Name: Ilios
--Nickname: Nine (Ancient Darkrai title)
Faction: Hojohsin League
Species: Darkrai
Ability: Bad Dreams
Moves: Dark Void, Roar of Time, Spacial Rend, Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, Ice Beam.
Appearance: Nine is a large Darkrai, visually identical to others of his species outside of his bright green eyes.
Personality: A word to describe Ilios would be "brooding," although it is not an unjustified state of mind for him. As one of the Ancient Darkrai, Ilios was directly involved in numerous incidents that went against Arceus and the rest of the world, throwing the balance of life and death into question at various intervals; it is only his deep regret for these actions that allowed him to escape the same imprisonment inflicted upon his brethren, at the cost of his powers over Space and Time. Especially nowadays, with Arceus nowhere in sight, Ilios feels that the Creation Pokémon might have been more inclined to prevent the world's suffering had it not been for his and his siblings' betrayal of its trust.
Although he does seek to redeem himself to the world--a goal that he feels he will never accomplish--Ilios's judgment has been notably questionable at various points, such as his allying with Ford and agreeing to allow the man to unlock those same abilities that were taken away from him. Ilios rationalizes this discrepancy by telling himself that what Ford is fighting for is the peace and safety of the world despite the cruel actions he takes to do so, which is not technically false. Ilios was, however, one of the few to peg McKinley was trouble from the start, although by the time he met the Fourth Child it was too late to do anything without disrupting Ford's plans. Ultimately, Ilios has a caring heart and a desire to do right by the world, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make up for his and his allies' past mistakes, even at the cost of his own life.
Background: Long, long ago, Ilios was created by Arceus and granted limited power over Space and Time, as a means to help protect the balance of both. He was joined by nine brothers and sisters granted the same powers and responsibilities, led by Sombra, their oldest sibling. At some point, Sombra decided to take power for himself, and convinced his siblings to assist him in the endeavor, thus initiating a power struggle of gargantuan magnitude that brought the world to its knees. Ultimately, the Ten Ancient Darkrai were defeated and sealed away, with Ilios stripped of his power and left to roam freely as a testament to his ultimate remorse and loyalty to Arceus and the Creation Trio. For the next thousands of years, Ilios wandered, doing what he could to repent but ultimately failing in stopping the now-damaged world from plunging again and again into war and destruction, eventually coming to blame himself for Arceus's seeming indifference to the cycle.
Shortly before the beginning of the Rocket-Liberty War, Ilios became acquainted with John Ford, who shared with the Darkrai some insight into the coming devastation. Ilios agreed with join with Ford, reluctantly allowing the man to unlock his powers over Space and Time, and became an active agent within his fold. As a companion of Ford's, Ilios quickly came around to his vision of what needed to be done to stave off a worse disaster, and thus assisted Ford in several operations against Team Rocket and Team Liberty. He was centrally involved in Ford's direct attack on Team Liberty, serving to banish Blackskull to a side-dimension after he and Goldhawk attempted to repel the Shadowed Man.
As the Ancient Darkrai were released from their prisons and began to cover the regions in darkness, Ilios split off from Ford to fight against them. He intervened in a battle against the Hojohsin League's new Mewtwo, enraged at the Psychic-Type's flagrant use of its power to tear holes in the dimensional fabric. As Ilios followed the Ancients' conquest, he became aware of strange reactions from some of the people that they attacked, who appeared to become wholly corrupted rather than simply forced into a comatose state. Disturbed, Ilios spirited these seven trainers away to a secret hiding place to safeguard and eventually cure them. On one occasion when he went to check on them, Ilios was followed by Fourth Child Tyler McKinley, who expressed an unusual interest in them; Ilios, already distrustful of him, threatened the Fourth and forced him to leave. Ilios also had an encounter with Adam Sombra, briefly battling against the man, who egged him on and reminded him of the true Sombra's eternal nature.
When the released Ancients congregated at the Sinjoh Ruins to release Sombra, Ilios followed. Convinced now that the only way to be rid of Sombra was to eliminate him in his entirety, Ilios provided the final key attack to unleash the Tenth Darkrai, allowing the current Heroes of Creation to finally engage him in battle. As the other Darkrai battled an assembly of trainers who had come to assist the Heroes, Ilios assisted where he could, eventually managing to convince Daseos (Five) to switch sides. After a grueling battle, wherein the Tenth absorbed most of the other Ancients, Sombra was finally defeated, and several of the other Ancients killed along with him, leaving only Ilios, Daseos, and the freed Seven and Three--as well as Gaigan (Six), who had slipped away in the chaos.
After the Ancients were defeated, Ilios sensed a change in the seven trainers he had found, and went to investigate. To his alarm, all of them had awoken--not only from their sleep, but also to their true natures as Sins, parasites planted into the world by Missing Zero. Together, they overwhelmed the weakened Ancient and forced him under their control, removing him from the public eye for several months. During this time, Ilios struggled to free himself, only managing to get a broken message to First Child James Pierce, which could not be deciphered. Under the orders of Tyler McKinley, secretly a pawn of Missing Zero as well, Ilios was sent to attack the homes of the Shadow Admins. In the process of attacking the Alaric Manor, Eileen Alaric and Jackson Sang were put into comas, although Ilios was fended off by Joker's team when he attempted to do the same to her family. Ilios was later summoned by McKinley in the Egg on July 31st, 2017, where he was forced to possess John Ford and set his team against the coalition that had come to stop them. When the ritual had completed, Ford was then forced to activate his magic, stripping the Pokémon of the world of their power just as Missing Zero broke through. Luckily, this had the side-effect of breaking Ilios and Ford free, and the Darkrai then assisted him in escaping.
