruction.”
“Granted, but the Mega Evolution experiment is of higher priority, as the phenomenon seems to restore powers to the Pokémon who undergo the process. I would rather not risk rendering you unable to battle prior to performing the Mega Evolution test; gaining data on the anomalous Type interactions will be helpful if it occurs, but is of secondary importance.”
James looked from Sylph to the other two and back more than once during the interaction. He actually hadn’t seen a talking Gardevoir before. Not one that practiced real human speech, and it did catch him off guard. However as the other two didn’t seem to react too much to her speech, he decided that making a big deal of it was unproductive. He also chose not to react to Sylph knowing the name Lancelot. Probably telepathy, but it was possible she had heard the name before today.
“For the record,” James said pulling out an Ultra Ball and tossing it to the ground. Percival popped out of the Ultra Ball and bobbed around happily in the air. “Sir Percival regained his powers during my activities in Alola, and achieved ‘Mega Evolution’ as it were. If you need Fire attacks to test a theory, we can supply.”
“And,” James said, looking towards Lancelot with a bit of pride, “if you are worried that will not get hit by a Bullet Punch during an actual battle, I would like to know why you are so confident that you can evade my champion for long.”
Sylph smiled coyly. “Monsieur Arthur, I dare say that I can teleport across an arena and release an attack far quicker than even the fastest of Scizor can fly to where I am at and attack with a Bullet Punch. My usual method for dealing with physical aggressors is to simply not let them get physical.”
“My, my. Are you that confident in your teleportation abilities?” James said, eyeing the Gardevoir before him.
Lancelot’s eyes began to burn, glaring directly at the Gardevoir before him. His wings were shivering with anticipation.
“We have high standards with regards to teleportation,” James said.
---[President]--- (President’s Office, Lumiose City, Kalos, August 13th, 2017, 12:07 A.M.)
Alex collapsed to their knees, too weak from shock to stand. Weak… weak… useless… burden… “No…” they whimpered, the trauma too much to process any further. They watched Jamie and Lucia leaping into action as if an entirely separate person had taken their place. They burned to jump, to move, to do something of worth, but their urges seemed to hit a wall before they even left their head, let alone reached their detached body. It felt like their heart had stopped alongside their father’s, but surely that couldn’t be the case; after all, Didi was specially trained to--
But no, that wasn’t right. Didi was just as useless as they were, powerless to fulfil her purpose and save a life. Some distant corner of their mind took umbrage with the thought, but it was swept away by the dull roar that seemed to have filled their ears. Didi, Bliss, Sylph -- no, Sylvia -- all of them powerless to assist. They didn’t even know Raleigh or Coralie’s Moves, let alone have the ability to use them to help. But really, the powers weren’t the problem, they were.
Alex’s Pokémon had fought faithfully throughout the power loss, some of them across multiple dimensions against fully-powered enemies. They had the will, the determination, the creativity to help -- but Alex had failed to ask for help, kept them confined to the capsules keeping them from the world. Even now, the orbs lay silent, Alex’s stunned state too much even to reach for their best friends, for the comfort of a consoling touch. The incubator lay at their feet, thankfully unharmed by the chaos. The egg within wobbled, but soon stilled, and the Trainer blankly reached for the device, heedless to its activity.
Chalmers sat up, their face a horrific mess of smeared blood and grime but otherwise entirely uninjured. With the room’s other three occupants otherwise occupied, he reached for a pair of Pokéballs and prepared to activate them. With his Braviary currently holding the attention of the majority of the Pokémon in the room, he threw one ball in a high arc while slamming the other next to him. The former released a lithe, feminine reptile, a Fire- and Poison-type imported from a foreign Region. “Kill the boy,” he ordered, breaking his silence for the first time since Jamie’s brutal beating, “Ezekiel’s failed experiment is a waste of air and a blight on our Team.”
The latter ball required no orders. Ignoring the Steel-type currently clutching its Trainer, the Dragalge spewed a wave of noxious toxins that hissed and bubbled as it ate toward the transformed Audino and her patient. In its wake, the floor began to creak and groan as a hole appeared and began expanding with alarming alacrity.
Tristan grabbed for the Dragalge. He wanted to speed to Lucia’s defense, but preventing the Dragalge from doing any more harm was the top priority. Pelleas spread his wings and moved to make a stab at the Braviary with his horn.
Lucan’s right head was looking at Jamie, trying to comfort her. She was still shaking, unable to calm her body. Lucan’s left head turned and saw the Salazzle move. The left head knew that Jamie needed help, but saving a life had to take priority. He cried to his other head, who turned and saw the problem. Both were shaking, but knew what had to be done. They both looked at the Buizel, who nodded back at them. He span around and flew at the Salazzle. He wouldn’t let more tragedy happen today.
“Audinaga!”
The urgency of Lucia’s call grabbed the Audino’s attention, and she instinctively whipped her head around toward the Dragalge. With the wave encroaching on their position, she had little choice but to grab Lionel, trusting that her healing abilities had closed the wound enough to ensure a safe movement. With Lucia’s help, the Hearing Pokémon pulled him away from the doorway, away from Chalmers and his Pokémon, away from the melting floorspace, and over toward the nearest corner, where wall and window met.
Lucia gave Lionel a cursory look to make sure he was still breathing before pushing herself to her feet, waving a hand to Audinaga behind her. “Keep him safe,” she ordered. The Rocket Agent turned her glare toward Chalmers and Dragalge, pulling Claraga’s Poké Ball from her belt. As Tristan took a swing at the Mock Kelp Pokémon, Lucia hurled the ball forward. Claraga emerged, flying forward through the air, and aimed to clamp her massive claw around the Poison-Dragon-Type’s throat.
