Username: Parugi
Name: Vertrag
Faction: Hojohsin League
Species: Jirachi/AI
Ability: Serene Grace
Moves: Wish, Helping Hand, Gravity, Lucky Chant, Safeguard, Protect
Facility Powers:
- Base concealment - The entrance to Vertrag is magically hidden no matter where it appears on the surface, requiring authorized access to find.
- Full base teleportation - Every few days, Vertrag can teleport his containment facility to a new location
- Manifestation within base - Vertrag's avatar can materialize at will within the base.
- Telepathy - Vertrag can telepathically communicate with individuals within the base.
- Ranged scanning - Vertrag can scan for specified items and people over long distances.
- Status tracking - Vertrag can maintain records of an individual's condition (health, whether they are alive, etc.) after scanning them, even from a distance. In the case of the Nine Children, portraits in Ford's chambers indicate whether they are alive or dead.
- Analysis - Vertrag can scan and analyze objects to gain a better understanding of their structure and uses.
- Product generation - Vertrag can summon objects and materials as needed, although he cannot create an item without knowledge of how to make it or that requires non-easily obtainable material requirements (such as Power Suits).
- Full base configuration - Vertrag can change the configuration of the facility at will, adding/removing rooms as needed.
- Base access/restriction - Vertrag can open or lock access to the facility as needed, although removing access requires authorization from Ford (or whoever is currently designated as the primary operator in his place).
Appearance: Vertrag does not possess a true physical form anymore, unless one counts the base itself as its form. The avatar that Vertrag uses for communication appears as a spectral Jirachi, composed of a holographic wire frame.
Personality: In some ways, Vertrag is the perfect picture of what would be considered a Smart AI--it is polite, straightforward, and logical, approaching every situation with an even head and a desire to achieve the most efficient results. Vertrag highly values knowledge and agreed to work with Ford in the pursuit of it, with Ford's other goals serving as side-concerns for the Jirachi. Nevertheless, Ford's many goals and projects help to provide Vertrag with a sense of purpose, and because of this the Jirachi is completely content with its current situation of being stuck within the Vertrag facility. Although it does not display much emotion and largely appears as a neutral party, its strong loyalty to Ford can cause it to become somewhat snippy and insulting toward individuals that view him negatively; Vertrag specifically "avoided" calling Emmerich Coleman's opinion of Ford's imprisonment garbage despite clearly referring to it as such. Regardless, Vertrag is always happy to be of assistance and feels no need to hold animosity toward anyone, regardless of what they might have personally done to insult it or Ford.
Background: Little is known about Vertrag's history. Once, it was a normal Jirachi; at some point it neared death due to unknown circumstances, at which point it met John Ford. The two reached an agreement, and Ford utilized his magic along with the Jirachi's wish-granting powers to transform the Jirachi into Ford's extra-dimensional headquarters. There, it became the main operator for the place, and took upon the name Vertrag.
Vertrag was operational for all of Ford's operations following his departure from the Signs, and as such was aware of all of Ford's recruitment efforts for his ritual, although the details disclosed about Vertrag's existence to each Child varied, with few outside of the first Three Children even being aware of it. Despite Vertrag's power, it was not able to detect anything specifically amiss about Thomas Warren or Tyler McKinley, which would later prove disastrous for Ford's operations.
On July 30th, 2017, after departing from the base in order to begin the ritual, Ford ordered Vertrag to move the facility to Mt. Silver, where it remained for nearly two weeks as the outside world fell victim to McKinley's sabotage and Missing Zero's arrival. When Kyle Eston, Ryan Sanders, Emmerich Coleman, Chloe Hikari, Sixth Child Sonja Baron and Seventh Child Ray Hakuda arrived to locate the Grimoire on behalf of Ford, Vertrag observed their progress through the base, but refrained from making contact. It was only after the arrival of Gluttony and Third Child Quincy Adams, now transformed into an Instance, that Vertrag intervened, first cloaking Emmerich from their detection and then more directly involving itself in the battle the erupted in the facility's combat arena. The buffs provided by Vertrag proved vital in buying time for the team to achieve multiple Mega Evolutions, at which point they managed to drive away the threat. Vertrag then introduced itself and revealed its purpose and connection to Ford.
After teleporting the facility to Kalos on the team's request, Vertrag assisted further by scanning for the locations of the Signs Manors outside of Laverre City. It also synthesized an antidote to Signs leader Quentin Dallas's Fear toxin, which Emmerich helped distribute to the damaged Dendemille Town. Vertrag served along with Sonja Baron as mission control during the Team Flare crisis that followed, and later provided the team with the location of Pale Horse Manor, where they were able to meet the Signs leader Clue and establish an agreement with her.
Sometime later, Vertrag relocated to Four Island, with usage remaining between the members of the Kalos team, especially Sonja. After the Shadow Suit attacks on the Children and on Ford, Vertrag was delighted by Ford's return to base, and began scanning and messaging protocols in order to ensure the safety of the unaccounted for Children--Ray, Ellen Burks, and Levi Alaric, the lattermost of whom had suffered an accidental teleportation to Kalos with Will Moreno and Kyle Eston in the middle of their Shadow Suit attack.
