Appearance: Pierce is a man of average height, standing at 5'8". He has pale skin and short, dark brown hair, as well as dark red eyes. His general outfit consists of his Hojohsin uniform. Like all of the Children's outfits, his consists of black and brown clothing, in this case brown pants, black shoes, and a black peacoat with dark red buttons matching his eyes. He also wears gloves of the same color.
Personality: Of all of Ford's followers, James Pierce is perhaps the most pleasant and amicable, even if only in a professional sense. This outward pleasantness belies a confident and somewhat smug personality that tends to look down on others for their shortcomings while ignoring his own. He is very careful with his choice of words and is not above using flattery to sway others to his point of view. These traits and his general aura lend themselves greatly to his political abilities, which he used expertly while in control of Hoenn, even managing to leverage his position to twist the region's police force into targeting their former allies in Team Liberty. None of these actions trouble Pierce, as he ultimately sees himself as an agent of the greater good.
Despite his cruel actions, Pierce does have a softer side to him. He recognizes the innocence of children like Ellen and Levi and did what he could to avoid exposing them to any horrors he would personally inflict on others. He also cares deeply for his fellow Children as a whole, as well as his brother Piers, to the point where he specifically requested that Ford keep his twin uninvolved in any danger that would arise from Hojohsin's actions. Ford himself is something of a father-figure to Pierce, someone he was willing to lay down his life for in order to protect him. This ultimately led Pierce to his end, as he attempted to protect Ford from McKinley only for the Fourth Child to throw him into Missing Zero's maw.
Background: Paris Ebner was born in Unova, the twin brother of Piers Ebner. Growing up, Paris was always favored by their parents, who viewed him as more talented than his brother in almost every way. While Paris benefited greatly from this favoritism, it bred within him a resentment toward his family, particularly since it gradually eroded his once-strong bond with his brother. Despite his attempts to assuage the damage, Paris knew that Piers resented his brother's position in the family, and this hurt him greatly, to the point where he sought every possibility he could find to leave his family behind. After graduating high school early along with his brother, Paris found his chance: Through John Ford.
Shortly after beginning to attend Heaven's Cloud University in Unova, Paris was approached by John Ford to participate in his ritual to prepare for Missing Zero's arrival. While Ford expressed interest in recruiting his brother as well, Paris requested that they leave Piers out of the situation, believing that it would be best to vanish from his family's life and allow Piers to receive the love, praise, and affection that their parents had long denied him. Ford agreed and took Paris under his wing as the First Child, giving him the new name of James Pierce. Secretly, Pierce would attempt to remain in contact with his brother, but stopped reaching out when it became clear that Piers had no interest in responding to any letters.
Pierce assisted in further recruitments into Ford's ritual, soon becoming acquainted with the Second Child Madison Hayes and Third Child Quincy Adams. The four became something of a family that would later on change the face of the world. Pierce's missions under Ford often involved political intrigue and subterfuge, manipulating events for Hojohsin's benefit. Years after the start of the Liberty-Rocket War, Pierce was sent to meet with Team Energon on Ford's behalf, successfully convincing them to lend their forces to Ford's efforts under the promise of defeating Teams Liberty and Rocket. When Shadow Admin Ace was removed from power in Hoenn soon after, and Team Rocket's presence there largely removed, Pierce was selected by Ford to move in and assume power within the region, which the First Child succeeded in doing.
As President of Hoenn, Pierce quickly utilized the region's resources for Hojohsin's benefit. Ford's private company, Déoza, assumed operations in Sootopolis and began acting from there. Hoenn quickly began a series of targeted policies that allowed for the capture of numerous Rocket and Liberty Agents, many of whom were moved into Hojohsin custody. At one point, James Arthur attempted to break into Pierce's office in Hoenn, though found himself overwhelmed by Pierce's power and was ousted. From there, Pierce was free to continue his work in the region, a task that became more complicated when the Ancient Darkrai arrived and began spreading darkness across the region. Pierce managed to avoid being affected, though the failure to effectively fight back did erode his public trust.
Months after the defeat of the Darkrai, and well after Teams Liberty and Rocket announced their ceasefire, Pierce came under fire for his refusal to back down from his anti-Liberty and -Rocket policies, drawing international suspicion against him. As they neared the end date for Ford's plan, this did little to bother him. At some point in the final month, Pierce met with the Executives of Team Energon, whose leader, Michael Travis, had been killed only an hour or so earlier by Adams in a joint venture to destroy Team Magma. They were shortly joined by Fourth Child Tyler McKinley, Adams, and Eighth Child Levi Alaric, who had just teleported from Havoc. The executives were suspicious of Pierce's claim, though he was undeterred, and after a tense moment, he brought them under his control through McKinley's Xatu. Energon's assets were dissolved and merged with Déoza as a result of this meeting.
Later, a public forum was held against Pierce by Teams Liberty and Rocket, in an attempt to publicly make him answer for his actions during the ceasefire and remove him from power. This involved attempting to prove his connection with Ford. Pierce did not back down nor acknowledge any wrongdoing, instead attempting to turn the public against the two teams by claiming that they were responsible for the massive devastation in Unova. At the last moment, James Arthur appeared on the floor with Piers Ebner in tow, who dismantled Pierce's defenses by proving that he had been operating in Hoenn under a false identity. Pierce was immediately ousted and arrested, though before he could be brought to trial, he was secured by McKinley and brought back to base.
On July 31st, 2017, Pierce finally took part in Ford's ritual to remove conflict from the world in a desperate attempt to divert Missing Zero's attention elsewhere. Pierce's memory chamber was the first to be discovered by the coalition of trainers that had arrived to stop Ford; here, his consciousness battled against the combined forces of James Arthur, Claus Diamond, and Jared Winters, who eventually managed to defeat his team. The coalition soon found Pierce along with the other Children and Ford in the final chamber, where Ford revealed the truth of his plan. As the others attempted to make sense of Ford's actions, Pierce and Ford came to the realization that one of their own had been acting behind their backs, at which point McKinley revealed his hand. In the ensuing battle, wherein Ford was possessed and Missing Zero was released on the world, Pierce attempted to save Ford from McKinley's monstrous form. Just as he began to make a request of Ford--to pass along a message to his brother--McKinley blasted Pierce with a gust of wind, throwing him into Missing Zero's body, where he was immediately devoured.