On the other side of the room, Megara took advantage of Pelleas’s intervention to attack the Braviary. With a bellowing roar, the Meganium reared up and kicked her powerful forelegs at the Flying-Type’s chest, putting as much force as she could into crushing her opponent’s ribcage.
Rather than resisting the blow -- which, worryingly, did not seem to be doing nearly as much damage as it ought -- the Braviary screeched a challenge and dug its talons into the Meganium, letting the Grass-Type’s own imparted momentum add to the flapping of its wings, carrying them both across the room and conveniently placing them directly into both Claraga’s and Pelleas’ path. There was a hitch in the Flying-Type’s wings as it continued flapping, the first sign of noticeable damage aside from ruffled feathers, but the brave bird seemed otherwise undaunted by the bevy of opponents it now faced.
The Dragalge took advantage of the respite to regurgitate more acid beneath the melee, the newly-weakened floorboards now no longer sufficient to bear the weight of the heavy Meganium. It was significantly less mobile on land as it would be in the water, and it felt the Metagross get a firm grip of its seaweed-like streamers, but the Poison-Type remained unconcerned… as did its Trainer.
The Salazzle hissed in annoyance at the Vanilluxe, making to simply scamper around it, but the Ice-Type got in its way. It changed directions, but the opponent was there again, and again, and again once more. Fed up with its enemy’s determination, the Fire-Type gave its full attention to the apparently-suicidal Ice-Type, slashing with clawed hands before lunging in for a savage bite. The reptilian Pokémon’s tail cracked like a whip, the Fire-Type keeping a wary eye on its opponents to ensure it would not be ambushed.
Akamaro Chalmers resisted the urge to chuckle. With one leg firmly in the Metagross’ grasp, he had been dragged along as his captor lunged for his Dragalge. This, fortunately, put him within easy arm’s reach of a rather important office feature. The Flare Admin calmly reached up and thumbed the button, before waiting with a grin for his opportune moment.
---[Distortion World]---
Aliana considered the questions. “Given my own, admittedly limited, ability in the realm of psionic manipulation, I do not believe that a mental probe would provide coherent information. As I lack experience in the field, however, I will of course defer to an expert, and there is, of course, little need to take by force what has been freely given.” She hummed in consideration. “I made significant contributions to a certain project led by another scientist. Though I was removed from the project after its initial failure and was not consulted for its successor, I still had access to the data and can provide preliminary information regarding the new project’s current abilities. Additionally, I believe I have information regarding the whereabouts of the missing results of Dr. Alderson’s original project. Lysandre is not aware of my knowledge regarding these matters.” The scientist tilted her head and eventually nodded to herself. “Finally, I am, as you may have noted, invulnerable to the majority of mortal hazards. Provided I am not set against certain new assets of Team Flare, I believe this would be more than sufficient to provide use as a… I believe the common term at this time is ‘meat-shield’?”
“How DARE you!”
Aliana spun to see Mable, a bloody snapped-off chair leg in one hand. With the other, the blue-haired scientist stroked her throat, the last traces of a nasty wound closing up beneath it. “Mable,” Aliana acknowledged, “these three were just asking about you.”
“Shut up, traitor!” Mable spat. “Stupid… weak…”
Aliana shook her head. “Logical. It was illogical to resist Lysandre once he approached me. With our record, however, it is no longer logical to do so.”
“I don’t care! Why should I care about someone who’s not on my side? Just DIE already!”
As Mable charged, Aliana darted to the side, tearing up a fledgling vine by the roots. Though near-useless as a weapon, Aliana still lashed out skillfully, aiming to trip or tangle her opponent as she dodged and rolled. With a careful flick of the wrist, she managed to wrap the plant around Mable’s own improvised weapon -- only for Mable to tear the vine out of her hands and throw both weapons aside. The blue-haired scientist slammed the heel of her hand into Aliana’s nose before leaping into the air and delivering a kick to the chin that sent Aliana sprawling. Mable unsheathed a dagger from some hidden holster as she pinned Aliana to the ground.
“We’ve always been weak… but now I realize… it’s you. You’ve been the one…”
Aliana froze as she realized what was coming.
“…the one alway holding me BACK!” Mable plunged the knife into Aliana, again and again, four, five times before her own strength finally gave out.
Aliana gave a bloody cough. “This… this won’t…”
“Shut up! I’ll… I’ll keep at it! Until the end of time! Until I’ve proved that I’m-- HURK”
Mable’s heart stopped in her chest. A moment later, Aliana’s Gourgeist faded into visibility, one arm extended into the scientist. The moment after that, Mable’s heart was outside of her chest, and the Ghost-type used its free limb to shove her aside.
Blood bubbled from Mable’s lips. “S… stronger than…” she gurgled before slipping over the edge.
Still bleeding herself, Aliana locked eyes with Amethyst, and opened her mind.
---League---
“I…” Elaine began. “Malva I…” Suddenly, Alex screamed. Elaine spun to see Emily continuing to attack her cousin, ignoring her father’s injury in favor of… of madness. “Emily! What are you doing?! How could you possibly side with…?”
“She knows the winning side.” Malva walked over to the fainted Absol weighing her Houndoom down and kicked cruelly at its horn, snapping off the tip of the scythe. “Do you?”
Elaine paused. “Malva…” The professor clenched her fists. “You know I can’t.”
Malva nodded. “Sticking to your work. Seeing it through.”
“Yes.”
“Pity.” The Elite Four member sighed. “I always respected your dedication. Goodbye, Alderson.”
The next thing Elaine knew was all-consuming flame, and then--
Nothing.

-==IC: Chloe Hikari(Typhlosion/Luxray/Gallade/Rowlet/Pikipek)/Ray Hakuda(Zangoose/Bisharp/Froslass/Crawbrawler)/Meyer(Blaziken/Torchic)/Dr. Smith(Not a dang thing) - Lumiose Hospital==-
The group and the veritable menagerie of Pokémon hurried down the hallways, Chloe wondered what the goal here even was. For all the chaos that had been happening, this seemed off the beaten path for anything that she could think Flare might want. "Meyer," She said, not slowing down to discuss this. "Why are they even attacking?"
The man seemed to pause, as if he knew more about the situation than he had previously let on. "Well, uh, you see..." He bit his lip as he seemed to consider something. "See, I've fought against these jerks before. But never like..." Meyer motioned to his clothing. "Like this. I fought against one of the scientists years ago, and won. Then it turned out the bastard had an illness that landed him in here." The man sighed as he focused straight ahead. "I swore to make sure my children never got put in harm's way again. And now I feel both like I've failed, and like I caught a lucky break having you two come to our rescue." He looked over with a chuckle. "And with Pokémon that can actually fight back, to boot! I don't know which deity I have to thank for this, but... we might actually stand a chance against those two now. They should be on the second floor, going after Xerosic to make sure he comes with them -- dead or alive."
Chloe nodded silently as she kept her focus on what awaited them ahead. As they turned down the hall that led to the hospital, however, the group nearly ran straight into a mobile bed being pushed by two women in dark red jackets, both wearing fancy headgear that Chloe couldn't even guess the purpose of. The two women seemed just as surprised by the sudden appearance as the rest of the group. However, the green-haired woman frowned upon registering the mob awaiting the two of them.
"Celosia," She began, tapping a button on the side of her headwear. "I would wager that there is a 75% chance that these are the interlopers that the grunts have been complaining about since we got to Xerosic's room."
"Oh, who cares, Bryony?! Don't you think it's an embarrassment that even the elite agents completely failed to stop two kids, a washed up old man, and... whoever that guy is? Clearly they need to be taught a lesson when we get done here." The purple-haired woman, apparently named Celosia, wore a cruel smile on her face as she shoved the bed out of the way while simultaneously grabbing for her Poké Balls. "Drapion, Aegislash, Manectric! Let's show them just how bad an idea it was to get in our way! If we want to win... then we'll just have to land the first blow!"
Chloe's eyes widened as the Drapion dashed forward at quicker speed than she anticipated. She held up her hand, about to command Ally to intercept the tail strike the scorpion was about to land, but Ray and Zangetsu were faster. She watched as the Zangoose blocked the blow with crossed claws, and Byakuya ran forward to strike with his arm blades. "We got this, Chloe, focus on that Aegislash instead!" Ray called out, which made Chloe nod. She didn't feel comfortable with the idea of synchronizing with Ally when she was being affected by whatever was causing her pain, but didn't need that when she had her telepathy.
"Ally, use Shadow Sneak! Make sure to keep that Aegislash occupied, too!" Chloe called out over telepathy as she held her hand forward. "Ren, Sharla, deal with the Manectric however you can!" Without acknowledging they heard directly, the three Pokémon leaped into action. Ally vanished briefly, before using her shadow as a marker to teleport to where the Aegislash was. She sliced out with her whip-sword, but the spectral sword Pokémon blocked it with her shield, although she seemed to take damage from the strike in the process. Meanwhile, Ren leaped at the Manectric with her jaw covered in freezing energy. Sharla leaped over the dog-like Pokémon and kicked out, attempting to knock her into the Ice Fang attack. However, the Manectric nimbly dodged out of the way and let out a low growl toward her opponents.
There was a moment of stunned realization on the part of both of the women as they realized just what odds they were up against. "Celosia." Bryony said again, this time with an annoyed look on her face. "There is a 100% chance that you did not land the first blow just now, and therefore a 67% chance that you will lose to these Pokémon who have somehow gotten their powers back, especially without accepting my help." She flung out two of her three Poké Balls after saying that, not even bothering to wait for a response. A Liepard and a Bisharp of her own leapt into the fight quickly -- the Liepard crashed into the Typhlosion, which created a rather strong sense of déjà vu in the fire-type, while the Bisharp kicked away Byakuya. Sharla growled at the Liepard, while the two Bisharp rushed toward each other and clashed swords.
The Drapion and Zangoose dueled with their respective arm claws. As they fought, Zangetsu made sure to dance around the tail that attempted to stab him constantly. Drapion's eyes widened as a Crush Claw struck her in the torso and forced her to stumble back. The tide had turned there as the Zangoose pushed forward, slashing out again and again with Crush Claw. The Drapion turned from attacking to guarding very quickly, as she staggered back from the powerful blows. The Manectric and Luxray clashed with angry expressions, as they traded bites and claws. Chad and Melia both tried to help out by keeping the Manectric in place, however the Manectric was able to dodge most of the unpowered attacks. The electric-type slammed into Chad, nearly knocking him out of the fight, and then swatted the Pikipek to the ground with a growl.
"Wh- Melia!" Chloe cried out, as Ren crunched down on the leg of the Manectric for long enough to allow the bird to slowly get up. She turned her head as she watched Simone team up with Rukia in an attempt to help out against the Aegislash. However, the steely ghost slashed out at the two, knocking down the Rowlet and Froslass as Chloe and Ray could only watch. However, the Rowlet pushed herself back to a standing position. Despite the smug look that the Aegislash wore, Ally and Meyer's Blaziken made a tag-team attack that smashed into the Aegislash's main body. The Aegislash winced from the burn that the Gallade's blazing swords inflicted, starting to feel overwhelmed by Ally's overwhelming strength.
The tiny Torchic glanced around to see how she might be able to help out. She dashed forward with a trill, then slashed out at the Manectric's backside. The electric type yelped out in pain, but when she spun around to try and strike the Torchic, the tiny fire-type had already vanished. In the time taken to search, Ren jumped the Manectric with an Ice Fang attack. She pinned her fellow electric type to the ground with a smug smile on her maw.
"Bree, don't! Just get back over here, it's too dangerous in this fight!" Chloe called out, as she fumbled for the Torchic's Poké Ball along with the Poké Balls for her own two birds. However, to her dismay, she realized that either Olivia had it, or Meyer probably did. She was about to ask the bearded man for the Torchic's Poké Ball, when Bryony let out a long sigh.
"There is a 90% chance that this is going downhill fast. Mawile, help us out, would you kindly?" Bryony asked as she tossed the third sphere forward finally. The Pokémon that appeared was a wild-looking Mawile that growled menacingly at the group. With alarming speed, the steel-type shot forward, swinging the jaw on the back of her head around as if it were a mace. She attacked indiscriminately, bashing aside Celosia's Aegislash and Manectric as she went after the opponents with a feral look in her eyes. Ally and Meyer's Blaziken jumped out of the way, but Meyer's eyes widened as he realized the direction that the Mawile was headed in.
"Blaziken, intercept that Mawile, quickly!!!" Meyer ordered, as the Blaziken fearfully nodded. Ally followed quickly in horror as she attempted to teleport into the Mawile's way. However, it didn't stop the Pokémon, as the Gallade was clubbed out of the way and tumbled to the ground. Ally looked up as she tried to move, watching helplessly as the Mawile slammed Melia, Simone, Rukia, and Chad into the walls, stunning them and managing to knock Rukia and Chad out of the fight entirely. At the noise, Bree looked up in surprise. The surprise turned to a look of fear of her own, as the Mawile fast approached her. Meyer's Blaziken was right behind the Deceiver Pokémon, fist pulled back as he leaped to get to the steel-type before anything bad could happen.
A loud crushing sound happened as the Blaziken's fist collided with the ground.
The Mawile was right in front of Bree now.
Opponents forgotten, Sharla, Byakuya, and Zangetsu all tried to intervene before the fight could turn tragic. However, their opponents all stood in their path, a sinister look on each of their faces. Chloe could only look on in horror, a sinking feeling in her chest as she imagined the worst.
The feral and wild-looking Pokémon reared back her makeshift flail.
Like a bolt from the blue, a black figure shot forward with a Quick Attack, her own opponent having been distracted by the Mawile's rampage. Ren quickly got in between Bree and the Mawile's mouth, wincing as the makeshift attack hurt a lot more than she expected. However, her positioning turned out to be her downfall, as the force behind the blow sent her flying, bowling over the Torchic in the process.
Bryony laughed with a smile on her face. "There is a 99% chance that this has just turned the tide for us. We have this in the bag now, Celosia." The scientist grinned to her compatriot. The other woman simply scowled and shook her head at the green-haired woman's newfound smugness.
"Whatever! Let's just crush the rest of them so we can get back to our real objective!!!" Celosia clenched her fist, wiping away a piece of the floor that had struck her face when the Blaziken punched the ground. The Aegislash and Manectric slowly pulled themselves upright once again, a lust for blood in their eyes as they glared at their opponents.
"Bree! Melia!! Simone!!!" Chloe watched helplessly, scared to even move as the Mawile turned her sights on the trainers and the Pokémon still conscious. The psychic woman clenched her fists, as a determination rose up in her. Ally slowly pushed herself to her feet, as Sharla let out a loud roar. Bree stirred with a soft trill as she looked around the room from her place on the floor. Melia and Simone, despite being on the brink of exhaustion, were both standing back up. Ren laid motionless near the small chick, only the soft breathing showing that the Luxray was still alive. The Torchic closed her eyes, as she felt a warmness well up in her chest.
A soft light began to glow around the Torchic, as she opened her eyes with a determined look. She thought she heard yelling in the distance, but the adrenaline coursing through her veins made it tough to tell exactly who was saying what. Bree struggled to stand back up, as she saw similar glowing light surround the Pikipek and Rowlet. The fire-type used her wings to push herself back into a standing position, ignoring the screaming of her body. And as she watched, a rainbow light began to emanate from three distinctly different sources, bringing a glow that blinded even Bryony and Celosia briefly.
When the lightshow stopped, Chloe, Ray, and Meyer all stood stunned and speechless. Not only had Zangetsu gone through the same odd evolution that he had back in Vertrag, not only had Sharla and Meyer's Blaziken also evolved into mysterious new forms, but Bree, Melia, and Simone all stood in their respective second evolutions now.
"Everyone..." Chloe finally managed to say, as she looked at not only the Typhlosion with flames burning bright just like Ryan's Typhlosion had been, but also to her new Trumbeak and Dartrix. Her eyes fell on Bree finally, as the newly evolved Combusken stared defiantly at her opponents, a cocky smirk on the Combusken's face.
"What..." Celosia finally managed to say, her clenched fist shaking in anger. "What is this?! That's that effect that keeps popping up! How could these... these nobodies have it?!" She stepped back, eyes widened in anger. "It... doesn't matter! We'll just have to crush these ones too!!" Celosia laughed as she took on a serious look, an out of place smile on her face. "Manectric--"
The woman never got a chance to finish her sentence, as a very angry Blaziken with flames trailing off his arms dashed forward toward the Manectric in question and punched her square in the jaw with a full force Close Combat punch. All the power was placed in the one punch, backed up by the sheer power granted by the Blaziken's brand new form. The Manectric's eyes bulged as there was a brief moment of extremely slowed time when the attack struck home. This was followed by several seconds of pain, as the Manectric was sent flying straight through the wall of solid everything keeping the inside of the hospital from being, well, outside.
Celosia stood, stunned at the sheer power that was on display. A similar attack was used on the Aegislash and Mawile, as Sharla let loose an Eruption that covered the two steel types in flames and melted a veritable hole in the wall. The two opponents tried their best to withstand the fiery assault, but just as soon as it was over, there was a rolling Typhlosion to slam into them. The Aegislash and Mawile were sent through the hole to join the Manectric already outside. The two scientists ran toward the holes to check on their respective Pokémon, before both finding their backs on fire from a fiery foot that slammed into them courtesy of a Blaziken.
"Well, well... time to see if you're as immortal as your underlings seemed to be." Meyer said, as he cracked his knuckles. He gingerly stepped outside through the makeshift exit, as Doctor Smith took the unspoken sign to go and get Xerosic to a safer location in the hospital. Once outside, he quickly stepped to the side as the Liepard and Drapion followed suit not long after. The two Bisharp continued to clash with each other inside the hospital, unaware of the change in venues. The rest of the trainers and Pokémon filed out of the hole made by the Manectric's exit, taking up stances against Bryony and Celosia, who seemed to not be moving.
"Just give up now, and no-one else needs to be hurt." Chloe said, Ally and Sharla standing by her as if to silently back up what she said. Ray and Zangetsu stood nearby with serious looks on their faces, as did Meyer and Blaziken. However, there was a weak laughter from Celosia, as she pushed herself to her feet, eyes looking as feral as the Mawile's behind her broken headwear.
"Give up? Give up? I think not! Why should we?" The was a growl of pain as the scientist staggered to her feet, a look of pure fury in her eyes, though she acted like she had been dazed from the previous attack. Nearby, Bryony began to stand up as well, alongside the Manectric and Mawile. "We are Flare! We are Lysandre's hand-picked helpers! We won't lose to nobodies like you! We won't be embarrassments like last time!" A rainbow light began to glow around the Manectric as she spoke. With a roar, the light shone brightly for a few seconds before the shell of light shattered, revealing a jagged lightning bolt-like Manectric. The creature howled in rage, as she stared down Chloe and company.
Celosia grinned with a stereotypical evil laugh. "We're just getting started."

OOC: Bunnying Olivia and Am with Parugi's permission IC: Dahlia Seaton/Klim Prizak/Olivia Seaton/Mega Amethyst - Distortion WorldDahlia brought a hand to her mouth as she took an involuntary step back. Her eyes darted between Aliana and the Gourgeist. "H-how could you . . . ?" Taking a deep breath, Dahlia forced herself to focus. Klim took note of his protege's concentration and quickly stepped in to say what she could not. "On second thought, I retract my earlier statement." The former Hero brought a hand up in front of his face, a pose no doubt borrowed from Evan Tierra. "They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but that doesn't take into consideration the enemy of my enemy being completely psychotic." He exchanged a glance with Amethyst before narrowing his eyes at the mad scientist. "I hate to burst your bubble, but Temple of Dooming your former coworker isn't the sign of a reformed woman. You only quit Flare because they no longer serve your needs. I wonder what will happen to us when you decide we're as useless to you as Flare? It's certainly not worth what little information you can provide about Flare's current plans." From the moment the scientist had first opened up her mind, Amethyst had latched onto the mental opening and proceeded to siphon out everything she could. It wasn't until she detected that Dahlia was ready that she pulled her mind out of Aliana's and erected a psychic barrier between the group and the former Flare scientist. Once again, Dahlia clawed through the air. Once again the dimensional fabric ripped open and a portal appeared behind the companions. It was smaller than the previous portal, only large enough for one person at a time. Better than risking another out of control portal. Without a backward glance, Dahlia turned around and leapt through the rift. One by one the others followed: Dracos, Asriel, Olivia, Klim, and Moriarty. Amethyst was last, her energy focused on maintaining the psychic barrier to prevent Aliana or her Pokémon from following. If you haven't figured it out by now, she projected onto the mental plane. We don't work with fascists. Flipping her fingers in a crude gesture, the transformed Gardevoir leapt backwards through the portal. * * * Dahlia landed in the middle of a dark street. The glowing tower in the distance indicated they were still in Lumiose City, although she couldn't tell which part. She focused on maintaining the portal at a reasonable size until all her friends had leapt through. Once Amethyst emerged, the Heroine of Reverse began to close the portal and seal the scientist in the Distortion World for good.

"ELAINE!" James Cruize shouted. The wound on his back was already closing itself up as he saw his sister consumed by flames. Ignoring the Gallade still threatening him, he lunged forward. "Inigo! Khan! KILL!" As he shouted, the two Pokémon surged toward Malva and her Houndoom Energy was radiating off of the two, forming rainbow wisps that quickly became the tell-tale glow.
Two rainbow shells exploded, two Mega Pokémon emerged. Inigo's cape billowed as he repeatedly brought his newly enhanced sword arm down onto the Houndoom's head and neck, bone splintering, blood flying out.
Shere Khan emerged, the leap he had been making turning into a form of flight, black thunderheads swirling around his four paws. His stripes had shifted, forming dark lightning bolt patterns against his fur, and electricity crackled around him. With his newfound Electric typing, he knew exactly what to do. Fangs crackling with barely restrained lightning, the Legendary Pokémon flew into the Charizard that Empoleon and Absol were harakeeping in place. Hard jaws came down on the enemy combatant's neck and ripped through. The faux-dragon's head fell to the ground with a wet smack.
The Charizard kept roaring, though the sound was growing weaker with each second.
Emily stared in horror at Alex, at Elaine's burning form. What had she done? What had she done?!
She whistled, and Spitfire and Ronin both broke away, coming towards her. She pointed. "Ronin, get Malva! Spitfire, distract that Gallade!" As they went to obey, she rushed over to her cousin, pulling her pack off of her shoulder and digging for her first aid kit. "Alex, fuck, I..."
The Talonflame flew high, then came down much as he had with Alex, claws digging into unsuspecting flesh.
Ronin buzzed around, but paused as another Charizard stood in his way, menacing, until Calem shouted "Tyrantrum, make a path!" Fully ten feet of angry dinosaur lunged forward, head lowered in an imitation of a Skull Bash against the Charizard, knocking it bodily aside for Ronin to close in on his target.
Serena was staring in horror at the graphic displays. She had seen her fair share of bloodshed in the days of Flare, but that had always been the bad guys causing it! She shook her head, banishing the thought for now. "Absol, help them! Get Malva!"

The world went still as the Entei emerged. Well, besides the Sneasel crying out in pain from a point blank Flame Wheel. And the Monferno screeching as it fainted. And the Flareon still attacking Kammy.
The world went kinda sorta still. Olympia smiled a bit at Ryan. "Very impressive, I feel I should say to you. An Entei, how rare!"
The three Flare Agents were staring, pale-faced and wide-eyed at the Beast. Carrie snarled. "Fuck you! I'll call your bluff, a lot of Legends still haven't gotten their attacks back! Get them, guys!"
One of the agents fumbled at his belt and withdrew a Poké Ball. For a moment, he froze, then said. "Monferno, return! I'm not testing that thing just for a stupid city in the ass-end of Kalos!" He turned and ran for the back rooms of the gym.
The other two quickly followed suit, none wanting to deal with even an unpowered Entei.
Leaving Carrie alone. "Fine! I don't need them! I've never needed them! Medicham, let's do this!"

Alma took a deep breath and willed power into the symbol of blood she had drawn on the Professor's chest. It had taken a few minutes of flipping through the book to find the right symbol and words to use, but now here they were.
"Hear me, spirits! This man lies wounded through malevolence directed at him! Let blood pay for blood, life pay for life! Heal him, by my power and will as a Practitioner!" Light flared, the bloody sigil being consumed as bones shifted and mended, bruises vanished from the Professor's damaged neck and back.
A moment later, Augustine Sycamore sat up. He still looked older than he had, his hair having gone mostly white, but he offered a warm smile. "Why, I feel twenty years younger! Young lady, what was that?"
Alma smiled, but kept silent. Belle walked over to help the professor to his feet. "Glad yer feelin' better, Professor. Now, what the hell's goin' on here?"
"I have no idea. A person I thought was an old pupil of mine burst into the room and just... attacked me. I was hoping you could explain."

IC: Alex Lockwood - Kalos Pokémon League Even as Emily dug through her bag, Alex's Braviary swooped down to land between the two. The eagle spread his wings and screeched a warning to Emily. Alex found himself secretly grateful for his Pokémon's response. He didn't know how to feel about his cousin at the moment, and thanks to Braviary he didn't have to decide whether or not he trusted her.
From behind the screeching bird, Alex could see the look of panic on Emily's face. Her regret seemed genuine, but that alone didn't excuse her for attacking him. "You'd better have a very good explanation for this," he said, unable to hide his wariness.
Once he was free from Ronin's attack, Swampert wanted to charge after Emily. With Braviary already handling that particular situation, the mud fish Pokémon instead turned his attention to the other injured member of their team. He charged towards Malva and her Houndoom, swinging an arm at both of them. The attack was meant less to damage his enemies and more to ward them off so he could grab Absol and retreat him to safety -- assuming anywhere was safe.
With one Charizard reduced to the threat of a headless overgrown chicken, Empoleon turned toward the second fiery lizard. As Ronin closed in on the Charizard, so too did Empoleon, flippers outstretched to impale it just like its brethren.

IC: Ryan Sanders/Zoe Llyan/Kyle Eston/Colleen Llyan/Yvette/Moira - Anistar Gym, Anistar City The battlefield had changed drastically. With her more brightly-clad allies gone, the plainly-clothed girl and her Medicham became the sole targets of everyone in the room. Everyone besides Merida, who vanished in a flash of light as Zoe succeeded in retreating her.
Colleen acted first, attempting to create the same field of stiffened Aura around their two opponents as she had with the Monferno. Under Colleen's power the Flare girl and her Medicham would effectively be frozen in place, unable to move as they became surrounded.
Quil rolled up to the pair from one side. Wisps of fire licked out of his mouth as he charged up a Flamethrower. From the other side, Kammy came out of her shell. While she lacked the abilities of her fiery counterpart, she still boasted nearly 200 pounds of pure turtle power. From the front, Lucina took on a fighting pose while Entei poised himself to pounce. Lastly, Jaeda took to the skies, flying over the Flare pair to rain down her Flamethrower from above.
Ryan folded his arms across his chest. "You sure you don't want to surrender?" he called out.

As Lachina headed toward the Fossil Lab, two people tried their best to look inconspicuous behind her, trailing back a number of paces. Once the girl had entered the lab, one of the two nudged their partner.
"Logan, look, think that's a coincidence?"
The man rolled his eyes. "Everything's a conspiracy to you. Obviously that's just a girl looking into fossils at..." Logan paused and checked his watch. "... 11:30 at night. Okay, definitely doesn't seem like a coincidence now. Let's go."
As Lachina walked into the lab, a particularly snobby-looking man pushed up his glasses and gave the girl a disdainful look. "And exactly how could I help you, miss? If you hadn't noticed, it's nearly midnight. Shouldn't kids like you be in bed or something?"

Emily pulled out a super potion, holding it carefully for Alex to take before opening her first aid kit and digging out the iodine and bandages. "I... don't," she admitted. "I don't know what the fuck I was thinking..." Her heart was beating hard in her chest, and a dull pain was beginning to throb behind her eyes. "I'm so fucking sorry."
The hammer arm was the finisher for the Houndoom after Absol's stabbing and Inigo's Close Combat. The fire-type was toppled, still conscious until Inigo brought his blade down with a splatter of blood. Malva was bowled off of her feet and stared defiantly up at the two Pokémon who had just taken out her most trusted Pokémon. A blur flew over the Swampert, and bloody scythes came down on Malva's throat.
The remaining Charizard flapped its wings hard in an attempt to avoid the Empoleon's flipper, but Serena's Absol leaped forward as well, scythe digging into the fold of his wing and dragging him down to be impaled by the Emperor Pokémon. As he struggled, Shere Khan joined in, his fangs flashing with more lightning to sever the Charizard's wing from its body.
With a roar of anger, the beast opened ts maw, and a beam of solar energy came forth, hitting the Arcanine pointblank.
The Gallade was swiping futilely at Spitfire, who was circling around to keep it distracted.
The Flare Administrator whose Charizard had just been decapitated snarled and reached into his jacket, pulling a gun. He paused as he tried to decide who to shoot, and then aimed at the least defended target -- the girl who had turned against her friends and then just as quickly moved to help them. He smirked and pulled the trigger.

IC: Isabella Fontaine [Sylph 100%]/Amanda Zarth [Magnezone 100%]/James Arthur [Lancelot 100%/Percival 100%]
“Right, are we ready then?” Isa asked from her spot at the edge of the arena. Sylph stood in front of her, looking across the arena at her opponents.
“We are ready when you are,” James called to the other side of the arena. Lancelot and Percival were arranged in a line in front of James. With Lancelot a short ways forward and Percival floating directly in front of James.
Amanda’s Magnezone floated next to Sylph, opposite where Percival would have been in a standard deployment. While the matchup would not be ideal for it, Amanda still wished to test the interactions of the Magnezone’s Steel moves with the other Pokémon, even though they were both resistant. Amanda herself was standing on the sidelines with all the non-participating Pokémon, tapping a few last-minute notes into her Xtransceiver. The Plasma agent nodded to herself in satisfaction before setting the device aside and taking her place beside Isa. “Are we prepared to begin?”
Isabella and Sylph both nodded, taking simultaneous deep breaths. Sylph focused on Lancelot. Neither of Executive Arthur’s Pokémon were ideal match-ups for her predominantly Psychic and Fairy type movepool, but they weren’t here to test her moves’ interactions, so it didn’t matter much. She would be disappointed to lose this battle, surely, but it wouldn’t be an important defeat outside of what it told her about her new evolutionary form.
And it now occurred to her that when she’d battled Amanda’s Magnezone, she hadn’t yet achieved Mega Evolution, which meant…
“Sylph, start off with a Psychic attack against the Scizor!” Right, the battle. Sylph focused, the feeling of psychic energy building almost making her want to cry. She released it with a shout, a burst of pure mental power blasting across the field.
Lancelot did not move to dodge. James and Percival needed a moment to prepare. Instead, he planted himself firmly into the ground and held his gauntlets in front of him. The blast struck but his Steel exoskeleton held firm as he Roosted off the damage. In the moment that the blast came at Lancelot, James whispered something to Percival and embraced him. The Chandelure burst into flames as his form changed. The spider-like Mega form appeared in Percival’s place once again. When the transformation had settled, Percival lifted a leg and fired a Shadow Ball at Sylph. Executive Arthur wasn’t messing about, it seemed. Sylph side-stepped, and winced as the very edge of the Shadow Ball brushed past her side. In terms of damage, it was a grazing blow, but what it meant weighed more heavily. Her opponent had just performed the phenomenon known as Mega Evolution, before even the second attack had been made in the battle.
If Xander were here, it wouldn’t have been a problem. They would have synchronized, then she would have done much the same as Percival had. As it stood, however, Isa had never had a partner undergo the transformation. Would she be able to tap into the hidden well of emotion and power that seemed to drive the advanced form?
Isa, for her part, wasted no time in issuing her next orders. “Let’s play the defensive game, here, Sylph. Dodge what you can. Teleport when necessary. If you see a solid opening, take it, but otherwise focus on evasion. If you’re not sure of a chink in the armor, then don’t try.”
Sylph nodded. It… wasn’t the strategy Xander would have called for as she faced down two Pokémon who she held a type disadvantage against, but it was similar. Evade, take as little damage as possible. Xander would have called for her to capitalize on any weaknesses she saw, to attack with enough force that even a Scizor would have trouble withstanding it, Roost or no. She set herself into a stance that would allow her to easily step or jump to the side, and she focused energy around her for quick teleportation. She reached out mentally, mind brushing against Isa’s, and the Technician let her in.
The two took deep breaths, waiting for the next move.
Amanda, for her part, had not remained idle. She and her Magnezone both had focused their attention, effortlessly slipping into their own mental connection as their eyes glowed jointly with psychic power. Without words, the two raised a Light Screen between their allies and their opponents, maintaining their defensive barrier even as they prepared their next move, a Flash Cannon aimed at the offending Chandelure. Amanda raised her arms upwards, her Magnezone rising in unison with the gesture, and pointed sharply forward, unleashing the Steel-type energy beam at Percival from a high angle designed to restrict the Ghost- and Fire-Type’s vision of Sylph even if it missed.
Percival’s new legs were not just for show. His resemblance to a jumping spider reflected the leap he made. The fact in his normal state he could float certainly had nothing to do with it. He jumped over the Steel type attack, with James leaping backwards to evade becoming collateral damage.
“Percival, use Shadow Ball on Sylph,” James said. It was time for Percival to buy time the way Lancelot had for him.
The Chandelure fired the Shadow Ball at Sylph. It would be weakened by Light Screen even if it hit, but this was not about doing damage. Lancelot span for a moment, his dance creating a sword that he grasped. It wasn’t the largest sword he had ever made, but flexibility would be key here. With the sword made, he waited to see how Sylph would avoid the attack, looking for any visual cue to tell where she would teleport. He would have to be able to figure this out, if he wanted to beat her.
Rather than teleport, Sylph spun nimbly aside, the attack missing by a matter of feet. Seeing that Percival had taken the lead position across from her, she brought her hands up as Isa ordered, “Use Psychic!” Once more, the blast of mental energy, strong enough to faintly color the air it traveled through, shot across the field towards her opponent.
Isa was breathing evenly as she felt Sylph’s mind interacting with hers. It wasn’t a completely foreign feeling; Simone didn’t have Telepathy as her ability, but even non-telepathic Psychic Pokémon could share thoughts and emotions with people, and Isa had always had a knack for reading emotions.
It was no surprise, then, when she and Sylph fell into a similar mindset and began communicating silent plans back and forth.
Amanda and her Magnezone took in the launch of the Chandelure with a frown. It was unfortunate that the Ghost-type had largely retained its abilities for free movement; it was an advantage she herself usually enjoyed over her opponents, and one that her ally would have difficulty dealing with. “Fontaine,” she said, maneuvering her Magnezone to a position just short of parallel with Percival. She hoped the two would pick up on her stratagem and avail themselves of her assistance, but given the Executive’s prowess she could not risk verbalizing her suggestion. They took the opportunity to Lock On to the evasive Pokémon, at least ensuring that they could acquire some data even if the battle turned against them.
“Right!” Isabella and Sylph both said. Sylph teleported, landing nimbly atop the Magnezone and releasing another burst of Psychic energy at the Chandelure. Around her, white energy swirled faintly, nothing close to what she and Xander had achieved in Synchronization, but indicative of a similar, if lesser, state.
When Sylph landed atop Magnezone, James’s eyes briefly looked towards the ground beneath them.
“Intercept, Lancelot!” he yelled before his eyes raised to meet the combatants. “Percival, move closer and fire a Shadow Ball at Sylph’s feet!”
Lancelot spread his wings and jumped in front of the floating Chandelure. He adopted a defensive position as best he could. But even though the sword he wielded was able to blunt some of the attack, without the ground he couldn’t brace for the attack. He was knocked back a fair distance, and had to course correct to prevent falling to the ground. Percival was able to advance and fired another Shadow Ball at Sylph. The angle was chosen so that if Sylph teleported off of Magnezone, the Magnezone would still be in the path of attack.
There. There, in the back of their mind, was the niggle of danger that had triggered their instincts on One Island -- and again in the training battle against Sylph and Astraea. It was once again diminished, but now that they had sensed it, traced it to its source, they would no longer need to activate the ability reactively. It was time to go on the assault.
Amanda’s Magnezone began to gather energy in its magnets even as it glowed with a rainbow light. The now-familiar technicolor shell formed and burst, and the newly-transformed Steel-type’s cores split away from it even as they continued charging electrical energy. “As one!” Amanda called, her and her Magnezone’s eyes shining brightly as they gathered Amanda’s psychic power…
“Percival, prepare to show your full abilities,” James said, tightening his gaze at the Magnezone.
James was not overly familiar with Amanda’s Magnezone. He wasn’t sure of its ability, but on the off chance it was Sturdy, he had to make sure that it was no longer a factor. There was zero chance the Shadow Ball was going to miss at this point, blunted by the Light Screen it may be. But that would be enough for now.
Percival responded by flaring the fire inside is head. He was clearly preparing to use a powerful Fire type attack against the Magnezone, the great flame deepening the cage pattern shadow that fell on Lancelot as he passed underneath the Chandelure.
Sylph grinned, gathering her own energy to perform a Teleport out of harm’s way. As she landed back in front of Isa, she wagged a finger at James and his team. “I did warn you that I am not so easy to hit!”
In the middle of Sylph’s sentence, Lancelot rushed at Sylph, landing on the ground into a running motion. He was intent on punching her before she could finish the thought.
The Shadow Ball slammed into the Magnezone, only for the massive Steel-type to suddenly vanish afterward. Though it had teleported in unison with its passenger, the two appeared in completely separate locations -- and its auxiliary cores had vanished as well. The moment the three parts reappeared, they all continued charging their Locked-On Zap Cannon, the trio of angles ensuring that even an interception would not prevent the paralysis-inducing lightning lance from landing a hit on the evasive Ghost.
Sylph saw Lancelot incoming, knew there was no time for another Teleport. As the Scizor’s claw came up, she began to side-step…
Too late. The attack hit, and Sylph staggered back from the force of it. She clutched at her side where the blow had struck, gasping for breath. Behind her, Isa winced. Sylph’s eyes narrowed. That had hurt more than it would have before, she was sure. Very well, then. The gloves need to come off. She had a wealth of tricks that didn’t come out in the course of a normal battle, but the probes she’d made here showed that James’ team could take it.
Isa frowned at the shift in Sylph’s mentality. Something more intense than she had thought the Gardevoir capable of, something almost dark. She’d roll with it. Her left hand cast out as Sylph raised her left arm. “Psychic!” she called. Sylph built the energy at the truncated end of her left arm and fired it in a burst. Against Aria back on One Island, the psychic energy from the remains of her arm had furrowed the ground, torn chunks out of dirt and grass, even cut some trees at the edge of the field. This burst was about half as powerful as that. She didn’t wish to kill Lancelot, after all, and it was best to conserve her strength regardless.
Still, it would hurt.
